Chloes September Empties

C: HAPPY DUE DATE MONTH TO MEEEE! And anyway… moving quickly on (hopefully I will have a nice gory detail labour post on its way to you soon), welcome to Septembers empties! Since moving house I have had a chance to look through my stash and select the half used products I wanted rid of. Not because I didn’t like them, but because they were already opened and needed using up. So this month I have exceeded my usual 5-6 monthly empties and have used up a whole 10 products! Because there are more than usual, I have split the photos up a bit to make my mini empty reviews easier to follow! So here we go:

Stretch Mark/Baby Related Stuff

IMG_0112

Palmers Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks – this is the lotion I have enjoyed using the most, mainly because despite having a slight clinical use it actually still smells nice. Even though pregnancy sucks and all dignity is out the window, I still like being able to pamper myself and use products that seem at least slightly normal. This also keeps skin soft and supple so it can stretch without being itchy and horrid.

Repurchase? I already have!

Bio Oil – the jury is still out on this one, I think it has stopped my stretch marks from looking as red etc (they look like old ones rather than new ones really), but I don’t know how much it has prevented them so I maybe should just save this to use after labour!

Repurchase? Yep!

Derma Mum Superior Moisturising Cream – I reviewed this here so won’t bore you all with another review!

Repurchase? Not now as it’s such a large tub.

Montagne Jeunesse Face Masks

IMG_0114

Blemish Mud – I absolutely loved this, and reviewed this in full here if you fancy a goosey

Repurchase? Hella yeah!

Passion Peel Off – this made my skin feel super soft and moisturised and did do a good job of calming my skin down, but the peely-ness just isn’t for me. It felt horrid to peel off and freaked me out/made my teeth itch. I know thats weird… but no thanks. Not for me.

Repurchase? Not a peel one no!

Hair Care

IMG_0115

Batiste Dry Shampoo – not my fave dry shampoo but gets the job done – albeit with a slight white haze that needs lots of brushing through!

Repurchase? I always seem too! Although I have another bottle in my stash waiting to be used before I buy anymore!

Loreal Elvive Nutri-Gloss Shampoo sachet – I got this free in a magazine and thought it was about time I used it up rather than stashing it for some unknown occasion! I liked the smell of this, and it certainly made my hair soft and shiny but obviously its hard to tell how amazing a shampoo is from one go!

Repurchase? I would quite happily use this again.

Body Wash/Perfume

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish – I recently re-bought the full sized version of this in my Body Shop Haul post here, so you can tell I liked it!

Repurchase? Already have!

Soap & Glory The Scrub of Your Life – this is one of my absolute favourite S&G body products. It has the standard S&G scent, but is super exfoliating at the same time. However, it is also really gentle and can be used daily, as it doesn’t even upset my super sensitive skin. Winner!

Repurchase? I have a full sized version of this in my stash waiting for me, but after thats used up I will definitely be buying another!

Calvin Klein Euphoria Blossom Perfume – yes you have read that right… I have actually given in and finished up a perfume! Normally I leave the last few pumps for special occasions as I have perfume separation anxiety, but I went all out and used this up! I bloody love this, its floral but not too old-lady-esque and the scent lasts all day.

Repurchase? this shall be on my Christmas list for Santa!

And there we have this months empties! Hope you like my mini reviews! #twolittleowls

Baby Diaries: Do Stretch Mark Oils/Creams Really Work?

C: stretch marks… not pretty but probably one of those pregnancy things that everyone worries about at least a little bit? Pregnancy is a beautiful thing (in theory/for outsiders who don’t have to deal with the nasty little side effects our beautiful babies cause our poor bodies) but no one wants a body of stretch marks that last forever – even if they do fade eventually. The difficult thing is the number of products on the market, some of which are quite frankly extortionate in price. So the real question is… do they work? In my experience, I am afraid the answer is nope! And after a little research this seems to be the case for most people.

I have tried several creams/oils that are widely available, and have been using them twice daily since the start of the second trimester, so since like week 12. And I am afraid to say, despite the major “lubing up” as the boyfriend delightfully calls this lengthy twice daily process I still have stretch marks. Now admittedly, I have watched one born every minute and spoken to my midwife about it, and my stretch marks are no where near as bad as other peoples. They are all very thin lines, and are mostly just on my hips rather than all the way across my new beer belly which I am super pleased about. But they are still there.

Would they have been worse if I havent used these creams? Who knows. I am afraid I can’t comment on that, I was far too scared of the dreaded stretch marks to risk not using them! After a little research I found that apparently stretch marks are hereditary…. which also seems to be a lie as my mother informed me she didn’t get any (and my father butted in, informing me his actual beer belly is still beautifully clear of stretch marks – inserted lolling emojis here). In fact, my midwife has told me that 90% of ladies get stretch marks. NINETY PERCENT. That is basically everyone.

So my recommendation? Both of these creams made my skin more supple and moisturised, meaning I haven’t had an itchy tummy whilst it has stretched, and if nothing more it is a way of pre-bonding with your beautiful baby via a little massage. As far as the bio-oil goes, I shall report back on how quickly my marks fade after they have finished stretching, but so far they haven’t gone bright red and look like old ones already, so I am feeling positive! But to cut a long story short? If you are gonna get them…. It’s going to happen no matter what! So my advice is to be prepared and not worry about it, your life isn’t over and they will fade eventually!

Any preggo bloggers out there found the same thing? #twolittleowls

A Pregnancy Skincare Essential/Holy Grail!

C: I don’t know about other pregnant beauties, but one of my concerns (around myself, not the baby – the babies health is obviously most important!) is having a whole body of stretch marks! I am literally on daily stretch mark alert and make L check too! Poor man. So I did a little research into what exactly causes stretch marks and therefore what skincare products to focus on.

Now clearly stretch marks are caused by your skin stretching… but what makes that worse? Dry skin. Dry skin isn’t as supple, and will not stretch as nicely as lovely hydrated skin. Plus dry skin is super itchy as it stretches and no one wants that. So whilst out baby shopping (buying things in miniature is so much fun) I kept having a little goosey at skincare and eventually picked up this:

I got this Derma Mum Superior Moisturising Stretch Mark Cream from Babies are us for about £6. It is a massive 500ml tub which I can see lasting me until the end of my pregnancy – although lets already state that I will be repurchasing this if I run out! It is a thick, white cream that requires a lot of rubbing in but does sink into the skin nicely once warmed up. It doesn’t smell of anything lovely… just slightly like aqueous cream or something similar which can easily be disguised by a little perfume/body spray.

Now just look at the ingredients: Rose Hip, Evening Primrose, Shea and Cocoa Butters. It was seeing the ingredients that decided the purchase for me! All ingredients that are good for your skin and okay to use whilst preggo. Now since using this all of my dry skin has disappeared, I still haven’t got any stretch marks even though baby has decided to go through a sudden growth spurt and that itchy stretched skin feeling has disappeared. Perfect.

So if pregnant, have very dry skin, or you are loosing/gaining weight (which can lead to stretch marks too unfortunately!) I would 100% recommend this! It truly is amazing! I shall add a little update to my post when super preggo to let you all know whether the stretch marks are still banished! #twolittleowls
