Annie’s Updated Evening Routine

A: We have both posted about and morning and evening routines before, but that was a while ago now and mine have changed massively so I thought I would let you know what my new routine is.

I have always struggled with blemishes and spots; and yes this is super annoying, but I do not suffer with dry, oily, greasy, patchy skin or dark circles so I am quite lucky in that respect. I have tried SO many products which are supposed to help with spots and blemishes but to be honest, it is a minefield. There are so many products out there that you begin to drown in them, and I had resigned myself to a life of bad skin. I’ve tried The Body Shop, Clinique, Liz Earle, Freederm, Clearsil, Boots own and any other brand I could find. Toners, cleansers, clearing solutions, pore refiners, clarifying lotions, foams, exfoliants, serums, gels… the list is endless. They all appear to start off really well but the end result is always the same. A vicious circle of bad skin, fixing the bad skin and waiting for spots to stop appearing, clear skin for one day and bad skin again. This circle has been going on for a over year now without a break and the stress of it doesn’t help either – I’m sure there’s so many out there that can sympathise and relate to my situation because it totally wears you down.

BUT… I don’t want to speak to soon and I REALLY hope I’m not jinxing it by saying this so putting it in brackets will make it not count – (I think I may have found a routine that works!!!).

The Products

Ultrabland by Lush – £7.25 for 45g

“Based on an ancient Greek formula for cold cream, Ultrabland is beautifully simple and very effective. Made with almond oil, rose water, beeswax and honey, this cleanser removes all traces of dirt and makeup, without stripping away your skin’s natural defences. Smooth over the face, any dirt will cling to the cream and you can remove it with a warm damp cloth or cotton wool. “

A cult classic. For the last 6 weeks I’ve been using Lush’s Ultrabland. I started off by buying a small pot of 45g for £7.25 (see the full post here) but I actually didn’t like it at first. It left my skin feeling greasy the morning after I had used it, something which has never been a problem for me. But then Chloe told me off because apparently I need to remove it and then use a toner #badbeautyblogger. This was all I needed to make Ultrabland ‘work’ for me. Because of it’s natural ingredients, it causes zero irritation to my skin and leaves it feeling clean, soft and totally fresh. I honestly love this product so much because it is so amazingly simple!

Rosewater & Chamomile Gentle Skin Toner by Natio – £6.80 from Birchbox

“Sometimes, considering our penchant for cosmetic experimentation, face wash alone just doesn’t cut it. This is where toner comes in. Natio – a plant-based, gender-neutral skincare range from Down Under – offers a Rosewater & Chamomile variety that gently removes excess oil and makeup while soothing and nourishing the skin.”

I actually panic bought this toner from Birchbox (needed to use my points and didn’t know what to buy but thought I could do with a toner/love rosewater!). This does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s so gently and calming to use, and the rosewater and chamomile smells so good. I can’t recommend this enough if you’re looking for something to soothe you skin and make you feel lovely.

Lacura Intensive Serum Aqua – £3.49 from Aldi

“Skin appears more radiant and youthful.”

So yeah, my moisturiser is from Aldi… Chloe and I actually do most of our shopping at Aldi, and she mentioned she had bought this and said how good it was. So I thought I’d give it a go, but wasn’t expecting anything amazing. This is actually one of the best moisturisers I’ve come across. It’s light, clean and sinks into your skin almost immediately. For £3.49 you really can’t go wrong with it – although it does fly off the shelves now every one has realised how good it is, so if you manage to spot some you should definitely give it a go. And the fact that the blurb is so short on this really sums up the product – it is what it is (I actually did a whole post dedicated to this beauty, just click here to see it).

The Routine

Firstly, I use the Ultrabland all over my face and let it sink into my eye make-up (I wear A LOT of mascara), then gently remove with damp cotton pads. Once it’s all removed, I simply soak a cotton pad in the toner and then apply to my face in circular motions. I normally do this step twice (unless I’m feeling a little lazy). After this I moisturise. There is nothing else to it and this routine is so super simple that it’s not turned into a chore – we all know that dread of being ready for bed but knowing you have to take your make up off properly. It leaves my skin feeling and looking clean, soft and bright. If you have similar skin problems to me, I really do urge you to give this a go – even (especially!) if you’re feeling at a loss of how to solve them, like I was.

What are you skincare holy grails? #twolittleowlsblog

Evening Skincare Routine

C: so yesterday I posted about my morning routine (here) which is quite quick and simple as I would rather spend an extra 10 minutes asleep! So here are the products I use in the evening:

Image

So I start off by cleansing and removing all of my make up with Lush’s Ultrbland (for a full review click here). This stuff is amazing and perfect for any skin type. It removes all make up, is gentle enough to apply to the eye area and it won’t bring you out in spots. What more could you want from a make up remover/cleanser.

Then a couple of times a week I either use the Queen Helene Mint Julep face mask (reviewed here) or Soap & Glory’s Fab Pore mask which I shall be doing a review on very soon. These are both aimed at clearing your pores and masks are a great skin treatment to refresh and deep clean your skin.

Once I have thoroughly removed the mask I use Lush’s Tea Tree Toner. Perfect for anyone with spots/problem skin and this even removes any left over make up.

I then apply a face serum from Aldi (yes Aldi!) called the Multi Intense Serum – Aqua. This stuff gives an extra layer of moisture as well as makes my skin nice and glowy (in a good way).

Lastly I apply my Clinique moisturiser that I mentioned yesterday to make sure I don’t have any horrid dry patches in the morning ready for my make up! Layering up a serum and a moisturiser is brilliant, and works better than just re-applying the moisturiser several times!

So that’s it for my skincare routine! Simple but effective! Obviously some of these products change as I am testing/trying out new things but these are what currently work for me! Let us know what you think! #twolittleowlsblog

Morning Skincare Routine

C: now I am in no way saying that I am a beauty expert, but one thing I do know quite a lot on is skin care. After years of struggling to find products that work for my skin I have tried so many different things (that both work and don’t!). I helped Annie sort out her skin care routine a while ago, so we thought it would be a nice idea to share my routine and products for anyone who is struggling to find a solution for them!

Please keep in mind that I have dry, sensitive skin that is prone too break outs and blocked pores. I think these products would be suitable for anyone with similar skin/problems and will make suggestions for other skin types where I can!

Image

So first up I like to wash my face whilst in the shower and I have been using the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash. This stuff never irritates my skin or causes me to break out in spots, it just gives a nice start to the morning – clean skin! I think this product would be suitable for any type of skin.

Next I use the No7 Beautiful Skin cleansing lotion to make sure all dirt is removed and my skin is thoroughly cleansed (Or the panda eyes from Benefits They’re Real is removed – impossible to get it all off I swear). Once again another product that can be used every day and doesn’t irritate. I am not sure whether this would be too much for someone with oily skin – I would suggest a cleansing lotion or Micellar Water cleanser may be more appropriate but my skin personally needs the moisture.

Every other day instead of the cleansing lotion I use Lush’s Let The Good Times Roll (which we reviewed in full here), which is an exfoliating cleanser. This is so gentle I can use it every other day, removing any dry skin patches and ensuring my foundation applies nicely. Would recommend for any skin type, and it multi tasks as an exfoliator for your body too!

A couple of times a week I use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion. This literally removes every speck of dirt/make up from your face. Even after a double cleanse this bad boy can find some more – genius. This is too strong for using on my skin regularly so I just used it every now and again to clear out my pores. I think this would be perfect for anyone whose skin is less sensitive and if you go to a Clinique counter they will match one to your skin type for you!

Last up is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. I use this every day and it is the only moisturiser I think I will ever use. Its amazing. For a full review please click here.

I hope you have found this post helpful, if you have any questions about these products or need some recommendations (or have some for me!) please do comment. I have be posting my night time routine tomorrow! #twolittleowlsblog

Make-Up Look: Every Day!

C: So I have always wanted to try and do a “whats on my face” post, as I love reading them on other peoples blogs but until now I haven’t dare! So I am going in… and apologies in advance for the horrendous pictures of my face. So today’s look… everyday make up.

20140424-124211.jpg

Dear me. I do apologise (for the face and my messy apartment), I really am rubbish at taking photos of myself, any tips?? I also then got bored and started doing cross eyed, super ugly ones and this was the only one half suitable. So this is my every day make up look, for going shopping to going to work. It is subtle, yet put together – in my opinion. So here is what I used:

20140424-125019.jpg

So for my base I use the No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream which I apply with a foundation brush. I do not use primers/foundation on a daily basis because it just clogs my pores and I don’t like too much heavy coverage unless I am going out or to a special occasion. I then use a powder to set my foundation before using the ELF Eyebrow kit on my brows. I have barely any eye brows in real life so this is an essential for filling in the gaps and giving them some definition/shape.

I then using a black eye liner like this one from Korres underneath my eye and smudge out slightly before using a neutral eyeshadow all over my lid and a dark brown in the crease. This palette is so old I don’t even know what make it is, but I just love the matte colours for every day wear – as you can see! They have almost gone (cries). I then use the Korres eyeliner again on my top lid as this product is so pigmented it looks like liquid eyeliner but without all the effort and finish my eyes with plenty of mascara!

I then do my contouring – a tip from me is do this last, as then you can see where you really need the definition and you don’t end up orange/sparkly. Firstly I use Benefits Hoola bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks and to add some colour to my face. I then use my Mac highlighter at the top of my cheeks, down my nose and on my fore(five)head, and the Benefit High Beam under the arch of my eyebrow. Lastly I dust a little Mac blusher in Stay Pretty on my cheeks and add a swipe of Model Co’s Kitty lipstick – the perfect long lasting nude.

I hope you guys like this post, I would really appreciate some feedback on how I could improve it or whether you would like to see some similar posts (I shall make Annie do a similar one when she gets home from holiday)! #twolittleowlsblog

Let The Good Times Roll

A: Last week, I had a mid-week Lush haul and the Let The Good Times Roll Cleanser was part of it. I started off using this every morning to combat my dry skin for the first few days and I now use it every other morning. Its a lovely product to use and lasts ages because you only need a tiny amount to mix with warm water in your hand to form a paste which you then rub onto your face gently. I always leave it for a few minutes to absorb and then wash off with warm water and moisturise, then carry only with my normal morning routine.

Because I’ve been using the Clinique 3 step Anti-Blemish Solutions routine, to help with clearing my blemishes, my skin is super dry because the step two cleanser is so strong. I didn’t want to stop using the Clinque routine so Chloe recommended this and I’m so pleased she did. She loves it because it exfoliates really well and doesn’t irritate her skin at all, and most things irritate her skin! From the first use I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin, it soothed it and gave me a glow and meant I was still able to carry on my normal morning routine – just with an extra addition. Now I use it every other morning, and it’s still working it’s magic.

Now to the best part about this cleanser – the smell. It is amazing. I know all Luch products smell good, but really you have to trust me on this. It has a yummy, buttery popcorny smell which stays with you all day and doesn’t fade. It makes me want to eat it and as we know from Chloe’s previous Lush reviews, that’s a bad idea.

I honestly can’t recommend this enough, if you skin is slightly dry or in need of some rejuvenation, go to Lush right now and buy it. Seriously – you won’t regret it.

Have you already tried this cleanser? What do you think?
