January’s Empties Part 1 – Skincare and Make-Up

C: hi guys! We have been taking a little break from blogging recently but I can’t get out of the habit of collecting my empties to share with you all. There’s a definite sense of achievement in using up so much of my stash! I did super well in Jan so I’m splitting it into two posts and will be sharing my body care items another day!

Make-Up and Nail Stuff

Seche Vite Top Coat- this is my holy grail nail polish top coat. It makes my mani last ages and gives it a lovely glossy finish, only problem with it is the last bit always goes gloopy and horrid.

Repurchase? Yes.

Essie Nail polish in silver glitter-Iv had this so long the name has rubbed off! I loved this as it gave good coverage for a glitter polish and lasted well.

Repurchase? Yes if I can find the same shade again. I won’t be buying it again any time soon though as I have loads of silver polishes to use up.

Benefit Porefessional Primer – another blogger favourite that I actually really liked. I went off it for a while but used this sample up whilst away with family and re fell in love with it. I had forgotten how great it is! I find other cheaper primers last the same over time but nothing compares to how well make up applies over this.

Repurchase? Yes!

Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream – I have dedicated a whole post to this as I really love it and it’s a CC cream that’s actually pale enough for me! This is perfect for those days where you aren’t wearing much make up but still want a flawless base.

Repurchase? Definitely.

ELF Eyebrow Kit – I loved this and used it every day for about a year! However since using it up and trying other products I realise it probably isn’t as amazing as I first thought. In comparison to others it is a little cakey and the applicator provided is awful!

Repurchase? No.

Soap & Glory Kick Ass Powder- another product I loved! This was perfect at setting foundation and keeping shine at bay! It also lasted way longer than most other powders Iv tried.

Repurchase? Hella yeah!

Skincare

Garnier Micellar Water- won’t go on about this as everyone in the world knows about it. Amazing.

Repurchase? Definitely

Clinique Moisture Surge – I got my usual Clinique moisturiser for Christmas but I have been trying to use up the many samples I have hanging about and I’m so glad I did as I love this! It’s perfect for winter when your skin needs extra attention but would be too heavy for me in summer I think.

Repurchase? Definitely next autumn.

The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter- I am so proud of myself for using this up as it was never ending! Definite value for money there! This was great at removing make up but did eventually end up making my eyes pretty sore, I’m not sure why!

Repurchase? No.

Green people Hydrating Firming Serum – didn’t like this, it was good at moisturising but made my skin feel sticky some how? I also like to think I don’t need my skin firming so just not the product for me!

Repurchase? No.

Herbal Essences Hydrating Shampoo and conditioner- not skincare but had to add them in somewhere! I got these for my baba hospital bag but I’m gross and didn’t use them so decided to finally use them up to make room in my very crowded bathroom. Iv used this brand before but this time they made my hair look greasy and gave me a super itchy scalp so obviously don’t agree with me any more!

Repurchase? No.

So there we have the first part of my empties! Let me know if you agree with my mini reviews! #twolittleowls

Couch potato to 5k!

C: hi guys! I know everyone started off so well with their New Years resolutions of getting fit… But by now a lot of people are loosing motivation and giving up! So I thought I would share with you the programme I have been using: change for life’s couch potato to 5k!

I used to do quite a lot of running, but since having a baby/being pregnant couch potato is a much better description of my fitness level! I started this a few weeks ago so I feel like I can finally talk about my progress a little and the app itself.

Firstly the app is free, you just have to sign up to unlock all the weeks. It starts off really easy the first week (saying that I was still dying slightly due to lack of appropriate footwear and sleep) by doing a 5 minute warm up walk and then alternating between a minute of running and 90 seconds of brisk walking before a final 5 minute cool down walk. The app tells you when to run/walk so you don’t need to time yourself and it’s really motivating to keep going.

Obviously each week (you run 3 times a week) it gets slightly more difficult until you are running for 30 minutes in 9 weeks! I can’t quite imagine that yet but ya know… Il keep you updated!

As for my fitness I’m definitely improving and I love having the app as motivation! The only thing I wish it had was a distance measurement so it could tell you how far you have gone/calories burned etc but you can easily run an extra app for that info!

So do any of you guys fancy giving it a go?! I shall do another update post when I’m half way through/done if you would like?? But currently I’m loving it! 30 minutes listening to music and not changing nappies? Seems good to me! #twolittleowls

13 Things no one ever told you about having a baby.

C: so you are super preggo and everyone in the world wants to tell you horror stories about how horrendous childbirth is (it isn’t, I can happily write you a nice post all about it if you fancy) but what about all the other things that no one thinks to tell you? Trust me, theres plenty.

1.Goodbye Dignity.
I used to be quite private, you know lady garden viewings for boyfriend in the dark only and all. After 11 hours of labour I literally couldn’t give a shit. I had a midwife in there, a trainee midwife and a trainee doctor all having a cheeky look. If you are worried you will care? You won’t. All you want is the baby out.

2. That initial baby bond?

This is possibly going to be a controversial one. Don’t bother spamming me with hate comments, I am putting this in incase anyone else felt the same and felt guilty about it. So I gave birth and they put a baby on me. I remember staring at her like DID THAT JUST COME OUT OF MY BODY?! Then she pooed on me and I went to surgery for two hours without her (possibly the reason behind the delayed bonding experience) and I thought, yeah nice baby. Liked her about as much as I would if a family member had a baby, then by about three weeks later I would have pushed L in front of a bus if it meant she was okay… and L used to be my fav (don’t tell him he’s not now, he gets funny about it). I have done some research (well, asked people who also had babies) and this seems to be quite common. So if this is you don’t feel guilty about it, give it time and talk to your midwife about it

3. Breastfeeding sucks.

Literally. For something that is meant to be natural it is quite possibly the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. After 3 days I had to give up and bottle feed as my milk didn’t come in and baba was jaundiced and dehydrated. It took 3 weeks for the scabs to disappear.

4. The first night at home will be the worst night of your life.

You are super excited to leave hospital (the food really is bad, I recommend taking ketchup to disguise all food) and you think life will be perfect at home with your new family… THEN YOUR BABY TURNS INTO THE DEVIL. She is no longer tired from the labour, all noises are different from the hospital and she screams the whole night and makes you think you will be a terrible parent and you should probably return her to someone who knows what they are doing. I told my midwife and she laughed and said “first nights at home should come with a health warning” so here you have your warning. Expect the worst and then the next morning you will have your perfect beautiful baba back.

5. Everyone in the world comes to visit and you hate them.

Literally everyone and their wife wants to come visit, squeeze your baby, drink your tea and eat your biscuits that you stole from the hospital. You go from loving everyone telling you how pretty your baby is to wanting to stab them in the face until they leave. Perfectly normal but try and refrain from the stabbing, babies aren’t allowed in prisons.

6. You will cry all the live long day.

You will cry cos your baby’s daddy is being nice to you, at the sad dog advert on the telly, or cos someone offered you a crisp (they were even my own crisps but ya know, such a nice gesture). You will even start crying about how much you have been crying. Don’t worry it all stops after a couple of weeks and you can go back to your normal sassy self.

7. You learn who your real friends are.

The shit ones are the ones that are super excited at the start, want you to text them when you are in labour, come visit all the time the first few weeks (when you don’t actually want visitors) and then send you weird messages about how they miss you and you never get to see them anymore. Not that you are busy with a baby or anything. Ditch the bitches and stick with the ones that bring you food and lol at your weird baby photos and come make your hair look nice for you.

8. Google becomes your best friend and your worst enemy.

You find yourself googling things like “will my baby die from not burping” and endlessly searching for photos of “normal” baby poo. As useful as the internet can be when you actually need to know something, calm down the googling. No babies ever died of not burping.

9. Baby poo will take over your life.

You will become obsessed. Why hasn’t my baby pooed? Is she pooing too much? Is that shit I can smell? I must stop wearing this jumper, its the same colour as baby poo. I will never eat a korma again, all things like that. You will also spend a large amount of your life sniffing your babies bum, don’t worry though, babies only poo when you are ready to go out so you might as well just check then.

10. Labour pains? What about aftershock pains?

Maybe its inappropriate to compare labour to an earthquake, maybe it isn’t. What I do know is that no one warned me about the pains you have afterwards. Literally feels like being beaten up with a cricket bat. Not that I’ve ever played cricket or been hit with a bat but you know, thats how I imagine it feels like. Take lots of baths whilst your partner is off work, have paracetamol and make people do the washing up and stuff for you so you can rest with baba. Don’t try and take the dog for a walk cos thats just stupid and makes it worse.

11. Having a baby is pretty lonely.

Everyone wants to come and visit you the first few weeks, then slowly it stops and your partner goes back to work. Suddenly you are left at home on your own with your beautiful baby and when you finally would like visitors they aren’t interested. Go out. Go visit friends who have children, go annoy your parents/parents in law. Don’t sit at home drinking too much coffee and thinking about how you still look preggo and maybe theres actually another baby in there (there isn’t, it will go by about 10/12 weeks).

12. Health Visitors come and see you and ask weird questions.

“do you think you are depressed?” “Would you say you cry more than 7 times a day?” “Does your partner beat you up” “any history of drug or alcohol abuse?”… don’t answer that one with “I think she’s a bit young for that, she’s only 4 weeks old” Cos they don’t find it funny. In my experience health visitors ask their weird questions and then answer yours with strange things about how every baby is different and give no real advice. Answer them without the jokes (I am probably on some weird bad mother alert list now) and then ask your mother or doctor if your health visitors are useless.

13. Enjoy your tiny baba whilst they are teeny.

I had a baby three months ago and I’m already jealous of other peoples tiny babies. Seriously, suddenly she is massive and I cried and told L she might as well just be 18 and move out now. Maybe dramatic, maybe not. But in all seriousness enjoy those tiny baby cuddles and don’t wish them away cos by the time they are 3 months old they hate being cuddled and just ignore you whilst you try and play with them because they want to watch tv and eat their own feet.

so there we have it, 13 things no one ever tells you about having a baby! Has anyone else had similar experiences? Or do you have something you want to add to the list?! Let me know! #twolittleowls

What I got for Christmas! P

C: Hi guys and happy new year! I thought as my first post that Iv written in 2016 I would share with you some of the amazing gifts I was lucky enough to get for Christmas. This is in no way a brag post, as I know I was super lucky, but I love reading these on other blogs so thought I would share mine too!

First up my parents in law got me this AMAZING Olivia Burton watch. I love it! I don’t often wear a lot of jewellery cos I’m lazy and forget to put it on but I love this and have worn it every day! I have wanted one of these bad boys for ages and I’m so excited I finally have one!

I also got the UD smoky palette from my parents! This is like my new pride and joy. I haven’t even used it yet cos it’s too perfect and I want it to last forever and I’m weird about opening new things and save them for a special occasion!

Annie also got my a Stila lip glaze in black berry…which I also haven’t opened cos I’m weird. The mother in law also got me my favourite Benefit they’re real mascara in a fun limited sparkly edition and my aunties got me this seventeen mini lipgloss set!

The Clinique moisturiser is a standard present from my parentals, I get it every year as I love it so much but maternity pay and £30 moisturisers don’t really mix! Annie also got me the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream cos I have wanted to try it for forever and Santa got me these Real Techniques Starter Eye Set. I have actually used these (you should all be proud) and the eyebrow brush is my new favourite thing!

I haven’t included all my presents as I got some lovely personalised gifts from my beautiful daughter that I don’t want to share with all, as well as lots of vouchers, pjs, socks and the usual lovely Christmas presents!

Thank you to everyone who treated me and ivy! What did you guys get for Christmas? Link me to any of your lovely posts! And also let me know if anyone else is weird and hates opening new things  (Annie opens everything straight away!) #twolittleowls

December 2015 Empties Part Two: Body Skincare, Shower Stuff and Hair Care!

C: Welcome to my second empties of the month! You can see my first empties post here if you are interested in the facial skincare and make up I have been using up! So lets get too it!

Body Skincare!

IMG_0918

Palmers Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks – after having a baby I have gone through lots of these types of products and this is by far my favourite. It moisturises and stops stretched skin from itching, smells good and actually seems to make a difference! I love it!

Repurchase? Yes if I ever decide being pregnant is a good idea again.

Nivea In Shower Body Moisturiser – I bought this ages ago and finally used it up now I have minimum time available for showering and moisturising! This really is a great idea and works well. I wouldn’t say it moisturises as well as a proper moisturiser, but it certainly works well enough for those days when you are super in a rush!

Repurchase? I would, but they do a cocoa butter version that I would like to try next.

Bio Oil – I know this is loads of peoples HG product… but tbh I think its pretty shit. soz. For the money it really seems to do nothing, it feels horrid and it doesn’t even smell nice. Nah mate.

Repurchase? Nope.

Molton Brown Relaxing Yuan Zhi Body Cream – we all love a bit of Molton Brown don’t we?! This smelt good and was of the same quality we have come to expect from this brand. I only wish the sample I got in my Cohorted box was bigger!

Repurchase? probs wouldn’t spend my pennies on it, but I would happily use it again.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Butter – oh more S&G? What a surprise. Wont bang on about this cos one of these body butters pretty much feature in every empties post I write. Love it.

Repurchase? Hells yeah.

Cowshed Blissful Body Lotion – I don’t normally like body lotions as I find them a bit thin and a waste of my time, but I bloody loved this! It smells amazing and actually moisturised my skin well.

Repurchase? I actually would!

Showergels

IMG_0915

Lush Hot Toddy – I wasn’t that interested by this when I received it last year for Christmas (clearly as I have only just used it) but I loved it! Super festive and this tiny bottle lasted me about 2 weeks!

Repurchase? If it is available again this year I will definitely be picking some up!

Soap & Glory Clean On Me – I took this with me in my hospital bag when I had baba so temporarily went off the smell (bad memories and all), but decided to finish it up this month and I am glad I have fallen in love with it again. Smells great and is super moisturising!

Original Source Raspberry and Cocoa – another product that had been hanging around since last Christmas! I really liked this when I first opened it but decided to save it for the colder months as its quite a wintery smell… anyone else do that or am I just weird?!

Repurchase? Yes, its lovely!

Dove Silk Glow – I am not normally a fan of Dove stuff, but I received this as a stocking filler last Christmas (jesus I am clearly bad at stashing stuff..) and fished it out this month when I ran out of shower gels I was excited about… and I liked it! It smelt nice, was super bubbly and moisturising.

Repurchase? Probably not, as I have lots I love more but I would happily use it again if I received it.

Beauticology Caramel Fudge – another Christmas present… whoops! I didn’t like this, it smelt nice but not as strong as I was hoping it would and it just didn’t lather up. You had to use so much product to feel even slightly clean that I used this up in 4 days. Boo!

Repurchase? Nope.

Hair Stuff

IMG_0917

Batiste Dry Shampoo – won’t go on about this as everyone in the world has used this I’m sure. I don’t even like it that much? But I just panic buy it when I go shopping, as I forget to look at the others that I actually like/have a brown tint so I don’t look like an old lady.

Repurchase? Yep, even though I shouldn’t!

Bed Head Colour Goddess Leave-In Conditioner – I got my hair ombre’d when I was preggo so I have been using this to keep the colour nice… I can’t say I noticed much of a difference but It smelt nice so I kept using it! It also helped keep my hair shiny and made it easier to brush out.

Repurchase? nope, I have started an Aussie detangling spray which I prefer and is half the price!

Hip Ultra Shine Shampoo – wasn’t keen on this. It was tea tree flavoured which made me think of nit shampoo… not that I have nits I just remember my mum spraying it in my hair so I  wouldn’t get them at school! It also didn’t lather up very well so I made L finish this!

Repurchase? Nope!

So there we have it, the end of the worlds longest empties post! Have you tried any of these products? what did you think of them! #twolittleowls

December 2015’s Empties Part One : Facial Skincare and Make-Up!

C: so this month in a bid to use up lots of half used products in prep for my Christmas clear out I have used up a whopping 24 products! Because I have used so many I have split this post into two, so my body skincare, shower gels and hair care products will be discussed in my next post so I don’t bore you all too much with a super mega long post!

Facial Skincare

IMG_0914

The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner – I actually stole this from Annie as I wanted to try it and she wasn’t in love, so cheers Annie, I have now used it up if you were hoping for it back… long story short, I didn’t love this. It didn’t irritate my skin, it removed any last traces of make up… but it was just a bit sticky? Which I find weird for a toner and didn’t make my skin feel especially clean or nice.

Repurchase? No.

Lush Tea Tree Water – this is currently my HG toner. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin but is powerful enough to actually make a difference on my spots and blemishes.

Repurchase? Hella yeah

Clinique Clarifying Lotion – this is one of those products that has been basically empty for about a year I swear but never ended. I only use this about twice a week, when I feel like my skin needs a deep clean or I have been wearing a lot of make up and want to make sure it has been removed properly. If I use this more often its just too strong for my sensitive skin and causes redness/itching. But I love it for those days when I have had cray cray make up (Im thinking of you, Halloween!).

Repurchase? Yes.

Soap & Glory Fab Pore Mask – it wouldnt be one of my empty posts if it didn’t feature some S&G products would it? I enjoyed using this (don’t leave it on too long else you will have a sad face) and it made my skin feel super clean. It also lasts ages considering its quite a small pot as you really don’t need much. As for pore minimising? I didn’t notice much, but realistically I don’t think any products achieve the ever searched for pore minimising-ness. Yep, thats deffo a word.

Repurchase? If I hadn’t already got about 6 other face masks to use up then yes.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser – I reviewed this here, so check out my review if you are interested in trying this.

Repurchase? Yes, its perfect for sensitive skin

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel – another product we have previously reviewed.

Repurchase? If I hadn’t asked Santa for it then yes!

Make-Up

IMG_0916

Mac Matchmaster Foundation – this foundation is AMAZING. I love it, and its the perfect foundation if you are super pale like me as they have load’s of shades to match you too! This also lasted me a year!

Repurchase? Yes!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – another product I have previously reviewed, but this bad boy is my HG mascara! I love it! Perfect for thick, long lashes that last all day!

Repurchase? Yes!

No7 Gold Glitter Top Coat – this has alas died of old age *insert sad face. I have had this about two years though so I really can’t complain! Due to all the glitter sinking to the bottom I seem to have used up all the nail varnish without the glitter… bad times! Love it though!

Repurchase? I already have another!

Korres Eyeliner – this used to be my go-to eyeliner. It is super soft and pigmented so I used this to create a feline flick on my upper lashes when I was too lazy to use liquid eyeliner! It also lasts all day without smudging (although it smudges a little if using on your lower lash line)

Repurchase? I would if I didn’t have a large amount of eye liners to use up!

So there we have the first part of my December empties! Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know if you have tried any of these products and agree with my mini reviews! #twolittleowls

A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 21 & 22!

C: it makes me super sad I only have 3 doors left to open of my calendar… But HELLO CHRISTMAS!

Yesterday I received the extravagant volume waterproof mascara which I think is full sized. A new mascara is always a welcome addition to my stash as I always rebuy my benefit mascara so don’t normally get to try out other options as I hate buying things that might not work for me!

Then today I received the smokey eye brush! This is perfect for this time of year and for me because I love a good smokey eye! This is quite densely packed and will be amazing at applying colour and blending it out! I literally can’t wait to try this and can imagine it’s going to become a firm favourite in my collection!

What do you think of my day 21 and 22 treats?! #twolittleowls

A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 20!

C: I literally can’t believe it’s the 20th December! Where has the time gone?! I’m also sad because now I only have 4 doors of my no7 calendar left which means the end of my daily beauty treats soon!

To make up for it today I received a gold pair of eye lash curlers!!! I absolutely love that these are gold rather than silver, meaning these will be getting pride of place on my dressing table.

I don’t often curl my lashes unless it’s for something posh but I can’t wait to use these for my Christmas Day make up! #twolittleowls

A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 17 & 18!

C: ahh I had been doing so well at remembering every day!!! But alas, yesterday was just too busy and I didn’t have time… Well I did last night but I was too busy laying on the sofa drinking snowballs.

So yesterday I received the Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil in black. Now this is the third eyeliner of the advent calendar which would normally annoy me but I hadn’t tried these before and I’m absolutely loving them!

Then today I received a Stay Perfect Eye Shadow which is apparently a shade from the Moonlight Shadow Trio. It is a very pale pinky nude and looks perfect as an inner corner highlight (it’s a lot paler than I could photograph). Once again I am happy to receive this as I love the quality of no7 eye shadows!

What do you think of these advent calendar treats?! I shall try my hardest to post again tomo but you know… There’s Christmas films to be watching and chocolate that needs eating #twolittleowls

A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 17!

C: morning!

Today I received a 7ml Youthful Eye Serum. This can apparently be worn underneath eye cream for an extra little boost, which I’m sure may assist my face due to the lack of sleep that comes with a baby, however I also forget to put eye cream on nowadays and normally just stumble to bed and pass out with no concern to face creams!

I will however try and test this out, as iv never tried an eye serum before and I’m interested to see what difference it may make!

Have any of you guys tried an eye serum before? #twolittleowls
