Chloes September Empties

C: HAPPY DUE DATE MONTH TO MEEEE! And anyway… moving quickly on (hopefully I will have a nice gory detail labour post on its way to you soon), welcome to Septembers empties! Since moving house I have had a chance to look through my stash and select the half used products I wanted rid of. Not because I didn’t like them, but because they were already opened and needed using up. So this month I have exceeded my usual 5-6 monthly empties and have used up a whole 10 products! Because there are more than usual, I have split the photos up a bit to make my mini empty reviews easier to follow! So here we go:

Stretch Mark/Baby Related Stuff

IMG_0112

Palmers Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks – this is the lotion I have enjoyed using the most, mainly because despite having a slight clinical use it actually still smells nice. Even though pregnancy sucks and all dignity is out the window, I still like being able to pamper myself and use products that seem at least slightly normal. This also keeps skin soft and supple so it can stretch without being itchy and horrid.

Repurchase? I already have!

Bio Oil – the jury is still out on this one, I think it has stopped my stretch marks from looking as red etc (they look like old ones rather than new ones really), but I don’t know how much it has prevented them so I maybe should just save this to use after labour!

Repurchase? Yep!

Derma Mum Superior Moisturising Cream – I reviewed this here so won’t bore you all with another review!

Repurchase? Not now as it’s such a large tub.

Montagne Jeunesse Face Masks

IMG_0114

Blemish Mud – I absolutely loved this, and reviewed this in full here if you fancy a goosey

Repurchase? Hella yeah!

Passion Peel Off – this made my skin feel super soft and moisturised and did do a good job of calming my skin down, but the peely-ness just isn’t for me. It felt horrid to peel off and freaked me out/made my teeth itch. I know thats weird… but no thanks. Not for me.

Repurchase? Not a peel one no!

Hair Care

IMG_0115

Batiste Dry Shampoo – not my fave dry shampoo but gets the job done – albeit with a slight white haze that needs lots of brushing through!

Repurchase? I always seem too! Although I have another bottle in my stash waiting to be used before I buy anymore!

Loreal Elvive Nutri-Gloss Shampoo sachet – I got this free in a magazine and thought it was about time I used it up rather than stashing it for some unknown occasion! I liked the smell of this, and it certainly made my hair soft and shiny but obviously its hard to tell how amazing a shampoo is from one go!

Repurchase? I would quite happily use this again.

Body Wash/Perfume

IMG_0116

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish – I recently re-bought the full sized version of this in my Body Shop Haul post here, so you can tell I liked it!

Repurchase? Already have!

Soap & Glory The Scrub of Your Life – this is one of my absolute favourite S&G body products. It has the standard S&G scent, but is super exfoliating at the same time. However, it is also really gentle and can be used daily, as it doesn’t even upset my super sensitive skin. Winner!

Repurchase? I have a full sized version of this in my stash waiting for me, but after thats used up I will definitely be buying another!

Calvin Klein Euphoria Blossom Perfume – yes you have read that right… I have actually given in and finished up a perfume! Normally I leave the last few pumps for special occasions as I have perfume separation anxiety, but I went all out and used this up! I bloody love this, its floral but not too old-lady-esque and the scent lasts all day.

Repurchase? this shall be on my Christmas list for Santa!

And there we have this months empties! Hope you like my mini reviews! #twolittleowls

Chloe’s December Empties!

C: Another month of empties for you today! I’m glad you are all enjoying these as much as I enjoy writing them/using up my stash! We received so much positive feedback last month, so thank you so much! So anyway… enough of the soppy-ness. Lets get cracking.

photo-30

1. No7 Speed Dry Nail Colour in Grey Skies 2 – now you guys may know that I love No7! I think they are so under appreciated, I love their skincare, make up and nail polishes (I may accidentally have a very large collection). I am sad to see this beauty go, dark grey is one of my favourite nail looks as it is just so sophisticated and suits any occasion. The formula is also easy to apply nicely, doesn’t chip for a good few days and is generally lovely.

Repurchase? Definitely if they still do this colour!

2. Eyeko Liquid Eyeliner in Black – so much hype around this product for seemingly no reason! Apparently its Alexa Chungs favourite eye liner, which is lovely for her as she is rich and can afford to buy a new one each week! This literally dries out and becomes unusable in days. Combine that with a difficult to apply formula that is very faint on my lids… not a winner for me!

Repurchase? no!

3. N. 4 Lumiere D’Hiver Super Comb Prep + Protect – a sample I received in my Birchbox that I was looking forward to trying but wasn’t amazed by. It does help detangle my hair, and helped to reduce frizz but I just couldn’t stand the scent! I wouldn’t even know how to describe it to you all… but its a strange smell for a beauty product anyway!

Repurchase? I much prefer my Beauty Protector Detangler so no!

4. Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo – another Birchbox sample that was super handy to keep in my swimming bag! I really enjoyed this, but as I have so much hair it only lasted for two washes, so I really couldn’t comment on any large difference it made to my hair. It smelt nice and made my hair feel soft and clean though!

Repurchase? I would have preferred to try the conditioner with the shampoo… but all the same, yes. I would happily use this again

A mixed set of reviews today! Have any of you guys tried these products? #twolittleowls

Review: Hair Culture Deep Cleansing Shampoo and Conditioner

A: I have been debating on whether or not to write this post for a while now, but I feel like I owe it to you all to tell you these amazing products. They aren’t your usual brand though and actually come from Aldi – not a shop at the top of every beauty bloggers list!

IMG_0026.JPG

About a year ago, I spotted their shampoo and conditioner, which is in look-a-like Tresemme packaging, and I decided to buy them for my boyfriend; he usually steals my favourite shower products so I thought I’d let him have the cheap stuff and I could carry on using my expensive products… But one day I gave them ago and was so surprised by their quality for the price you pay. The Hair Culture Professional Quality Shampoo and Conditioners are just £1.99 for a whole litre of product. A massive bargain! They are so lovely to use because they have such a clean and light texture – I do find that some shampoos with lots of nice smells and extra products to boost shine can leave my hair feeling a bit lank and heavy. These do the total opposite and make my hair super soft and shiny, without any crazy added volume (deffo don’t need any help with that). They also smell so good, without being too overpowering – just fresh and clean. The shampoo is super sleek but doesn’t make your hair greasy at all, and the conditioner is lovely and creamy – but not heavy. Also, the package is perfect. No whistles and bells, just easy to use flip lids that let you use all of the product.

I can’t talk these products up enough, and I really would recommend you heading to your local Aldi to give them a go, you can’t go very wrong with £1.99 each, and they have one for coloured hair too for the same price. I use both of these as my long-term hair care products, and they have saved me a fortune! Plus my boyfriend really likes them too, proof that although they may not be amazing for every hair-type, they are so good for both of ours – and our hair-types are very different from eachother.

Have you tried either of these before? #twolittleowlsblog

The New Feature: Beauty Snooping

C: so something new for you all today… basically I had the genius idea to snoop round other peoples bathroom and see what beauty products they use. I love looking at what other people use, as its great for getting new ideas for products and I’m super nosey. So now I have an excuse for being nosey as well as spending money, as its “for the blog”. Obviously, not many people want me looking through their bathrooms… so I am starting with my mother. She doesn’t know I have done this, so lets be super glad she doesn’t read this and hope my sister doesn’t tell her. Okay. Lets get started!

photo 1-13

Every year my mum says she doesn’t know what she wants for Christmas, so every year my dad gets her Estee Lauder perfume and the matching body lotion. Then every year she says “oh what a lovely surprise, I wasn’t expecting anything”, when clearly she knew she would get this bad boy. Don’t you just love parents? I love the smell of this, but its too “mature” for me just because it reminds me of my mum and I have a mental age of about 12 years so I like to smell like sweets. The body lotion is lovely though, it sinks in very quickly and is delicately scented (I use a bit every time I visit).

photo 2-15

Next up we have the Clinique 3 Step system, my mum has always used this and the Dramatically different moisturising gel is still my Holy Grail moisturiser. Obviously mums know best, and I won’t bang on about these as we posted a review here.

photo 3-6

Lastly (she doesn’t wear make up, she is “beautiful enough without” apparently) we have Green Peoples Shampoo & Conditioner. She loves this, she said that this is perfect for her sensitive scalp as it doesn’t irritate her so she can use it every day. Obviously for research purposes I had to try these out whilst I was at my parental’s and I loved them. They are unscented, which is strange at first but actually quite pleasant to use. My hair felt fresh and clean, didn’t get greasy the next day and was perfect for my sensitive skin. Unfortunately she might be right once again, so I might have to purchase these for myself!

Hope you guys like this post, will be having a search through the mother in laws stash soon if I am allowed. So there will be more make up items featured! Let us know what you think #twolittleowls

July Birchbox: Sun, Sea & Sand

C: I received my Birchbox yesterday, and I finally had a chance to look through it properly today! So here’s what I got:

photo(21)

LAQA & CO SHEER LIP LUBE PENCIL IN MENATOUR. Full size is £14.00, sample value is £7.57. Now don’t get me wrong, I love receiving lip products in my beauty boxes but purple?! The majority of people will not wear a purple lip colour (myself probably included) so you would think they would send a more neutral colour out? Anyway, rant over. Quite looking forward to trying this out/maybe a purple FOTD!!

ULTRADEX ORAL SPRAY. Full size which is worth £3.65. Probably the item I was most excited over, the only full size product and apparently just the lifestyle extra?! Maybe I’m weird, but who doesn’t like fresh breath! Have already tried this, and first impressions are good.

BALANCE ME WONDER EYE CREAM. Full size is £20, sample value is £9.33. A good sized sample for an eye cream and a brand I have had good experiences with in the past! I’m a bit dubious about trying another eye cream as usually my sensitive skin hates them, but I will try this and report back!

WHISH THREE WISHES LAVENDER BODY BUTTER. Full size is £14.50, sample value is £2.13. A brand I have never heard of and I love the smell of Lavender!

GILCHRIST & SOAMES ENGLISH SPA SEA KELP EXTRACT MINERAL BATH. Full size is £11.25, sample value is £1.90. Despite the sample value I still think this is a pretty good sample size for such a well known brand. Just a shame I don’t have a bath (yet! new house soon hopefully!!)

WELEDA MILLT NOURISHING SHAMPOO. Full size is £8.95, sample value is £0.85. A brand we have had several times before and a small size sample. Will be put to good use in my gym bag though I am sure!

So the total value of this months box is £25.43 which for a £12.95 box is amazing! Despite some of the small sample sizes and repetition of some brands I am pretty please with this box. I also like the Summery theme this month and I can see how all the products relate to this… apart from maybe the breath freshener. I would like to think people like fresh breath all year round! What did you guys think of this months Birchbox? #twolittleowlsblog

May Birchbox Review

A & C: we were super excited to receive our Birchbox’s today, and we both got the same goodies so we thought we should do a joint review.

Image

So firstly, the box is beautiful. The theme this month is the Great Outdoors, and the ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ print is really bright and colourful. The beauty guide this month is full of inspirational looks which use the products in the box so you can re-create them yourself. Perfect for Birchbox’s Share + Win competition to get involved in sharing pictures of how our samples help you enjoy the great outdoors. Chloe and I have some epic ideas for this so please follow our Instagram account else you will be missing out majorly!

So to the box contents…

1. Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil, sample size 3ml £2.13 (full size 55ml £39)

Annie thinks this smells lovely but Chloe thinks it smells like the stuff her mum used on her hair when she had nits…. anyway, we really like the fact that it’s dual use and can be used in the shower or the bath. We’ve used quite a few samples from this brand, and it is a high end product so we are both looking forward to using it (Chloe will just have to hold her nose).

2. Beauty Protector Protect & Shampoo Protect & Condition, sample sizes 30ml £1.86 each (full size 225ml £14 each)

Okay we both like the smell of this, first time ever. These are a Birchbox exclusive, and are a brand that appear a lot in Birchbox’s but this is the first time that both a shampoo and conditioner have been included. We were both happy about this because it gives you a chance to use both products to their full potential, however the size of the sample is pretty small and we both have quite a lot of hair so we will probably only get to use these twice and that’s if we are being careful.

3. Liz Earle Beauty Co. Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, sample size 30ml £3.98 (full size 100ml £13.25)

There’s been crazy amounts of hype about the Liz Earle brand, especially the Hot Cloth Cleansers so we were really excited to see this in the spoiler. This cult cleanser ‘leaves skin perfectly cleansed and prepped. The muslin cloth and polish ensure a beautiful glow’ so we are obviously super eager to use it. We will be reviewing this as soon as we have both used it as part of our routine so keep following to see what all fuss is about!

4. Soigne Nail Lacquer, full size £11 (yay!)

The most important thing about this is that the packaging is amazing. Like really amazing. It makes you feel like you’ve received a really high end product, and we all love that feeling. We both received the Persimmon colour which is an amazing deep orange (it matches Annie’s hair which is an added bonus). Both of us have ridiculous nail varnish collections, and this is a new brand so it is a perfect addition for us.

5. Benefit They’re Real Mascara, sample size 3g (full size 8.5g £19.50)

Chloe swears by this mascara, and reviewed it here a couple of months ago but it isn’t one that Annie’s used before. She actually bought some from the duty free on the plane home from her holiday yesterday because Chloe kept telling her how good it was, so we are both happy because we’ve now got enough mascara to last us forever, and it’s Benefit. Win.

So we both were really pleased with this months box, it contained a great mix of products (and we are always happy when we get a full size ginger nail varnish). The total value of the box is £27.88 which is really good considering it only cost £12.95 including postage and packing! If you are thinking of signing up please use this link (click here) and we will both get £5 worth of points to spend in the online shop. If you sign up before the end of the month you will also receive May’s box which will contain similar items to these!
