A wishful Christmas wish list

C: you ever see something and think OH GOD IM IN LOVE, and then realise that it’s completely unnecessary so you shouldn’t ask for it for Christmas? But secretly you keep thinking about it and wish it was yours? Here is my secret Christmas wish list (in the hope L decides he wants to buy me a lot of extra presents)

David Ayling is a jewellery making genius! I follow him on Facebook and he creates such beautiful pieces, I’m always slightly jelly that I don’t own anything! This ring is my absolute fav, I showed it to L and he said maybe if he gets a bonus in Feb so fingers crossed!!! (On another note, follow DA on Facebook as he also does jewellery making evenings etc. Which are super exciting!)

We then have the Leonore Doc Martens. These are my fave brand for shoes and I already have two pairs (which never wear out so will last forever!) so I don’t NEED these… but I sure as hell would like them! Plus.. fleece lined? Who doesn’t need new winter warm boots?

Thirdly (not a word) we have the Violet Voss Ride or Die palette which is available from beauty bay. I did consider putting this on my list cos you know… just look at it. But I have so many unloved palettes waiting for my attention it seemed silly to get another! Sad face.

Finally we have a Mac Christmas collection of 12 mini lipsticks. Now really, no one needs 12 mini lipsticks but surely everyone wants them? I asked L for these too, and I won’t say what he described them as on here but I’m guessing it’s a no! Alas. I do love miniature things!

So guys, anything you are secretly wishing for for Christmas that is totally unnecessary but super beautiful?! Let me know! Xxx

Ps… obviously I don’t own any of these delights so photos are borrowed from their websites! Any problems and I will remove them for you 🙂

Review: Sleek Highlighting Palette in Precious Metals

C: now this review has been a long time coming as Annie actually bought me this for Christmas! However, I have a slight issue with new beautiful things – in that I never want to use them as then they wont be new/look so pretty. But it has finally happened… I have given in and opened it!

photo 1(26)

Now it doesn’t look that exciting from the outside packaging… then you open it up and things get super exciting!

photo 2(25)

photo 3(15)

Look how pretty it is! Now I am aware this is the sort of packaging that will look grubby very quickly, but it goes with the precious metal theme and I enjoy it a lot. It is also super sturdy so you don’t have to worry about it breaking, although the lid is maybe too easily undone to just throw in your make up bag.

photo(40)

Now I am aware these swatches are rubbish, but this is the only photo I could get in the rubbish light that showed off the colours properly. Shades from left to right are: Platinum, Royal Gold, Renaissance Gold and Antique Bronze. All of which are cream highlighters, apart from Antique Bronze which is a powder.

I had never used cream highlighters before, so I was a little nervous about trying these but they are all super creamy and easy to blend and although there is a little fall out from the powder bronzer it is also easy to use. I used these with a primer, so they did last all evening – but as they are so glittery I have not used them in the day to see if they last that long. These are definitely something to be used for an evening look, else you might end up looking a little like Edward Cullen.

Finally, on a last note. My favourite shade is definitely Platinum, just because I am so pale and it is Winter. However, I can’t wait to crack out the others once Summer is here – you can deffo get away with more glitter in the Summer with a bit of a tan! But this palette is perfect for anyone looking to add to their collection, or if they don’t know exactly which highlighting shade is best for them!

This Palette is available here for £9.99. So what do you guys think? Has anyone else tried this? Any tips for the darker shades?

Review: Holly Go Lightly Bubble Bar from Lush

A: Chloe got me this bubble bar for Christmas, and I’ve been saving it for a worthy enough use, which came on Friday night after my rather stressful week.

Firstly, it looks beautiful. All that glitter makes for a pretty happy bathtime. As soon as you start crumbling this under warm running water, it smells amazing. Cinnamon and Orange scents which perfectly sum up Christmas. I am a little sad I didn’t use this over the festive period because it smells so Christmassy – but it still made me happy using it in March. The glitter can been seen in the water, which turns bright green – but don’t worry, the glitter is so fine that it doesn’t stick to you!

Bubble bars are my favourite from Lush because I do like a proper bubbly bath, and this one didn’t disappoint. And I felt instantly relaxed, which is exactly what I needed. It made my skin feel heavenly, soft and silky, conditioned and luxurious as a bonus. What more could you want?

Have you tried this bubble bar? What’s your Lush favourite? #twolittleowlsblog

Real-Life Valentines Day Gift Ideas

C: I have seen so many Valentines Day gift idea posts floating around, that I decided to take a look and see what everyone is suggesting. Now, this might just be me as I am probs the only girl ever to not be that fussed about V-day (I told L off last year for wasting money on getting posh flowers delivered – I could have bought a dress with that?!) but does anyone really want horrid red/black underwear? Or beauty products/clothes in varying shades of pink that they wouldn’t wear any other time of year? No I think not. There’s nothing wrong with a nice M&S comfy floral set and neutral make up (starting to feel sorry for L here actually…). So here are my more realistic gift ideas, that I think are lovely for v-day but can be appreciated all year round.

photo 4(9)

1. The Lush Valentines Day range – I have already hinted (told) L that I want one of everything! Now clearly I will just end up having to buy these for myself, but seriously. Want to treat that beauty lover girlfriend? These will do the trick, plus they might share with you (if they are nicer than me). If Lush isn’t their cup of tea, have a little nose round and see what brands they like and get another bath time treat.

photo 2(24)

2. Flowers. Simple and yet effective. Now I know I already said I told L off for doing this for me, but only because I would have been just as happy if he had picked some out the garden for me. Find out what your loved ones fav flowers are (mine are peonies if you fancy treating me), or go for red roses if you aren’t sure.

photo 3(14)

3. Imperial Candles – I found these on facebook, and absolutely love the idea! You can get a beautiful candle (pick your flavour too, my fav is the sound of the English Pear & Vanilla) with a beautiful ring inside! You can even pick a ring size (or go for random if you aren’t sure!). For £28.99 I think these are such a clever idea – just make sure your girlfriend isn’t likely to think you are proposing. Although if that happens please do report back as I would find it very amusing.

photo 1(25)

4. Go on a couples spa day! Now this is a photo of the Imagine Spa in Kings Lynn that I have visited before and loved, but obviously you would have to pick one that’s closest to you. L would never do this with me, but I think its such a lovely idea and means you both get a treat!

Now obviously, some of these gift ideas are a little pricey (seriously, just go picking wild flowers) so if in doubt, go for home made. Cook a nice meal, or just think of something she has mentioned she likes and get it as a v-day gift. My favourite V-day present is still when L got me The Sims for the Xbox. Hours of entertainment, and although not typically romantic he knew I would love it, and this year we are going for a cheeky KFC with Annie and Jim (#livingthedream)! Let us know what you decide to go for (or if you share this as a hint) #twolittleowls

Review: Nanshy Blending Sponge

A & C: We were super lucky to receive some Blending sponges from the team at Nanshy as part of the #BHtwitterparty from The Bloggers Hub. Nanshy are a make up brush and tool company based in the UK, who pride themselves on their 100% vegan products. They sent us two of the their Marvel 4 in 1 blending sponges, one for each of us to try – which will be launched in February.

photo 1(24)

“Easy to use, easy to care for – washable and re-usable. Tremendous quality over similar products and value at a much lower price. Latex free, non-allergenic and odour free, works its wonders with all kinds of make-up:
Liquid Make-ups, Cream Make-ups, Mineral-Based and Wet-Dry Powders PLUS Cream Blushes!
Get a look that combines hand application detail with airbrush application smoothness.”

It’s priced at £5.95 – the average amount of other similar products available.

So, what do we think?

A: I’m going to be totally honest about this, I’m not really that impressed. I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve recently tried Avon’s blending sponge and I’m comparing it to that, but I just really didn’t get on with it. Up until using the Avon sponge, I had been using a Mac foundation brush because I’d never felt a need for a blending sponge. I was really excited to see these in the post from Nanshy though because I knew I’d be able to do a comparison for you guys; you can see my Avon review here. I really love the Avon sponge, it leaves no marks when applying, doesn’t soak up loads of product and it’s super easy to clean. The Nanshy sponge also doesn’t leave any marks but it does soak up a lot of product; which I’m not really a fan of. Although it may just be the impractical paler colour, it appears very dirty after one use.
Because it’s ‘4 in 1’, it had 4 different surfaces to use in different areas of your face. But it isn’t as precise as the Avon sponge which has a really fine point to reach under the inner corners of your eyes (to cover those pesky dark circles!) and to be honest I don’t really have a need for the 4 different surfaces of the Nanshy.
I do however love the ethos behind Nanshys products. They really do pride themselves on their cruelty free products, something which a lot of beauty companies could do with following. I hadn’t heard of them before but I will definitely be looking at trying some of their brushes in the future, to see how the compare with others I’ve used.

C: I really liked using this! I have never used a blending sponge before as I love my make up brush collection so I was super excited to try this. It took a while for me to get the hang of this for applying my foundation, but once I got used to it (too used to my stippling brush) it provides a flawless base. It literally looks like you have no make up on, just perfect skin! But then… I was feeling clever and used it to blend my contour. Perfection! Seriously. I much prefer using it for this now, no more dodgy Bronzer streaks for me! You need to give it a try (and so does Annie)!

We’d like to say thank you to Nanshy for sending us these to try, we really love finding out about new companies through the Bloggers Hub, and can’t wait to try some more of their products #twolittleowlsblog
