July’s Empties

C: look how good I am doing at using up my stash/not buying more stuff?! There should be some sort of beauty blogger medal for that… well I’m impressed anyway. So here is what I have been using up this month:

photo(24)

1. Lush Tea Tree Water Toner – I wont go on and on about this as I have reviewed it before here

Repurchase? Yes once I have tried some of the other Lush toners, as I am interested to see if they are as good/better than this one!

2. Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter: yes yes I know… more S&G. I have issues okay? Love this stuff. It smells like Summer and it is super moisturising without making you feel sweaty/greasy.

Repurchase? Already got 2 more tubs to get through!

3. Beauty Protector Shampoo & Conditioner: received these samples in my Birchbox and they were teeny tiny so I only got one wash out of them, so can’t really comment on their effectiveness/hair saving qualities. They do smell nice though and my hair was clean… which is a winner?

Repurchase? Probably not as i didn’t get to try them properly but I do know other shampoos that work well for me.

4. Vasanti Nutrient Rich Purifying Facial Cleanser: another Birchbox sample that I actually enjoyed using. This did not irritate my sensitive skin and made it feel soft, smooth and clean.

Repurchase? I would do if I didn’t have loads more cleansers to use up/that are on my list to try.

5. Soap & Glory Scrub of Your Life: one of my favourite shower gels. I love the scent and its delicately scrubby… meaning you can use it everyday without irritating your skin but it keeps even elbows and knees soft!

Repurchase? 100% I have withdrawal symptoms already.

what have you lovely readers been using up this month? Let us know! #twolittleowlsblog

Annie’s May favourites

20140531-174618-63978059.jpg
A: Following Chloe’s May Favourites, it’s now my turn to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

My latest Yankee Candle purchase, this is more of a lifestyle choice but I LOVE candles and have them burning all the time. I’ve had a super stressful time since my holiday with exams and study but this has helped keep me calm. It’s Yankee Candle’s Wild Rose. Rose is one of my favourite scents – it reminds me of summer and it’s just so floral and pretty so this candle always puts me in a happy place – and you can never go wrong with a Yankee Candle. I got this from a local outlet too, so it was a bargain at £6.98.

My next favourite is this Avon corrector palette. I mentioned this in a haul post back in April but I haven’t had chance to review it yet. Quite simply, it’s brilliant. It has four different colour concealers which cover all of your cover up needs. I have really spot prone skin, so I need a good balance of concealers at all times. I have used the yellow one the most, as you can probably see – because it reduces redness. The orange is for dark circles, the pink is to act as a highlighter and the beige is a standard concealer. The palette comes with a small concealer brush which fits in the compact nicely and has a sturdy lid which isn’t likely to break easily. The consistency of the products are all the same and apply really well, without being clumpy or too drying but it is still long lasting. The only thing that would make this perfect would be to have a mirror on the inside of the lid. It was in a flash sale when I purchased it for £6.00 but you can buy it here for £10.50.

The next product, I have reviewed briefly before. It’s The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Facial Wash. I have been using this for a month now and I have fallen in love. Tea Tree has natural healing abilities so it’s perfect for those pesky blemishes. I use it morning and night, before applying and after removing my make up. It smells lovely although it does smell strongly of erm… tea tree. It lathers really well when you massage it into your face, and washes off easily, and it’s worked wonders for my pores! I did expect it to be drying but it isn’t at all, it’s cleansing and soothing. I do have sensitive skin but it hasn’t affected it in a bad way and my face feels super clean after I’ve used it. You can find it here for £5.00. Bargain!

Okay I’ve saved the best till last. I was lucky enough to receive this MAC lipstick for my birthday in matte Taupe. I can’t tell you how much I love this. The colour is beautiful and so wearable, although I obviously save it for special occasions! It’s super long lasting and has a really creamy texture, which is unusual for such a matte colour. Matte lipstick is my favourite and I have bought quite a lot (too many!!) but this is the best consistency by far. All I can say is if you haven’t got a MAC lipstick already, you should definitely treat yourself. You won’t regret it, they are little beauties.

The Tea Tree Range from The Body Shop: first thoughts

20140524-185133-67893318.jpg

A: firstly, apologies for the picture but it was too funny to not use. Ted was not impressed with me for trying to use the last of today’s sunlight to get a photo, I had to move him from his favourite sleeping place. Anyway, on to the serious business.
I featured these three beauties in haul post earlier this week (see it here), and I thought I should give you my first thoughts because I’m super happy with these purchases.

I’ve used tea tree oil before, because it’s anti-bacterial, it’s a well known aid to help healing those pesky blemishes. I hadn’t ever used any other tea tree products but The Body Shop had a flash sale on last week with 40% off – practically free, so I decided to take the plunge.
I chose the facial wash, the exfoliator and the blemish fade night lotion.
I’ve been using the facial wash morning and night now since Wednesday and I can see a difference already in my skin. My pores look smaller (whether they are or not I don’t know….) and my face feels fresh and clean. The tea tree is fairly strong in this product, but I like that because it feels like I’m giving my skin a really deep clean without drying it out. After I’ve used the wash in the evening, I use the blemish lotion. This is a perfect accompaniment to the facial wash as it is like a soothing gel which sinks into your skin instantly. The tea tree is mild in this and acts in a cooling way, rather than harsh like some other tea tree products. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and moisturised – perfect.
Lastly, the exfoliator. I have only used this twice – it isn’t something I would use more than twice a week because it’s what I’d call a ‘super exfoliator’. The tea tree is really strong in this and it can feel a little harsh, but it does make your skin feel like you’ve removed every last scrap of make up and virtually brand new and squeaky clean.

All in all, I am SO happy with this range. I really struggle with break outs but (not wanting to jinx it) this seems to be keeping them at bay, so fingers crossed! I love buying stuff from The Body Shop too because it makes me feel good, and like I’m supporting a company that looks after the planet.

Have you tried the tea tree range from The Body Shop? #twolittleowls

A Tuesday haul.

20140520-200408-72248083.jpgA: so I got paid today, which means only one thing – haul day!!

First of all, my Body Shop delivery came. I was super excited about this as they had 40% off so I got these three items for £15. Bargain! I had pretty troublesome skin recently, so I thought I would revert back to my old favourite of tea tree oil – big style.
I chose the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash, the Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub and the Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion. I have always got on well with tea tree oil, but I haven’t used other tea tree products, so I will be reviewing these soon as I am going to start using them tonight!

I also made a quick trip to our local outlet shopping centre today, I needed some new clothes for work for these warm, sunny days but I really hate buying work clothes. I work in an office and have a lot of meetings with clients so I have to look fairly smart – not an easy task when it’s as got as it had been this week!

I found these amazing dresses that only cost £9 each! They are simple, fitted midi dresses, one in navy and one in green. It took me a while to find them because there’s a lot of not-so-cool stuff at the shopping centre but once you find something good, it’s usually a bargain! I also got this lovely maroon and gold necklace for just £2 and some maroon leggings for £5!

Successful haul day I think! I did get one more amazing bargain dress, but I’ll save that for on ootd because it’s beautiful!!

What have you even buying recently? #twolittleowls

Lush Skincare: Tea Tree Water

C: I previously reviewed the Ultrabland cleanser that I bought in my recent Lush haul (have a quick scroll through our previous posts to find it!). So it is now time for part 2: tea tree water toner water.

20140318-171714.jpg

This toner retails at £3.95 for 100g which I think is an absolute bargain! In my experience toners last me ages and after both me and L (my lesser half) using it for a few weeks we have only used about a quarter. Perfect for someone looking for good quality skin care on a budget.

So what does this do? Lush describes this as follows : “comes to the aid of skin that has emergencies. Tea tree is a wonder antibacterial, antiseptic and anti microbial ingredient for anyone with oily or spot prone skin.” To use this you can either spray directly onto the skin (closing your eyes is recommended) or spritz on to cotton wool to help wipe away dirt.

Both myself and L really liked this toner. It is the first time I have used a toner that has helped remove the last traces of dirt and make up from my skin and leaves my face feeling refreshed and clean. I thought that the tea tree would be too strong for my sensitive skin but this did not aggravate my eczema whilst still giving a thorough clean! It also helped reduce the appearance of L’s blemishes as well as stop others from appearing.

Have you tried this toner or any of Lush’s other Skincare products? #twolittleowlsblog

A Lush Skincare Haul

C: I used to always buy Lush skincare products (and be a mystery shopper for them – so much fun!) but in my hurry to try new products and brands I haven’t used their skincare recently. I was inspired to do so last weekend whilst talking to my friend Beth who worked for Lush in one of their factories in Vancouver. She was telling me how natural the products are and which were her favourites to use, so I went out and got some today (I actually went to Lincoln to do some Uni work but got distracted by shopping instead – its happened to the best of us). So here’s what I got:

Image

1. Tea Tree Water – £3.95 for 100ml. Recommended by the very nice lady in the store for problem skin. I’m a little concerned that this might be too harsh for my sensitive skin, but as its all natural I’m hoping it will work for me!

2. Grease Lightning – £5.95 for 45g – I saw a review of this on whatshedoesnow ‘s blog and just had to get it.

3. Ultrabland – £6.95 for 45g – I always used to use this and it is the perfect cleanser for sensitive skin. It removes even waterproof make-up and makes your skin feel super duper clean!

I will be doing a proper review for all of these items once I have used them for long enough to see any effects they have had on my skin! Hope you have enjoyed the post, we haven’t done much on skincare previously so let us know if you would be interested! #twolittleowlsblog
