Review: Organic Surge Eye Gel

A: This was another Pink Parcel goody I received last month, and after both Chloe and I using it morning and night for the last two weeks we’ve decided to share our thoughts on it with you.

I don’t have problems with dark circles or puffiness (unless I’ve had a super late night with too much wine…) but I do like to use an eye gel, mainly cause it feels nice! The pump action on this is perfect and works really well – and the product is smooth and cooling to use. The gel is silky and not sticky at all – which I have come across before with eye gels. It doesn’t really have a scent, to be honest it does smell a little clinical which I was surprised about because Organic Surge use 100% natural products. I love their Face Polish (which I reviewed here), but to be totally honest I’m neither here nor there with this product. Whether that’s because I just don’t have a need for an eye gel, or because this one hasn’t wowed me I’m not sure. I also think it’s pretty pricey, at £9.95 for just 15 ml.

C: I agree with Annie in that the pump action works really well, and the product is lovely and cooling to use. However, I do suffer with puffiness in my tiny eye area so can comment a little more on its effectiveness rather than just its pleasantness to use! Since being preggo I literally cannot sleep enough, so have been suffering with dark circles and puffiness and this has really helped. Especially by applying first thing in the morning whilst I am still in bed, as by the time I get up I almost look normal! It also provides a lovely base on which to apply concealer/foundation in order to cover up those dark circles even more. So for me, this product is totally worth the pennies! If you don’t have puffiness/dark circles then this product isn’t for you – please comment below and inform Annie that she doesn’t need it and should allow me to keep it, thanks!

Review: Holly Go Lightly Bubble Bar from Lush

A: Chloe got me this bubble bar for Christmas, and I’ve been saving it for a worthy enough use, which came on Friday night after my rather stressful week.

Firstly, it looks beautiful. All that glitter makes for a pretty happy bathtime. As soon as you start crumbling this under warm running water, it smells amazing. Cinnamon and Orange scents which perfectly sum up Christmas. I am a little sad I didn’t use this over the festive period because it smells so Christmassy – but it still made me happy using it in March. The glitter can been seen in the water, which turns bright green – but don’t worry, the glitter is so fine that it doesn’t stick to you!

Bubble bars are my favourite from Lush because I do like a proper bubbly bath, and this one didn’t disappoint. And I felt instantly relaxed, which is exactly what I needed. It made my skin feel heavenly, soft and silky, conditioned and luxurious as a bonus. What more could you want?

Embroylisse Lait-Crème Concentrate: a review

A: I received this in my June Birchbox and I thought it was about time a shared a review with you all.

embryoliss-lait-concentre_1_

So what do Birchbox say about this product?

“Take a peek in any make-up artist’s kit and you’ll spy a well-loved tube of Embryolisse’s cult Lait-Crème Concentre. Since we’re just as picky as the pros, you’d better believe we’re fans too. This velvety moisturiser is rich without being heavy and gives skin the ultimate silky finish, thanks to generous amounts of soothing shea butter and aloe vera. It absorbs quickly without any residue. Plus, it doubles as a makeup remover, post-shave soother and all-over body lotion. Who says beauty isn’t practical?”

I’ve been using this for just over a month now and I’m quite picky about moisturisers so this is pretty good going. It has a really thin texture which I like in a moisturiser and the shea butter keeps my skin super hydrated throughout the day and feels lovely, plus it acts as a primer so for those everyday make-up looks, you don’t have to use product after product and can let your skin breathe throughout the day. My sample was pretty small so I couldn’t use it as an all-over body lotion like Birchbox suggest, but I did use it to remove my make up once or twice and it worked really well which I was surprised about – we all know how stubborn ‘they’re real’ can be!

I was hoping it would help with my break-out situation that seems to be going on and on forever. Although it hasn’t reduced my break-outs, it hasn’t made them worse either –  I have had a pretty stressful month with exams so I’m inclined to forgive it of this one. But I do have sensitive skin and this has been really good for soothing because it’s scent free and doesn’t cause any irritation = happy Annie!

Overall, I’m really happy with this as a moisturiser/make-up remover/primer – Birchbox have done good! I hadn’t heard of this brand before and it is renowned as a cult classic in virtually all of it’s reviews so I’m really excited to have discovered it.

It’s priced at £12.99 for 30ml on the Birchbox website, which I think is pretty reasonable for such a multi-use product. I’m pretty sure it’s helped me decide on what to spend those lovely Birchbox points on!

What do you think to this beauty must-have?

The Tea Tree Range from The Body Shop: first thoughts

20140524-185133-67893318.jpg

A: firstly, apologies for the picture but it was too funny to not use. Ted was not impressed with me for trying to use the last of today’s sunlight to get a photo, I had to move him from his favourite sleeping place. Anyway, on to the serious business.
I featured these three beauties in haul post earlier this week (see it here), and I thought I should give you my first thoughts because I’m super happy with these purchases.

I’ve used tea tree oil before, because it’s anti-bacterial, it’s a well known aid to help healing those pesky blemishes. I hadn’t ever used any other tea tree products but The Body Shop had a flash sale on last week with 40% off – practically free, so I decided to take the plunge.
I chose the facial wash, the exfoliator and the blemish fade night lotion.
I’ve been using the facial wash morning and night now since Wednesday and I can see a difference already in my skin. My pores look smaller (whether they are or not I don’t know….) and my face feels fresh and clean. The tea tree is fairly strong in this product, but I like that because it feels like I’m giving my skin a really deep clean without drying it out. After I’ve used the wash in the evening, I use the blemish lotion. This is a perfect accompaniment to the facial wash as it is like a soothing gel which sinks into your skin instantly. The tea tree is mild in this and acts in a cooling way, rather than harsh like some other tea tree products. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and moisturised – perfect.
Lastly, the exfoliator. I have only used this twice – it isn’t something I would use more than twice a week because it’s what I’d call a ‘super exfoliator’. The tea tree is really strong in this and it can feel a little harsh, but it does make your skin feel like you’ve removed every last scrap of make up and virtually brand new and squeaky clean.

All in all, I am SO happy with this range. I really struggle with break outs but (not wanting to jinx it) this seems to be keeping them at bay, so fingers crossed! I love buying stuff from The Body Shop too because it makes me feel good, and like I’m supporting a company that looks after the planet.

Clinique Haul!

clinique1

A: so today was a pretty mementous day, I lost my Clinique virginity. I know, I’ve only ever used Chloe’s left over samples but I have had such bad skin recently that I thought I ought to take the plunge! The saleswoman was so helpful at my local Boots shop and knew exactly what I needed to help my skin. I opted for the anti-blemish solutions 3-step-system which has 3 products; a cleansing foam, a clarifying lotion and an all over clearing treatment. I also went for the anti-blemish clearing gel because I’ve used this in the past and loved it. But even more exciting than that; I got a free gift because I bought two items! This is an exclusive Clinique Bonus Time offer that Boots are running in store until 29th of March and it’s amazing!

clinique 2

I got so many extra goodies that all came in the really cute tin, I can’t wait to use them all and let you know what I think to them!

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel

A: hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday! Today’s post is about my new found skin saviour. Chloe has been going on about this product from Clinique for ages – but I didn’t want to spend lots of money on it in case it wasn’t right for me. I have oily, dry and spotty skin with massive bucket pores – I’m so lucky!! I really struggle to find good moisturisers that work, sometimes I have to resort the the old faithful E45, but I can’t use this all the time because like a lot of moisturisers it is really thick and can be too much for my skin. Chloe got bored of me moaning about my skin all the time so she let me have a sample of her Clinique dramatically different moisturising gel.

20140309-165335.jpg

As you can see, I’ve nearly ran out – but I ordered some more online today because I love it! I hadn’t tried a moisturising gel before, but this is perfect for combination skin. It soothes dry patches but because it’s oil free you won’t wake up with a shiny t-zone. It’s also really helped with clearing up my blemishes and preventing any new outbreaks. Chloe can suffer from eczema too and she did say to me that this can dry up any eczema patches she has on her face over night – bonus! The cheapest I have been able to find it is here for £17, but this is for 50ml. In my opinion, that’s a pretty good price to pay for blemish free (fingers crossed) skin!

I have ordered Avons version of this to try, it is a lot cheaper – just £4.50 for 100ml! I’ll keep you updated with a comparison as soon as I’ve tested it. #twolittleowls
