Annie’s May favourites

20140531-174618-63978059.jpg
A: Following Chloe’s May Favourites, it’s now my turn to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

My latest Yankee Candle purchase, this is more of a lifestyle choice but I LOVE candles and have them burning all the time. I’ve had a super stressful time since my holiday with exams and study but this has helped keep me calm. It’s Yankee Candle’s Wild Rose. Rose is one of my favourite scents – it reminds me of summer and it’s just so floral and pretty so this candle always puts me in a happy place – and you can never go wrong with a Yankee Candle. I got this from a local outlet too, so it was a bargain at £6.98.

My next favourite is this Avon corrector palette. I mentioned this in a haul post back in April but I haven’t had chance to review it yet. Quite simply, it’s brilliant. It has four different colour concealers which cover all of your cover up needs. I have really spot prone skin, so I need a good balance of concealers at all times. I have used the yellow one the most, as you can probably see – because it reduces redness. The orange is for dark circles, the pink is to act as a highlighter and the beige is a standard concealer. The palette comes with a small concealer brush which fits in the compact nicely and has a sturdy lid which isn’t likely to break easily. The consistency of the products are all the same and apply really well, without being clumpy or too drying but it is still long lasting. The only thing that would make this perfect would be to have a mirror on the inside of the lid. It was in a flash sale when I purchased it for £6.00 but you can buy it here for £10.50.

The next product, I have reviewed briefly before. It’s The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Facial Wash. I have been using this for a month now and I have fallen in love. Tea Tree has natural healing abilities so it’s perfect for those pesky blemishes. I use it morning and night, before applying and after removing my make up. It smells lovely although it does smell strongly of erm… tea tree. It lathers really well when you massage it into your face, and washes off easily, and it’s worked wonders for my pores! I did expect it to be drying but it isn’t at all, it’s cleansing and soothing. I do have sensitive skin but it hasn’t affected it in a bad way and my face feels super clean after I’ve used it. You can find it here for £5.00. Bargain!

Okay I’ve saved the best till last. I was lucky enough to receive this MAC lipstick for my birthday in matte Taupe. I can’t tell you how much I love this. The colour is beautiful and so wearable, although I obviously save it for special occasions! It’s super long lasting and has a really creamy texture, which is unusual for such a matte colour. Matte lipstick is my favourite and I have bought quite a lot (too many!!) but this is the best consistency by far. All I can say is if you haven’t got a MAC lipstick already, you should definitely treat yourself. You won’t regret it, they are little beauties.

Chloe’s May Favourites!

C: this month has gone so quickly, only seems like yesterday I was writing about my April favs – so much so I edited this photo originally saying “Aprils Favourites!” oops! So here we go… I haven’t had many stand out products this month, I didn’t want to just include anything so a few of these are old favourites that I keep on coming back too!

Image

So first up we have LUSH’s Let the Good Times Roll which is my go to exfoliator at the moment. I won’t bang on about this as we did a full review on it here but I have been reaching for this lately to exfoliate my skin and prep it for make up without irritating my skin!

Benefits Hoola Bronzer- a beauty blogger favourite. I have really got into my contouring recently and I would recommend this for anyone with pale skin. It is the perfect bronzer that isn’t orange at all and blends really easily! Perfect for a contouring novice like me!

Elf Eyebrow Kit – I love this bad boy and it is a massive bargain. Perfect for filling in my non existent brows and keeping them tame all day long. You can use as little or as much as you want for a natural or dark brown look. Love it.

Laura Mercier Vanilla Ombre Body Butter – I received this in one of my Birchboxes a while ago and have only just got round to trying it. The scent is AMAZING. I love vanilla scented things anyway but this is just heavenly. The smell lasts so long and it is really moisturising as well. I keep putting it on before bed so I can fall asleep surrounded by the beautiful scent and wake up too baby smooth skin.

Last but certainly not least we have Model Co’s Party Proof Lipstick in “Kitty”. I love these lipsticks (I now have 4 in different colours) as they are long lasting, have a smooth application and are the perfect nudes for every day wear. What more could you want? These are available for £15.50 on the Birchbox website for 3 nude or bright colours.

So what have you guys been loving this month? Let us know, we love to hear from you! #twolittleowlsblog

How ‘Bout Them Apples – A Birchbox Review

A & C: We recently received these super cute samples in our Birchboxes and after giving them a whirl we are ready to share our thoughts with you guys! We both received the colour “Pie” which does not seem to be available on its own but the palette containing 6 shades is £26 from Birchbox.

Image

C: so firstly… how super adorable is this packaging? I love the BALM’s vintage feel packaging and I especially like that all the colours have apple themed names. I’m unsure on the naked men part but we won’t get in to that. So how did the product work? I have never used a cheek creme/cream blusher before so I cannot compare it too other formulas but I can say how easy it was to apply for a newbie. I dotted a little on my cheeks and then blended with my Real Techniques blusher brush and it lasted all day! I also tried it as a lip colour and I really liked it for that as well. It was a little bit drying on the lips and lasted about 2 hours, which for a multi-use product is pretty good going!

A: I really like the BALM’s products that I have had before in my Birchbox so I was really excited to receive this in my box this month, especially because I have been lusting after a cream blusher for ages. I wouldn’t normally choose this colour to go with my skin tone because it is pink based and I usually go for a brownish toned blusher but this is actually really lovely against my skin tone. I took the same approach as Chloe (except I did it as soon as I opened my box – I get way too excited about new things and have to use the straight away but Chloe has to save them…little bit strange), and dotted onto my cheeks and blended with a brush and found that it lasted all day because if it’s staining quality, but it was also easy to remove with make up remover. I do prefer to use it on my cheeks rather than on my lips, the whole dual use thing freaks me out a bit and although the shade looks good on my cheeks, it looks totally wrong on my lips. I would quite like to use the ‘crisp’ colour as a lip stain, and I really like the idea of being able to buy the whol palette so you get a choice every day – what more could you want!!

Have you tried this or any other products from the BALM? #twolittleowls

Challenge: A photo and hour for one day!

Challenge: A photo an hour for one day!

A & C: After seeing several amazing posts that bloggers had done for this challenge we decided to have a go at it ourselves! As we were both off yesterday for Bank holiday Monday it was the perfect time to have the day together to do it! So here goes!

8.00 – I had stayed over at Annie’s the night before and as usual we didn’t manage a lie in and were up bright and early! Here’s a picture of Ted who came to say good morning/steal the duvet.

Image

9.00 – celebratory drinks were considered as I was no longer on call and could drink! We decided it was a bit early, but it’s nice to have the option!

photo 1(4)

10.00 – we loved this photo, we were trying to get ready and just couldn’t decide what to wear – we blame the weather being too unpredictable.

photo 2(4)

11.00 – Breakfast time! We had to wait until 10.00 for our local farm shop to be open so breakfast was a bit late today!

Image

12.00 – driving to the shops (only minorly distracted Annie from driving, took photo in the car park – health & safety first of course)

photo 3

13.00 – After a massive breakfast sweets were of course needed, we got ice creams too but we were so excited we ate those before remembering to take a photo!

Image

14.00 – Tie dying materials have been purchased.

Image

15.00 – Tie-dying has begun – along with a sneaky bank holiday cider!

photo 4

16.00 – Clearly we spent too much time tie-dying…

Image

17.00- The finished articles!

Image

18.00 – Ted was tired out by all the tie-dying. It’s tough being a cat.

Image

19.00 – we had to eat tea in Annie’s living room as her boyfriend Jim had just finished fitting her new floor and apparently “it feels so nice on my feet, I need to sit in my new living room” ha!

Image

20.00 – slippers and fire on, time to chill with L and get ready to watch Bear Grylls’ “The Island”

The Tea Tree Range from The Body Shop: first thoughts

20140524-185133-67893318.jpg

A: firstly, apologies for the picture but it was too funny to not use. Ted was not impressed with me for trying to use the last of today’s sunlight to get a photo, I had to move him from his favourite sleeping place. Anyway, on to the serious business.
I featured these three beauties in haul post earlier this week (see it here), and I thought I should give you my first thoughts because I’m super happy with these purchases.

I’ve used tea tree oil before, because it’s anti-bacterial, it’s a well known aid to help healing those pesky blemishes. I hadn’t ever used any other tea tree products but The Body Shop had a flash sale on last week with 40% off – practically free, so I decided to take the plunge.
I chose the facial wash, the exfoliator and the blemish fade night lotion.
I’ve been using the facial wash morning and night now since Wednesday and I can see a difference already in my skin. My pores look smaller (whether they are or not I don’t know….) and my face feels fresh and clean. The tea tree is fairly strong in this product, but I like that because it feels like I’m giving my skin a really deep clean without drying it out. After I’ve used the wash in the evening, I use the blemish lotion. This is a perfect accompaniment to the facial wash as it is like a soothing gel which sinks into your skin instantly. The tea tree is mild in this and acts in a cooling way, rather than harsh like some other tea tree products. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and moisturised – perfect.
Lastly, the exfoliator. I have only used this twice – it isn’t something I would use more than twice a week because it’s what I’d call a ‘super exfoliator’. The tea tree is really strong in this and it can feel a little harsh, but it does make your skin feel like you’ve removed every last scrap of make up and virtually brand new and squeaky clean.

All in all, I am SO happy with this range. I really struggle with break outs but (not wanting to jinx it) this seems to be keeping them at bay, so fingers crossed! I love buying stuff from The Body Shop too because it makes me feel good, and like I’m supporting a company that looks after the planet.

Have you tried the tea tree range from The Body Shop? #twolittleowls

M and Co Capsule Holiday Wardrobe

A: After finding this really fun challenge on M and Co’s blog, we decided we should definately give it a go.

We have an M and Co in our local town and it’s somewhere I head to regularly if I am in need of a new outfit because they have such a wide range of clothing and accessories, and always have pieces in that are high fashion – they are really big on the tribal print at the moment, which is a trend I absolutely love.

The challenge is to put together a capsule holiday wardrobe from M and Co’s online Holiday shop for under £100. So here are my must have holiday peices.

Image Image

Obviously swimwear is top of the list, and this polkadot bikini (thankfully it’s not itsby, bitsy, teeny, weeny or yellow – yellow is NOT a good colour for us gingers) is perfect for me. I want a bikini to make me feel covered, comfortable and safe, so if I want want to do a dive bomb in the swimming pool, I can. It has got removable padded sections and has a really lovely shape to offer support. It’s a bargain too, the top is £16 and the bottoms are £14.

Image

Okay so I LOVE these beach trousers. I would wear palazzo pants all the time if I could because they are super comfy and are perfect for hot countries because of their light fabric, in the day or evening. These would look amazing with just a bikini top for lounging around the pool, with a simple white blouse for the day time or with a black vest and some boho-style jewellery for the evening. Perfect for a capsule wardrobe because they can be worn for so many occassions. They are £26, and totally worth every penny.

Image

I always try to pack a good pair of comfortable and practical shorts for a holiday because my boyfriend gets bored pretty easily and we normally go on lots of excursions, which can involve anything from climbing Mayan pyramids to sliding down Jamaican waterfalls – and I like to keep my dignity if I can. These are ideal for warm weather because they are made from linen, and are really versatile so can be worn with anything. They are new in at M and Co, part of their ‘High Summer ’14 Catalogue’,  and come with this really cute belt (again – a perfect addition to a capsule wardrobe because you can wear it with dresses, trousers or anything else you fancy). They are £26.00.

Image

Lastly, I have chosen this blue swing blouse as part of my holiday essentials. This is such a lovely colour, described as ‘Wedgewood’ and will go perfectly with the white linen shorts I have also chosen. It’s made from a lightweight polyester and has a really flattering but comfortable shape, and a statement necklace worn under the collar will really dress this up for the evenings. This is in the sale at the minute, and its £18, reduced from £26.

So that’s my choices for my holiday must-haves, 5 pieces for exactly £100, which are all really versatile and wearable. Perfect! Head to M and Co’s website to have more of a nosey at their holiday shop (click here), we’d love to know what you would choose! #twolittleowls

A recent haul!

C: I have made several orders and been shopping with week – oops! So I thought I would share with you what I have been buying!

Image

First up we have the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter which Annie ordered me as they were having a 40% off flash sale. I had seen a lot of reviews on this, and first impressions are very good! I shall do a review on it as soon as I have been using it for a while and have a better understanding of its long term effects (oooh listen too me, Uni mode!). I also went shopping with Annie (we are bad people) and picked up this Rimmel liquid eye shadow at the bargain make up shop in Spalding. Reduced from £4.99 to £1.99, I just had to have it. My excuse was that I needed change for parking… that counts right?

Whilst shopping I also picked up this jumper from an M&S outlet for just £9! You really should check out M&S sales as they have some amazing things, you just have to look through. I really like the detailing on this and will be perfect for those summer nights when it starts to get chilly.

I also used my Birchbox points up this month so I got the BALM’s Mary-Lou Manizer and these Model Co lipsticks for just 50p… amazing! This reward scheme is one of the reasons I love Birchbox, as it really is very generous. I have one of the Model Co lipsticks in “Kitty” and I have almost used it up so I needed to repurchase. Reviews to come of course!

Review: Soap & Glory – the FAB PORE 2-in-1 pore purifying mask & peel

C: Woah, that is one long title. Described by S&G as a “15 minute intensive-action pore purifying facial peel” which can also be used for just 5 minutes for a quick refresher.

photo(14)

No first off lets just say I really liked this face mask, it reduced the appearance of my pores – I wouldn’t say it shrank my pores but it really cleared them out and made them easier to cover with make up. I also took it to Annie’s one evening and we used it whilst watching a film (and obviously painting our nails) and she really liked it as well.

I leave it on for at least 15 minutes each time (in the hope that by leaving it on longer I would have the skin of a goddess) and my sensitive skin does not react at all to it, which is brilliant. I then wash it off whilst using the small exfoliating beads within it to give my face a good scrub – a lovely inclusion as then you have done two skin care steps with just the one product.

However…. S&G describe this as a facial peel on the packaging which I think is a bit deceptive/confusing as this is not the peel of facial mask I thought it was (I love them! Reminds me of picking glue off my hands when I was at school). After a little research on the S&G website, it is referred to as a peel because it helps peel away pore clogging dead skin rather than being a peel in itself!

This costs £10 for 50ml which seems very expensive, but you get plenty for your money! You only need to use a small amount at a time, and after 2 months of using this twice a week I still haven’t finished my pot! They also often have offers on in Boots, as I picked this up for one third off! A bargain that I would definitely recommend.

Have any of you guys tried this? Or do you have any recommendations on masks for us to try? #twolittleowlsblog
