December 2015 Empties Part Two: Body Skincare, Shower Stuff and Hair Care!

C: Welcome to my second empties of the month! You can see my first empties post here if you are interested in the facial skincare and make up I have been using up! So lets get too it!

Body Skincare!

IMG_0918

Palmers Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks – after having a baby I have gone through lots of these types of products and this is by far my favourite. It moisturises and stops stretched skin from itching, smells good and actually seems to make a difference! I love it!

Repurchase? Yes if I ever decide being pregnant is a good idea again.

Nivea In Shower Body Moisturiser – I bought this ages ago and finally used it up now I have minimum time available for showering and moisturising! This really is a great idea and works well. I wouldn’t say it moisturises as well as a proper moisturiser, but it certainly works well enough for those days when you are super in a rush!

Repurchase? I would, but they do a cocoa butter version that I would like to try next.

Bio Oil – I know this is loads of peoples HG product… but tbh I think its pretty shit. soz. For the money it really seems to do nothing, it feels horrid and it doesn’t even smell nice. Nah mate.

Repurchase? Nope.

Molton Brown Relaxing Yuan Zhi Body Cream – we all love a bit of Molton Brown don’t we?! This smelt good and was of the same quality we have come to expect from this brand. I only wish the sample I got in my Cohorted box was bigger!

Repurchase? probs wouldn’t spend my pennies on it, but I would happily use it again.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Butter – oh more S&G? What a surprise. Wont bang on about this cos one of these body butters pretty much feature in every empties post I write. Love it.

Repurchase? Hells yeah.

Cowshed Blissful Body Lotion – I don’t normally like body lotions as I find them a bit thin and a waste of my time, but I bloody loved this! It smells amazing and actually moisturised my skin well.

Repurchase? I actually would!

Showergels

IMG_0915

Lush Hot Toddy – I wasn’t that interested by this when I received it last year for Christmas (clearly as I have only just used it) but I loved it! Super festive and this tiny bottle lasted me about 2 weeks!

Repurchase? If it is available again this year I will definitely be picking some up!

Soap & Glory Clean On Me – I took this with me in my hospital bag when I had baba so temporarily went off the smell (bad memories and all), but decided to finish it up this month and I am glad I have fallen in love with it again. Smells great and is super moisturising!

Original Source Raspberry and Cocoa – another product that had been hanging around since last Christmas! I really liked this when I first opened it but decided to save it for the colder months as its quite a wintery smell… anyone else do that or am I just weird?!

Repurchase? Yes, its lovely!

Dove Silk Glow – I am not normally a fan of Dove stuff, but I received this as a stocking filler last Christmas (jesus I am clearly bad at stashing stuff..) and fished it out this month when I ran out of shower gels I was excited about… and I liked it! It smelt nice, was super bubbly and moisturising.

Repurchase? Probably not, as I have lots I love more but I would happily use it again if I received it.

Beauticology Caramel Fudge – another Christmas present… whoops! I didn’t like this, it smelt nice but not as strong as I was hoping it would and it just didn’t lather up. You had to use so much product to feel even slightly clean that I used this up in 4 days. Boo!

Repurchase? Nope.

Hair Stuff

IMG_0917

Batiste Dry Shampoo – won’t go on about this as everyone in the world has used this I’m sure. I don’t even like it that much? But I just panic buy it when I go shopping, as I forget to look at the others that I actually like/have a brown tint so I don’t look like an old lady.

Repurchase? Yep, even though I shouldn’t!

Bed Head Colour Goddess Leave-In Conditioner – I got my hair ombre’d when I was preggo so I have been using this to keep the colour nice… I can’t say I noticed much of a difference but It smelt nice so I kept using it! It also helped keep my hair shiny and made it easier to brush out.

Repurchase? nope, I have started an Aussie detangling spray which I prefer and is half the price!

Hip Ultra Shine Shampoo – wasn’t keen on this. It was tea tree flavoured which made me think of nit shampoo… not that I have nits I just remember my mum spraying it in my hair so I  wouldn’t get them at school! It also didn’t lather up very well so I made L finish this!

Repurchase? Nope!

So there we have it, the end of the worlds longest empties post! Have you tried any of these products? what did you think of them! #twolittleowls

Baby Diaries: Do Stretch Mark Oils/Creams Really Work?

C: stretch marks… not pretty but probably one of those pregnancy things that everyone worries about at least a little bit? Pregnancy is a beautiful thing (in theory/for outsiders who don’t have to deal with the nasty little side effects our beautiful babies cause our poor bodies) but no one wants a body of stretch marks that last forever – even if they do fade eventually. The difficult thing is the number of products on the market, some of which are quite frankly extortionate in price. So the real question is… do they work? In my experience, I am afraid the answer is nope! And after a little research this seems to be the case for most people.

IMG_0111

I have tried several creams/oils that are widely available, and have been using them twice daily since the start of the second trimester, so since like week 12. And I am afraid to say, despite the major “lubing up” as the boyfriend delightfully calls this lengthy twice daily process I still have stretch marks. Now admittedly, I have watched one born every minute and spoken to my midwife about it, and my stretch marks are no where near as bad as other peoples. They are all very thin lines, and are mostly just on my hips rather than all the way across my new beer belly which I am super pleased about. But they are still there.

Would they have been worse if I havent used these creams? Who knows. I am afraid I can’t comment on that, I was far too scared of the dreaded stretch marks to risk not using them! After a little research I found that apparently stretch marks are hereditary…. which also seems to be a lie as my mother informed me she didn’t get any (and my father butted in, informing me his actual beer belly is still beautifully clear of stretch marks – inserted lolling emojis here). In fact, my midwife has told me that 90% of ladies get stretch marks. NINETY PERCENT. That is basically everyone.

So my recommendation? Both of these creams made my skin more supple and moisturised, meaning I haven’t had an itchy tummy whilst it has stretched, and if nothing more it is a way of pre-bonding with your beautiful baby via a little massage. As far as the bio-oil goes, I shall report back on how quickly my marks fade after they have finished stretching, but so far they haven’t gone bright red and look like old ones already, so I am feeling positive! But to cut a long story short? If you are gonna get them…. It’s going to happen no matter what! So my advice is to be prepared and not worry about it, your life isn’t over and they will fade eventually!

Any preggo bloggers out there found the same thing? #twolittleowls

Chloes July 2015 Empties!

C: Hello Summer! Another month, another empties post for you guys! Once again I have done quite a good job of using up my beauty stash this month – if that isn’t a reason to justify shopping then I don’t know what is! I have basically used up my horrendously huge stash now – I hadnt been shopping apart from for beauty essentials since before Christmas! So more pre-baby beauty shops are definitely in order now and the perfect way to celebrate starting my maternity leave, so keep your eyes peeled for some epic hauling!

photo(45)

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter – this is one of my favourite body butters, and since being pregnant I have been moisturising like cray to try and avoid the dreaded stretch marks! This is super moisturising, sinks in quickly and keeps skin moisturised all day – plus it smells amazing!

Repurchase – yes if I didn’t have several more lined up already!

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Cleanser – I wont go on about this as I reviewed it here, but this is my go to cleanser at the moment! I bloody love it!

Repurchase – I have already started my next bottle, so yes!

Anatomy Nutrients Instant Renewal Body Oil – I received this sample in a Birchbox I think, and when my skin got super dry I decided to give this a go and see if it worked better than my normal body butters. It did a good job of moisturising… I just hate the oiliness! Just not the product for me I’m afraid, I hate feeling oily and sticky but if you are a fan of body oils then I reckon you would love this!

Repurchase – Nope!

Models Own Nail Polish in Grape Juice – another product that I reviewed here, and I love it! This was one of my favourite colours in my collection but unfortunately I didn’t put the lid on properly and it spilt! I was so sad! I got a couple more uses out of it, but it is time to admit it is ready for the bin!

Repurchase – I certainly would buy this again if they still make the same shade.

Prada Infusion D’Iris Perfume – I am finally working through the samples Annie’s mum gave me just after Crimbo, as they are perfect for putting in my work bag! I wasn’t keen on this though, it apparently smells like clean linen sheets, ambience and italian voyage… bit weird. Smells like old people to me.

Repurchase – no thanks!

Jimmy Choo Perfume – I knew I liked this already as Annie has it and I steal some sometimes when I go round (soz Annie). This is a lovely floral fragrance that lasts all day. Beautiful.

Repurchase – I don’t like buying myself perfume, but it will certainly be added to the Christmas list.

So there we have it, another month of mini reviews for you all! Let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you thought of them! #twolittleowls

A Bargain Haul!

C: I went shopping with Annie on Saturday and just happened to decide to pop into the Factory Shop… I dunno if you guys have heard of it? Well basically they have lots of beauty bargains/are often actually full of all the same stuff that no one wants, but this time we were super lucky and wanted to share our purchases with you in case you have one nearby and can snap up the same bargains!

First up is this nail polish from Revlon in the shade 85 ‘Minted’ which cost a whole… £1.19. Bargain. I love this colour for Summer and I trust Revlon to provide me with a decent nail polish so this was a winner for me!

Nip + Fab CC Cream in Light for £2! Yes you read that correctly…£2, when it is £14.99 from Boots etc. I have an obsession with base products at the moment so this went straight in the basket. This find was also when I started shouting Annie desperately to see if she wanted one (she did) before the crowds behind me snatched them all (we were basically the only ones in the shop).

And iv saved the best til last…. Dr Brand pores no more, pore refining cream. RRP of £55 and this cost us both… £5! I literally couldn’t believe it. We clearly both got one (and I would have bought loads more if there was any) and they were so cheap that I started to minorly panic when paying that I had read it wrong and I was going to end up with a very sad bank balance!

So there we have our bargain shop of the week! I literally am still in shock, so if you have a Factory Shop near you then go and check it out! Reviews will follow in due course obviously, once we have had a chance to try these out/I have dared open the super expensive face cream that will look excellent in my bathroom! #twolittleowls

Chloes June 2015 Empties!

C: I am writing this post in advance, as this month is super exciting as I AM FINALLY MOVING HOUSE. Now due to moving house I cannot justify packing a box of empties… and I have also been using up as many half used products as I can. So here is my early written June empties!

photo(43)

Cetraben Emollient Cream – an essential for any eczema sufferers! I spoke about this badboy here if you are interested in eczema skincare, but for me this is a bathroom essential! I don’t have to use it all the time now I have my eczema under control, but I use it up to four times a day when I have a flare up and its AMAZING. It literally gets rid of dry eczema in a couple of days. True love.

Repurchase? Always.

Soap & Glory Hand Food – one of my favouritest hand creams! I love the smell of this, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin and it gets rid of dry skin super easily. I have recommended this to several friends who had really dry hands and they now love it too! (side note: don’t leave out in the sun – it doesn’t like it).

Repurchase? I got 3 for Christmas… but once they are used up I will indeed be repurchasing!

Carolina Herrera 212 Sexy Perfume – not keen on the name of this… or the bottle as you cant stand it up, but love the scent! I stole this from my mother, who I am sure has noticed by now but not bothered telling me to return it (her bathroom is just a free shop). The scent lasts all day and is quite sweet, which is perfect for me as I am a child and like to smell like candyfloss.

Repurchase? I never buy myself perfume… I’m not sure why. But if I did I would happily repurchase this little gem.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser – both Annie and I reviewed this here if you fancy a look, so I won’t bang on about it! But basically… love this. Great cleanser for sensitive skin.

Repurchase? Hella yeah.

Avon Super Extend Mascara – I got this free with another Avon purchase, so decided to give it a go rather than repurchase my Benefit They’re Real straight away… which I regret! Now I know this is meant to extend lashes, which it does do… but it also offers zero volume. So I just get strange spider legs lashes that I don’t enjoy. It also seems to have disappeared off my lashes by later in the afternoon, and ran out super quickly. So basically… soz Avon as usually I love you, but this mascara is not the one for me!

Repurchase? No!

So there we have another month of mostly positive empties, and another successful month of using up my stash! I haven’t been spending my pennies either, so I will basically have no stash soon! Shock Horror! Anyway… let me know if you have tried any of these products, and if you agree with my mini reviews! #twolittleowls

Chloes May 2015 Empties

C: another month, another set of empties! Once again I have done super well at shopping my stash and using up lots of samples and half opened products, I had so many and it seemed ridiculous to pack them all up for my move! So here we go!

photo(41)

1. Valentina by Valentino perfume sample – Annie gave me loads of these samples just after Christmas from her mum, and I have found them super useful for keeping in my handbag/going away bag when you dont want to risk breaking a whole bottle of perfume! I loved this scent, it was so fresh and floral, yet lasted all day! I got so many compliments whilst wearing this, even from my mother who wouldn’t normally comment on that sort of thing!

Repurchase? this is definitely going on my Christmas list next year (I never buy myself perfume… no idea why!)

2. Weleda Millet Nourishing Shampoo – another Birchbox sample here I think. This smelt amazing, and left my hair feeling clean and soft so it was definitely a thumbs up from me. Unfortunately I don’t personally think you can get a feel for the shampoo from such a small sample as I only got two washes out of this, but I did enjoy using it!

Repurchase? Sure, but only because I love Weleda products, would deffo need a larger sample to really comment on the shampoo’s effectiveness.

3. KMS Curl Up Wave Foam – oh look, another Birchbox sample. Clearly it is Birchboxes fault I have cupboards full of samples! I won’t go on about this as I reviewed it here so make sure you take a little look if you are interested!

Repurchase? I already have!

4. Rimmel BB Cream in Matte – another product that I have previously reviewed here

Repurchase? I already have! I didn’t get the matte one though, as my skin was dry and I am a bit sad cos I didn’t like it… so I will have to go and buy this one again!

5. Naobay Body Radiance Lotion – the third Birchbox sample of the post! This contains olive oil, avocado oil and shea butter, so it was super moisturising. I also loved the scent, which to me smelt like limes… but I cannot see any lime in the ingredient so I am probably just wrong on that. Soz. I really enjoyed using this, it helped my dry skin and was just a pleasure to use.

Repurchase? No. Not because I didn’t like it, as I did. But because I think there are plenty of other products that do the same for less pennies, and because I have insane amounts of body butter/lotion to use up!

So thats my empties done for another month! Have any of you guys tried any of these products? If so did you agree with my mini reviews? #twolittleowls

Annie’s Skincare Empties

A: So I don’t want any of you to faint with shock, but I’ve got an empties post for you….! I’ve actually only posted one empties since Chloe and I have been doing this blog; I’m terrible at using products up! But after months of forcing myself to, Ive got lots of goodies to share with you – starting with skincare.

This is a mixture of cleansers, toners and moisturisers – admittedly some of them aren’t empty but that’s because I’ve used them a few times and hated them so much that I couldn’t carry on using them!

So let’s get started with Clinique.

I got this clarifying lotion and cleansing foam as part of the three step anti-blemish solutions system. I have always struggled with blemishes and breakouts, but even more so in my twenties, so I eventually gave in and invested in this system last year, fully expecting it to solve all of my problems, because of all of the amazing reviews online. But it actually did the opposite. It irritated any blemishes I had, brought out so many spots after a day of using it. I persevered for three months, as advised, but I was still struggling with my skin. The clarifying lotion is so incredibly strong that it actually makes my eyes water – which makes me wonder what on earth is in it and whether it could actually be any good for my skin. And the cleansing foam had the same effect, but not quite as extreme. The three step system in the trial size versions (which are supposed to last three months) costs £25 from Boots, so I was expecting good things – but I am fully aware that everyone’s skin is different so I’d love to know  if your experience was different! Repurchase? No way!

This Boots Simply Sensitive Eye Make Up Remover was given to me by my Mum, because she didn’t get on very well with it – so I was more than happy to give it a go to see if I had the same experience. And as you can see hardly any of it has been used, between both of us, which can only mean one thing! This was another product that made my eyes sting and water, which considering its branded as ‘sensitive, no fragrance, no colour, hypoallergenic etc’ is disappointing. I do have super sensitive skin so was very much looking forward to using this but I was massively disappointed, and after talking to my mum she had the same experience! Repurchase? Nope!

The Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion was another purchase that I made when I was feeling massively stressed about my spots and bad skin, but to be totally honest with you; I’ve hardly used it. The texture is okay, and the scent too – not too strong and quite calming. But it just sits on top of my skin and doesn’t sink in at all? It’s actually like applying a peel off face mask because you can actually peel it off once it’s dry. Another product that’s promoted as a skin saviour but doesn’t live up to the hype (I promise the rest of the empties are going to get better!). Repurchase? No.

The Natio Rosewater and Chamomile Toner is something I bought from Feel Unique to bump up my shopping cart total so I got free delivery. I love rosewater so I guessed I’d like using this. And I was so right. This has got to be one of my favourite ever products, and it doesn’t exactly what it says on the packaging; it’s calming and soothing and leaves my skin feeling so lovely and soft and super refreshed. It was £6.50, which is a good price because it’s a fairly large bottle (250ml). Repurchase? As soon as I place another order with Feel Unique yes! I seem to have a terrible habit of falling in love with products which are only available online!

The Lacura Aqua Complete Serum is one of my favourite ever products and I’ve gone on about it far too much on the blog already. Just know that I love it and it costs £3.50 from Aldi. Repurchase? Already have! (If you actually want to read more about this, just click here).

Lastly, the Ultrabland cleanser from Lush. My hg skincare product. This really does work wonders, and I buy it in bulk whenever I’m near a Lush shop. You can see my full review here! Repurchase? Already have.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think to them? #twolittleowls
