A No7 Christmas Count Down – Day 3

C: as if it’s the third of December already! It’s going so quick which makes me sad/super excited for the big day! I once again got too excited and opened my advent calendar at 7am…. And here’s what I received!

A 10ml sample of their Instant Illusions Airbrush Away Primer! I’m pleased to receive this as my last primer is getting a little empty and it makes sense to put this earlier on in the advent calendar so you can test out your new products with it.

First impressions are good, my make up has applied nicely over it but as its only 9.30… I can’t comment on its lasting abilities just yet! Hopefully it will be super amazing and then I can use it for my Christmas Day make up!

Have any of you guys tried this? I will be doing a full review on it in the new year once I have given it a proper test run over the festive period I’m sure! #twolittleowls

Review: Instablur from The Body Shop

A: Now this is a product I’ve fallen in love with over and over again and it’s now an everyday staple for me. It’s not the cheapest of primers; priced at £14, but after having it for over a year (I just checked my emails for when I placed my last Body Shop order and am in shock at how well this has lasted me!), it is obviously well worth the pennies.

When they introduced this product last year, The Body Shop did a massive campaign about how this would be the only make up you wear, and that it perfects all skin. I watched the you tube ads and it did look impressive, so I was super excited when it arrived. The only other primer I had used is Porefessional, and I loved that so I was expecting good things but to be totally honest I was really put off by the texture of the product, it’s thick, gloopy, and plasticky. I was pretty sure that smearing this all over my face wouldn’t do it any good.

But I decided to give it a go, because of the amazing press coverage – surely it had to be good and I had spent fourteen hard earned pounds on it! Im so happy I persevered, the first time I used it I was super impressed. It blended my pores out, blurred my pesky blemishes and evened my skin tone, and mattified my skin too! I thought I was onto a winner, and carried on using it – waiting to see how it would effect my skin and if it would give me any crazy breakouts. I’m very prone to spots and acne, so was expecting the worst – but my skin stayed pretty much the same so I was very happy – and still am!

I use the tiniest amount when prepping my skin for make up, and after cleansing and toning (to avoid too much getting into my pores). And on good skin days – I just use this and clear powder as my base and its perfection! It doesn’t feel plasticky or gloopy once applied – it feels velvety and smooth and evens my skin so beautifully, plus it’s light and comfortable and lasts ALL day. And I mean all day – I put my make up on at 7am and rarely get home before 6pm/often go out straight after work and I don’t have to worry about touching up at all.

So all in all, if you’re looking for a primer you should go buy this. Cause it’s amazing! Click here to head to The Body Shop website if you want to know anymore/can’t wait to get your hands on one!

Review: Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Instant Perfector

C: this was an accidental, panic purchase a while ago… I wanted my dramatically different moisturising gel, and there was a free gift if you bought two items. So obviously I HAD to have the free gift! The lady at the counter helped me pick this out, and even though I have a few pore related issues (as in they are gigantic) I just shoved this in my stash and didn’t even try it for ages!

photo 2

“Look smooth and virtually flawless with pores that appear more than 50% smaller-instantly. Natural-looking matte finish lasts up to 8 hours. Resists sweat, humidity. In two skin tone shades or Invisible Bright for subtle brightening.”

So do I agree with Cliniques claims? All you do with this is apply it like a primer before your foundation (or alone if you don’t wear foundation). You only need a tiny amount for your whole face, which is good really as it is £20 for 15ml (available here).

I then have to say that it really does smooth your skin and make pores appear smaller. I have absolutely no idea how, its quite strange really. It provides a good base to apply make up, so your foundation doesn’t slip around over it/fall off your face. I am not entirely sure whether it is sweat resistant, as I try to ensure that I avoid sweating at all costs but as I am going to be heavily pregnant over summer I am sure I will be able to report back on that one!

So Cliniques product lives up to it’s impressive claims but… for some reason I just don’t love this product. I have no idea why, I just forget to use it. However, if you fancy trying this, I would say it is similar to Benefits Porefessional (and similar in price really!), so if you enjoy that you will more than likely love this too!

Anyone else tried this from Clinique? What were your thoughts? #twolittleowls

Review: Garnier 5 Sec Perfect Blur Primer

C: I received this in one of my Pink Parcels, and although I love using a primer this got lost at the bottom of my make up stash until I recently rediscovered it! I have been using it ever since and I absolutely love it! This is available from Boots here for £12.99

Now the texture of this is very similar to Benefits Porefessional – so similar I would consider this as a cheaper dupe for the cult favourite! All you do is apply after moisturiser to blur imperfections and reduce shine and it provides the perfect base for make up. All of my foundations have applied flawlessly over this, as it makes your skin so soft and smooth!

Garnier’s primer also helps foundation and make up last longer, as there is less slip from shine, and foundation doesn’t disappear into pores or go patchy throughout the day. Overall I think this is incredible value for money when compared to Benefits offering, due to being so similar in performance but this is half the price! I have also noticed that it does not clog my pores as much, and my skin still feels lovely after taking it off!

Have any of you guys tried this primer? If so what did you think? #twolittleowls

Februarys Empties 2015

C: After a mixture of beauty related Christmas presents and January sales shopping, I decided it was finally time to sort through my stash. This has resulted in me throwing away several items because they have been opened too long, and in using up the many samples I have floating about from subscription boxes etc. All in all, this has resulted in a lot of empties this month! So here we go!

1. Lush Ultrabland Cleanser – one of my current skincare essentials! I won’t talk too much about this as we reviewed it here, but I absolutely loved it. If you have sensitive or problem skin then you need to check it out!

Repurchase? Yes once I have used up some of my stash!

2. Merumaya Iconic Youth Serum & Melting Cleansing Balm – two samples from one of my You Beauty boxes I believe. I only got one use out of each sample, so I cannot really comment on its skincare effects. However, both smelt amazing and I did not react badly to them (I have sensitive skin).

Repurchase? I shall definitely be doing a little research into the brand.

3. Yardley Uplifting Daisy Body Lotion – another You Beauty sample. I wasn’t that eager to try this out, and to me Yardley is an old person brand that my nan uses! However, I am happy to admit when I am wrong! This smelt amazing and did a super job of moisturising my stupidly dry skin.

Repurchase? Yes if I didn’t have about 20 body butters/lotions to use up first!

4. Mac Prep + Prime – another product we have previously reviewed here

Repurchase? Hella yeah.

5. Rimmel Nail Polish 500 Disco Ball – I bloody love this nail polish but it has gone gloopy. I have had it for well over two years though so I cannot complain! It is super glittery, easy to apply (but not remove unfortunately) and lasts a long time. Perfect.

Repurchase? If they still do it, I would happily repurchase.

6. Avon Glimmerstick Eye Liner in Blackened Night – I bought this ages ago and then kind of forgot about it, but now I love these! They aren’t too glittery so you can get away with wearing them every day, they are super black and easy to apply. For the price you can’t complain!

Repurchase? I already have another!

7. Aromatherapy Associates Revive Body Gel – now I received this in my first Birchbox, and even though I love the smell I still don’t understand what the point of it is. Like seriously, it says apply to problem areas such as thighs, feet etc but doesn’t actually say what for. So now its going in the bin. So if anyone knows what its for please do tell me!

Repurchase? Nah!

Well, that was a long empties post today! What do you think to the products I have mentioned? Have you tried any of them? Let us know! #twolittleowls

Review: Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Base

A: I’ve had this product for about a month now and have been using it almost every day, so I thought it was time to share a review with you!

I got this from my local department store where the lovely saleswoman recommended it as both a radiance boosting primer, and a highlighter. I’ve been after a liquid highlighter for a while now and as this is a 2 in 1 product, I couldn’t say no; I love me a dual product!
The packing for this is lovely, the tube is iridescent and the gold lid and pump work beautifully – and makes it feel really luxurious.
It’s designed to illuminate and correct, so it can also be worn without foundation. My favourite way of wearing it though is as a highlighter on my cheekbones.

I chose the shade Rose, which is suited perfectly to my pale complexion. I’ve tried to pick up how iridescent and light-reflecting the formula is. It’s so beautiful and has such a silky texture – it applies beautifully and feels lovely in your skin. It also lasts all day too – which is exactly what you want from a highlighter.
As a primer, it works really well too. It keeps my make up in place but also illuminates from underneath my make up too.
It is pretty pricey, but it’s a high end product so the retail price of £18 is prefect if you’re looking to treat yourself.
I can’t wait to show you this in a FOTD so give us a follow if you’d like to see it, it will be coming soon!

What’s your favourite highlighter?#twolittleowlsblog

Annie’s Favourite Eyeshadow! Ft. Urban Decay

A: Now, I am a bit of a newbie to eyeshadows. I always really struggled because I had never worn them so when I did try them out, I looked like a 5 year old wearing my mum’s make up! But after a lot of practice, I think I have found my ‘signature’ eyeshadow look and I’d love to know what you guys think!

My current go to shadows are from the Naked 2 Palette from Urban Decay; Chopper and Snakebite (4th and 6th from the left). I apply my usual everyday make up (which you can see here, but I had just got back from Jamaica when I posted that so I was SUPER freckly…). I then move onto my eyes, and apply an eyeshadow primer to start, usually my Benefit Stay Don’t Stray. I then apply chopper all over my lid and pack it on above my lash line. The Urban Decay brush that comes with this palette is perfect for this! Chopper is such a beautiful colour, copper with loads of shimmer and gold undertones. I take it along my lower lash line too, and into the inner corners. I then apply Snakebite to my upper lash line and pack it on to the outer corners, and take it along the outer corners of my lower lash line. This colour is perfect for defining your lash line. Then it’s blend blend blend. Once I’m happy with the shadow, I curl my lashes and apply my Body Builder Mascara from the Balm Cosmetics (my all time favourite mascara!). So here’s the finished look…

What do you think? If you have any tips about colours which would suit me, please let me know!! #twolittleowlsblog
