A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 17!

C: morning!

Today I received a 7ml Youthful Eye Serum. This can apparently be worn underneath eye cream for an extra little boost, which I’m sure may assist my face due to the lack of sleep that comes with a baby, however I also forget to put eye cream on nowadays and normally just stumble to bed and pass out with no concern to face creams!

I will however try and test this out, as iv never tried an eye serum before and I’m interested to see what difference it may make!

Have any of you guys tried an eye serum before? #twolittleowls

Beauty Haul!

A: Chloe and I had a little trip to our local shopping outlet this week and I decided to stock up on some basics, and treat myself to some exciting new products too!

First we went to a bargain beauty shop and I picked up one of my go to must haves – the Aye Aye Captain Liquid Liner from W7. This creates the perfect wing, is super long lasting and it’s only £1.99!! I also got two face masks by 7th Heaven. I’ve never used these before but Chloe has and she said they’re amazing so thought I’d give them a go, they were 99p each so definitely worth a try!

We then went to The Body Shop, and because it’s an outlet store they have an amazing offer of if you buy 4 items you get 40% off!!! We obviously had to take advantage of this, and I’ve been loving their papaya shower gel recently so thought I’d give the blueberry, passion fruit and raspberry ones a try. I really can’t wait to try these and review them as they smell beautiful. These were in the sale at £3 (but I still got the 40% off on top of sale prices!). I then got some Instablur – an everyday staple for me. This is normally £14 but with my outlet discount this whole lot cost just £13.40!

What have you been hauling recently? #twolittleowls

Review: Lacura Face Care Aqua-complete Multi Intensive Serum

A: Another Aldi special from me I’m afraid! I recently reviewed their Hair Culture Shampoo and Conditioner (click here to see!) and now that I’ve been using this products for a few months now, I thought it was time to give it a review.

IMG_0024.JPG

Chloe actually told me about this product ages ago because I was looking for a super hydrating moisturiser. I’d never actually used a serum before, but I popped to Aldi to pick one of these up and it cost me just £3.49! I started using it as soon as I got home, and have never looked back. Now I don’t have particularly dry skin but it is pretty sensitive, so I was a little cautious of using a new product at first, but this really does feel lovely to use. It’s super silky and smooth, and sinks into your skin almost immediately – I hate it when a product sits on top of your skin! It doesn’t have a scent, which is a quality I like in a facial moisturiser because it feels really clean when you apply it, and not weighted down with additives. It leaves your skin feeling totally prepped and ready to apply make-up too. I now use this as part of my morning and evening routine everyday, if you use a product you get on with, just stick to it, but if you’re still looking for you holy grail moisturiser, you might as well give this a go! The packaging is a little deceiving though, and actually only contains 50ml – but for £3.49 it’s still a bargain and its lasted me a good couple of months as you only need use a pea-sized amount. The pump action is pretty impressive too, I’ve just finished my first bottle and managed to easily use most of the product without having to take off the lid to get the remnants out.

Aldi offer three products in their facial moisturiser range;

The Aqua Complete: for normal skin aged between 20 – 35 years, making skin appear more radiant and youthful.

The Renew Q10: Anti-wrinkle formula for ages 30 – 45, helping to smooth skin and reduce the appearance of lines.

The Restorative: for mature skin aged 45+, helping to smooth skin and restore suppleness.

I have actually only used the Aqua Complete but if we are still writing this blog when I hit 30+ and 45+, I promise I will review the other two products for you!

You Beauty Discovery Box October Edition

A: This is a beauty box that I find myself unable to unsubscribe from. I’ve had it for the last two months now (you can see September’s here), and you get between four and five products each month, two of which you choose from a selection which the team at You Beauty have put together. The price of the box is £6.95 – including postage! So here is what I got this month, the first two items being the ‘extras’, the second two being my choices.

photo 1

Gold Collagen Forte

“GOLD COLLAGEN® Forte is a new anti-ageing liquid beauty supplement; it contains a unique, potent blend of antioxidants (Q10, acai berry, pomegranate, lycopene, L-Carnosine and resveratrol) to reduce the oxidative stress associated with ageing in your 40’s.”

Okay this is weird. I actually opened this and smelt it before I read what it was, and I assumed it was a lotion because of it’s super sweet scent. Then I read that you drink it. WHAT?! This is a daily supplement, and it is recommended that you drink one bottle a day to support healthy looking skin, hair and nails. It’s also supposed to hydrate your skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and protect against oxidative damage (whatever that is). The flavour is Peach and Lychee, and I love anything that smells or tastes of peach but this really smells awful to me. The sweet, almost clinical smell makes me gag. There is no way I can imagine drinking this, and the retail price is £40 for a ten-day package. Not particularly cheap, but if it does what it says on the tin it’s probably worth it. It is aimed at the 40+ age group. Not quite there yet. Sorry You Beauty, this is not for me.

Cowshed Perfecting Night Serum

“Cowshed Anti-Ageing Perfecting Night Serum is the ultimate all-in-one anti-ageing treatment for busy women with busy lives. The innovative serum-in-oil hybrid is bursting with natural active ingredients and essential oils that work wonders on your skin while you sleep, so that you can wake up to a firmer, brighter and smoother complexion. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!”

This is a product I am much happier with. I’ve seen a lot of Cowshed products about and have been wanting to try them out for a while. I am at the age (argh) where I should start to use anti-ageing products, so hopefully this will encourage me. Prevention is better than cure, as they say. It contains natural ingredients, such as Rosehip oil and Evening Primrose oil for cell regeneration and Jojoba oil with skin-soothing minerals such as zinc and vitamins B and E. Plus the brand was founded in an actual cowshed. Amazing. It does come in a little pricey though, at £48, but You Beauty are offering a code to receive a Skin Care Starter Kit with every purchase from the Cowshed website (click here). I received a sample size version of this, and although it is a little small I will be letting you know what I think.

Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Tease

“Illamasque Glamore Lipsticks are colour intense lipsticks with a long lasting satin finish. They offer ultimate comfort and smooth application without compromising on colour. Long lasting with intense pigment payoff, these lipsticks ooze both glamour and sophistication.”

photo 2

I was SO excited when I saw these lipsticks were available and headed online as soon as I could to add this to my box! I’ve never had a product from this company before, but I was expecting good things. The packaging really is lovely, super sophisticated and posh (plus it makes a lovely clicking sound when you put the lid on, does anyone else get an insane amount of satisfaction from that?!). But I am disappointed with the colour. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nude lipstick – most of my collection is made up of nudes but because of it’s amazing colour pigmentation, this applies like a concealer. It’s really strange! I’m hoping I can make it work for me though because the consistency is perfect, it applies beautifully – so keep you eyes out for a make-up look including this! This retails at £18.50 – so more than double the price I paid for my whole box.

Wild About Beauty Power Eyeshadow in Alana

“These eyeshadows are enriched with skin conditioning Aloe Vera & Vitamins E & C, available in an array of wearable shades, ideal for creating a multitude of looks. Apply to eyelids with an eyeshadow brush. If you’re looking for a Wild About Beauty brush, the brand recommends the Tapered Eyesahdow Brush.”

photo 1

I received a Wild About Beauty lipstick in last month’s box and loved it, so when I saw this I know I had to go for it. Now, I’m not a massive eyeshadow fan. I just can’t get it to look right on me, but I do like to use it as an eyeliner. This colour however is so lovely that I am going to try and branch out and wear it in a smokey eye look (wish me luck!!). It really is highly pigmented, and the little bee is so super cute. I find it really handy that it has a little mirror too! These retail at £13.

Although I was a little disappointed with some of the products in this month’s box, I am going to try and make them work for me (not the Collagen stuff though…). I will persevere with the lipstick and the eyeshadow, and try to do a make-up look using them both, so keep following! The total value of this box is approximately £36 – a real bargain considering I paid just £6.95. If I’ve tempted you, you can head to the You Beauty Discovery Website by clicking here.

Annie’s London Lush Haul

A: As you know, Chloe and I had a little trip to London a couple of weeks ago to attend the #bloggersfestival – and we seeked out Lush on Regent Street because it’s one of our favourite shops.

Firstly, the staff were so lovely – we know this is a standard Lush procedure but they really were. They are always super helpful and recommend all sorts of lovely products to you. Here’s what I went for:

photo

The Comforter – Bubble Bar

“Sometimes you just need to shut yourself off from the outside world under a blanket of fruity foam that will put you back in the right frame of mind to face the world. This bar is supersized, so you’ll only need to crumble half a bar under your tap to make enough bubbles for a long, comforting soak. Cassis absolute gives a distinctive blackcurrant fragrance, while bergamot adds an uplifting note.”

I went for the classic Comforter Bubble Bar – I had been walking around London all weekend and I was super excited to get home, have a cup of tea and a nice bath, and what better way to finish off a weekend than with a Lush bath. As you can see, I didn’t even have time to take a photo before I used it (soz, I was way too excited). I hadn’t actually tried this before and Chloe suggested I give it a go, I’m so happy she did because it really is lovely. It smells beautiful and makes your bath super pink, whilst making your skin feel super soft and luxurious. The ‘ribena berry’ scent stays with you for ages and the bubble factor is pretty impressive too – which is always a bonus in my book. These are £4.50 but you can get at least two uses, maybe more, out of one.

Ultrabland – Cleanser

“Based on an ancient Greek formula for cold cream, Ultrabland is beautifully simple and very effective. Made with almond oil, rose water, beeswax and honey, this cleanser removes all traces of dirt and makeup, without stripping away your skin’s natural defences. Smooth over the face, any dirt will cling to the cream and you can remove it with a warm damp cloth or cotton wool. “

A cult classic, but something I haven’t ever tried before. I’ve been using the Benefit They’re Real eyeliner which can be a little tricky to remove so Chloe recommended this cause she said it removes her They’re Real Mascara really well (I know, she should go work for Lush). I have only used it a few times so far, and I have found it to be a little greasy but I am going to persevere. It does leave my skin looking and feeling visibly clear and clean but the morning after, I have woken up an oily/greasy t-zone – which is not something that I normally wake up with. This is £6.95 for the small pot.

Mint Julips Lip Scrub

“A gentle lip scrub with more than a hint of mint humbug about it. Turn chapped lips into mint-choc chip lips: warming peppermint and sweet vanilla combine with real sugar crystals give your lips (and tastebuds) a service, leaving them primed for smooth lipstick application. As soon as you gently rub Mint Julips on your lips, you’ll feel its invigorating peppermint oil tingling away while the sugar crystals buff away any flaky skin.”

Chloe and I both bought one of these, but she went for a different flavour (is that the right word? it smells good enough to eat so we will go with that). With the weather turning a little cooler, chapped lips are on the horizon – but this should deter them. It smells like After Eights too, which is always a reminder of Christmas and chocolate treats (can you tell I’m excited for winter?). I can’t wait to use this, so I will be letting you know what I think in a review as soon as I can. It’s priced at £5.50 and although it’s a small pot, but I think it will last a while.

August Empties: Take One!

C: Due to trying to use up my stash of samples/products before moving house, I have so many empties this month I have had to split them into two posts… impressive! Right, so here is what I have used up this month:

photo 1(11)

Mitchum Advanced 48 hr Protection – deodrant is not something I would normally mention over here as we aim to discuss all things beautiful and lovely – however, non-sweaty pits are beautiful in my view so I had to include this! I have issues… basically I panic I smell all the time (Annie gets fed up of being made to smell me) and this is long lasting with zero horrid sweaty patches! I found this formula a little drying for my sensitive skin, so I have now bought the cream version… hello HG deodrant. True Love.

Repurchase: hella yeah!

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque – I won’t bang on about this as we have reviewed this face mask here and I love it! It is perfect for drying up excess oils and for clearing out clogged up skin.

Repurchase: I may have accidentally re-bought it already even though I have loads of face masks to use up!

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel – Soap free and made from Community Fair Trade olive-oil from Italy! Perfect for my sensitive skin but not normally the fragrance I would go for in TBS. I won this in a work-do raffle at Christmas (obviously everyone else picked food hampers… I went for anything and everything beauty related) and didn’t get round to using it for ages, but the scent is amazing! So delicate yet feminine, I wouldn’t even know how to go about describing it but I recommend you go and have a sniff/buy the whole range immediately.

Repurchase: I haven’t re-bought it yet as I am working through my beauty stash and have lots of half opened shower gels to use up, but I will be buying from this range again in the future – loved it!

Rimmel Glam’eyes Professional Liquid Eyeliner – another one of my favourite products here. True black eye liner that has a precision brush and lasts for hours (unless it rains, I haven’t found a waterproof liquid eyeliner I’m not allergic too yet!). I know lots of people prefer a felt tip end for easier application but I prefer the preciseness (is that a word?!) of this!

Repurchase: I already have!

What have you guys been using up this month? All very positive from me about these little beauties, has anyone else tried this and loved them too?! #twolittleowlsblog

August Pink Parcel

C: something a little different today, I received my pink parcel this morning! I had been looking round at different subscription boxes and this one jumped out at me. I had never heard of it before, but basically… it’s for your lady problems! For £5.95 intro price and £9.95 each month afterwards they send you your monthly essentials (currently only tampons but pads will apparently be available soon) as well as some extra treats to cheer you up. So here is what the box looks like:

photo 1-5

So first up the box is super discreet, so those of you who are embarrassed/like to be discreet about this sort of thing have no worries about the neighbours or other people you live with realising what you got – it also comes in a white plastic covering with just your address on. It is a little bigger than I thought it would be, but still thin enough to fit through the letter box.

photo 2-6

Inside it is really nicely packaged, with a little drawer string bag to pop in your handbag. It contains plenty of tampons – probably more than you would need (better than not enough!) with the two “for later” boxes being full as well. I think I received 25 – I’m not an excellent counter. And then… the best part! In the “for you” box there are some little treats to make that time of the month a little bit better. Here is what I got:

photo 3-2

I received a sample of Bio Oil – something that I have never used before but have heard amazing things about. I don’t really have any stretch marks etc but I see how this fits in with the theme!

I also got a little bar of chocolate and a sample tea bag from Tea Pigs for a little treat ( I ate it already… it was good). As well as a pink “Binky” nail polish. According to Annie this is someone from Made in Chelsea, but I have never heard of it/her so thats a fail apparently!

Lastly I received a ROC 50ml facial sunscreen and lip balm. Perfect for this time of year and I will get plenty of use out of – if the sun ever comes out again!

So anyway… have any of you guys heard of Pink Parcel? I quite liked my first box and love trying new stuff out for the blog, but I haven’t decided whether to carry on subscribing yet so let me know what you think? #twolittleowlsblog

The Original Mint Julep Mask

A: So Chloe and I posted about this a couple of months ago (find it here) and I’ve decided to do an extra review because although I use this as a face mask once a week, I’ve discovered a new use for it which has made it even more impressive.

20140804-202144-73304311.jpg
I’ve had some serious hormonal break outs recently. Like so serious that the thought of leaving the house makes me want to hide under the duvet forever – and we all know how that feels, so I knew I absolutely had to share this product with you.
Chloe mentioned using this as a spot treatment, so I gave it a go by applying it directly on the spot at night in a thick layer, after the rest of my night time routine and then leave it until the morning. In the morning I wash my face with warm water and ta-dah! It’s like a small miracle has happened. My spots have calmed down so much and aren’t as angry, and once the mask is washed off, I’m always left with really smooth skin to apply my moisturiser and make-up. It is a little drying but that’s totally expected, I just take extra care with my applying moisturiser. This is a bargain – I can’t recommend it enough. It’s amazing to use as a weekly fave mask but as a spot treatment, it’s the best I’ve used. My
spots were beyond horrendous last Thursday but they are already seriously improved after using this every night since. Once I’ve got make-up on, the blemishes can’t be seen at all. This cost me just £2.68 from Amazon. Go buy some now!

Have you tried this face mask? Do you have any spot treatment recommendations? #twolittleowls

Chanel No.5 L’Emulsion Corps – The Body Lotion

image1 image

“Floral-aldehydic, a bouquet of abstract flowers with an indefinable femininity”

C & A: Firstly, let’s just all take a few minutes to bask in the glory of this product. The packaging is b-e-a-utiful and so luxurious. We lovely every inch of it, right down to the gold logo on the lid.

This has the iconic No. 5 scent, which has and will go down in history for years to come. We know it’s super pricey, but it’s totally worth it. This one was bought from our local department store for £42, and Debenhams sell it for the same price (here).

A: I think that everyone deserves a splurge and this would definitely be my choice. The scent is lovely, and lighter than the eau de parfum version – which can be a little heavy for every day use. Although I perhaps wouldn’t use this for everyday outings like work and boring stuff, I would use it for both casual and more special evenings and days out. The formula is so silky and smooth and hydrtaes your skin beautifully, and lasts all day – meaning the lovely floral aroma stays with you too. It is an incredibly feminine scent which is perfect for those summer evenings. I think that this is worth the hefty price tag because it makes you feel special, and after all – who doesn’t need a bit of Chanel in their life?

C: I can’t describe this product any better than Annie did… it’s just amazing. Chanel (and the price tag) are sheer luxury and this is definitely a special occasion product but I just love it! You only need a tiny amount of product for silky smooth, heavenly scented skin that is so sophisticated I feel like I shouldn’t really be allowed near the bottle. This is definitely getting added to my Christmas list… sorry parents!

Embroylisse Lait-Crème Concentrate: a review

A: I received this in my June Birchbox and I thought it was about time a shared a review with you all.

embryoliss-lait-concentre_1_

So what do Birchbox say about this product?

“Take a peek in any make-up artist’s kit and you’ll spy a well-loved tube of Embryolisse’s cult Lait-Crème Concentre. Since we’re just as picky as the pros, you’d better believe we’re fans too. This velvety moisturiser is rich without being heavy and gives skin the ultimate silky finish, thanks to generous amounts of soothing shea butter and aloe vera. It absorbs quickly without any residue. Plus, it doubles as a makeup remover, post-shave soother and all-over body lotion. Who says beauty isn’t practical?”

I’ve been using this for just over a month now and I’m quite picky about moisturisers so this is pretty good going. It has a really thin texture which I like in a moisturiser and the shea butter keeps my skin super hydrated throughout the day and feels lovely, plus it acts as a primer so for those everyday make-up looks, you don’t have to use product after product and can let your skin breathe throughout the day. My sample was pretty small so I couldn’t use it as an all-over body lotion like Birchbox suggest, but I did use it to remove my make up once or twice and it worked really well which I was surprised about – we all know how stubborn ‘they’re real’ can be!

I was hoping it would help with my break-out situation that seems to be going on and on forever. Although it hasn’t reduced my break-outs, it hasn’t made them worse either –  I have had a pretty stressful month with exams so I’m inclined to forgive it of this one. But I do have sensitive skin and this has been really good for soothing because it’s scent free and doesn’t cause any irritation = happy Annie!

Overall, I’m really happy with this as a moisturiser/make-up remover/primer – Birchbox have done good! I hadn’t heard of this brand before and it is renowned as a cult classic in virtually all of it’s reviews so I’m really excited to have discovered it.

It’s priced at £12.99 for 30ml on the Birchbox website, which I think is pretty reasonable for such a multi-use product. I’m pretty sure it’s helped me decide on what to spend those lovely Birchbox points on!

What do you think to this beauty must-have?
