Chloe’s October Empties!

C: Another month… another very successful empties box! I hadn’t really paid attention to what I was using up this month so I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had used up nine things – thats pretty impressive work for me, especially when I wasn’t specifically trying to use stuff up! So here is this months empties:

IMG_0181

Lacura Face Care Aqua-complete Multi Intensive Serum – Annie actually reviewed this very accurately here, so I wont go into too much detail but I really liked this. I did remove the label though so it would look prettier on my dresser… but it is a great serum, especially for the price!

Repurchase? Definitely! This is such a bargain!

The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Shower gel – this had been sat in my stash since Christmas as I hate eating grapefruit, and grapefruit washing up liquid makes me vom so I assumed I would hate this! Due to laziness, as this was the first shower gel I came too whilst having a rummage I finally used it and loved it! The scent is delicate and beautiful, and it lathers up nicely so a little goes a long way! This tiny bottle lasted me over two weeks – another reason why I love the Body Shop!

Repurchase? Surprisingly yes!

Sarah McNamara Miracle Skin Transformer Hyrdoactive Microderm – another Birchbox sample here I believe! I liked the scrubbiness of this, it was nicely exfoliating without being too harsh but I wasn’t keen on the formula on the cream. It just sat on top of my skin and didn’t sink in at all, meaning when I used a micellar water afterwards there was still loads of make up there.

Repurchase? Nope.

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter – Im pretty sure one of these turns up in my empties posts about every other month! I bloody love this stuff! It smells amazing and is super moisturising, it is definitely one of my favourite products ever!

Repurchase? I still have two more in my stash, but when I run out I definitely will.

Tresemme Salon Sleek Glossing Spray – I loved this! It helped tame fly aways, reduced frizz and added a nice shine to my hair without making it look greasy.

Repurchase? I would do but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere! If I do then yes!

IMG_0182

My Burberry Perfume – another sample Annies mum gave me (I promise I will find time to unpack my perfume collection at some point and stop just using samples)! I really like this, and its way more sophisticated than most perfumes I wear so I ended up using it up pretty quickly! It also lasts all day and I received lots of compliments when wearing it!

Repurchase? I think I actually would you know, and I never buy perfumes!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – my favourite mascara that I reviewed here!

Repurchase? I still have a full sized version on the go, but I will be doing, yes.

Anna Sui Secret Wish perfume – I won’t go on about this, as it just wasn’t the right scent for me. It lasted all day and I am sure it would be lovely on someone else but I just didn’t love it! I also promise I am running out of perfume samples to use up so I will stop boring you with them soon!

Repurchase? Nope.

Black Eyeliner from The Body Shop – I have no idea which Body Shop eyeliner this was, as it lasted so long all the writing rubbed off/I have sharpened it too often! I loved this, but it was finally time to say goodbye to an old faithful friend and admit it was time to retire. It lasted all day and had great colour pay off so it was a winner in my eyes!

Repurchase? I would happily re-buy an eyeliner from The Body Shop, I shall be having a look when I next pop in!

So there we have it, a mixed batch for Octobers empties! Have you guys tried any of these products? If so did you agree with my mini reviews? #twolittleowls

Review: Beach Hair/Salt Sprays – Do They Really Work?

C: I recently decided to invest in a couple of salt sprays for my hair, hoping they would easily give me a natural/beachy hair look. I have a 3 week old baby now so was thinking these would be the perfect way to control my naturally wavy hair and look slightly put together without putting in too much effort! I picked up two different ones, modelled here with my excellent stags head bedding:

IMG_0233

Schwartzkopf got2b beach matt mermaid look texturizing salt spray/the longest name ever – first of all I really like the scent of this, and the spray cap is perfect for spritzing this evenly throughout my thick hair. It also really helped define my waves, so definitely did add texture and tousle… not sure about the body claim as my hair has too much body already. However, this did not in any way tame the frizz, which is fine as it doesn’t claim too… but I can’t use it alone and leave my hair to go wavy as I end up with a terrible frizzy mess after a couple of hours. Not good – although perfect if you don’t have frizzy hair (lucky you)

Tresemme Sea Salt Spray – this actually does the opposite of the Schwartzkopt offering (and incidentally has a super short name, interesting) and reduced frizz but didn’t really add much in terms of defining the natural waves in my hair. It also doesn’t smell as good, which is a shame but you can’t have everything in life apparently. But if you have super curly hair that tends to frizz up this would be great for you to try!

So obviously… they both addressed different aspects of my hair needs, so I tried using both. Definitely not recommended as I ended up with a bit of a sticky mess going on. Therefore, I am afraid my search for the perfect sea salt spray shall continue – although I have been using these up by spraying them in my hair before I plait it and sleep so I have wavy controlled hair anyway!

Do any of you guys have any recommendations on sea salt sprays to try? These two offerings would be perfect for those of you with better controlled hair than mine! Let me know if you agree! #twolittleowls

May’s Empties!

C: Well that is another month that has just flown by. June already? Crazy? I have once again done pretty good this month at using up my stash – I am trying to re-discover old favourites rather than keep spending money as we are saving for my amazing future house!

photo(18)

Vaseline Spray & Go body moisturiser – I won’t go on about this as I recently reviewed it here. I am very sad this has ran out and I will be sneaking a new one in the trolley when I next do my food shopping!

Repurchase? Yes, definitely!

Tresemme Instant Refresh dry shampoo – another product we reviewed here. A dry shampoo that got the job done, but I didn’t like the scent. I was more than happy to use it up though!

Repurchase? No, just because of the scent. Annie would repurchase this though.

Simple Moisturising Facial Wash – I always have a bottle of face wash that I keep in the shower, as there is nothing better than washing your face first thing in the morning to wake yourself up! This was perfect to start off my AM skin care routine as it gently cleaned my skin without irritating it, what more could you want?

Repurchase? Yes! I have a few others I would like to try too though.

Lush, Ultrabland – oh look… another product I have already reviewed for you (click here!). This is my holy grail cleanser. Removes make up, calms down my skin, moisturises and reduces my break outs.

Repurchase? Already done!

Beauty Protector hair oil – I received this sample in my Birchbox and I have enjoyed using it up. I see this more as a leave in conditioner than a hair oil as it doesn’t seem to combat my frizz etc. but it really nourishes my hair and it smells lovely.

Repurchase? Maybe, once I have used up my other hair oils!

Rimmel Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Eyeliner – my favourite eyeliner. I know some people really struggle with liquid eyeliner brushes and prefer a pen but I love this. It is the perfect black and the tiny brush allows for precision/fine lining. It is not waterproof, but as long as you don’t get stuck in the rain/cry at puppys on the TV it lasts all day.

Repurchase? I have done already!

Dry Shampoo: A Review/Comparison

C: so my friend Nadine asked us to do some reviews on the best dry shampoo which made both myself and Annie realise that we had only ever used Batiste and no other brands! So here are the selection we decided to compare:

Image

1. TRESemme Instant Refresh £5.25 for 200ml
A: This product is my favourite dry shampoo. The TRESemme smells really nice and leaves hardly any white residue, although my hair isn’t really dark the residue from dry shampoos still shows. It also volumises and sets you up an extra day so you don’t have to faff with washing so often when you’re feeling lazy!

C: Not my favourite because I didn’t like the smell even though Annie did! It left a little white residue when first sprayed but once you brushed it through you couldn’t see it at all. Would also agree that it also gives good volume and absorbs grease (ew) really well.

2. Phil Smith Wow Brunette £3.50 for 75ml
A: Although I haven’t got brown hair, I gave this a go to test it as I had never used a coloured shampoo before. It does what it says on the tin and also smells really fresh, but obviously for me it was a little dark.

C: This was my favourite. For me dry shampoo is a product you use when you are in a rush and have little time. The coloured aspect was perfect for me as you couldn’t see any product in my hair at all, saving me on valuable brushing/checking for white patches time. It also smelt nice and gave good volume. Perfect. Phil Smith also do a range for red/blonde hair so you can get the colour that is right for you.

3. Bastiste Floral Blush £2.99 for 200ml
A: As I mentioned before, Bastiste is my ‘go-to’ dry shampoo brand and I always thought it was fine to use – but now I’ve used it after trying these other products, it’s not fantastic. Although it smells lovely, that’s really the only thing it has to its advantage. It leaves so much white residue that I might as well go old-school and use talcum powder!! I won’t be buying this in the future.

C: Same as Annie, compared to other products this does seem to leave more white residue, but maybe I will be giving their products for coloured hair a try. I love the scent and their bottles of dry shampoo do seem to last a lot longer/bigger sizes are available.

4. Bastiste Cherry £2.99 for 200ml
A: Pretty much the same as the floral blush but with a cherry scent – again Bastiste always win on how good the products smell, but not much else!!

C: My favourite scent out of all the products, but obviously the same performance as the Floral Blush dry shampoo.

So Annie’s favourite was the Tresemme but mine was the Phil Smith dry shampoo. But what have we learnt?! Don’t just stick to the things you know, there may be better products out there you had never even tried! Amazing! Have you guys tried any of these or ended up just sticking with the most well known brand? #twolittleowlsblog

A Celebratory Haul!

C: Having completed a major milestone in my thesis, I thought I had better treat myself and share with you guys what I got! I have never tried any of these products before, so I will be doing individual reviews once I have tried them all for long enough to get a feel for the products.

Image

1. Phil Smith Wow Brunette Coloured Dry Shampoo – currently on sale in Sainsburys so I got this for about £2.50 (sneaked it in the food shopping trolley!)

2. Tresemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo – also in the sale! My friend Nadine asked us to do a dry shampoo review, and both myself and Annie realised that we had never used any apart from Batiste! So we decided to try some new ones out as per our request (we like getting requests, it makes us feel professional so please do let us know if you want something reviewing/any advice)

3. Carino Professional Miracle Oil with Argan Oil – an Aldi special for £3.99. We recently received a hair oil in our Birchbox and Annie reviewed the avon hair oil here. So we decided to try out some others so we could do some comparison posts soon!

4. Avon Eye Liner Brush £4- I have a current obsession with make up brushes, so I couldn’t resist trying this bargain. I have really really small eye lids, so I am hoping this might help with eye shadow blending – I shall report back.

5. Avon Matte Vernis Top Coat £3 – a matte top coat! This was super popular in LFW14 and is set to be a big trend this Spring so once again I couldn’t say no. We will be doing a review on this by the end of the week once Annie has had a chance to borrow it!

6. Avon Ultra Colour Absolute Lipstick in Pink Renewal £5 – a gorgeous nude/pink lip when its on. I absolutely love this, and bought it in the hope that we might have some nice Spring weather soon. Even if we don’t, at least I’ll have nice lipstick!

Let us know what you think, or if you have tried any of these products already! #twolittleowlsblog
