Review: Sleek Make Up Matte Me ultra smooth matte lip cream

A: Hi guys! I thought I’d treat you all to a review on the cold and windy Friday evening. This is something I bought in the lead up to christmas, knowing that I would need a long-lasting red lip product to see me through the festive period and as soon as I used it, I knew I would have to share it with you lovely readers.

I chose the colour Rioja Red, but there are other colours available (click here to see the full range) – if you’re not a fan of pink though there isn’t a lot of choice. I don’t wear pink lip colour at all because of my super orange hair… but the red is beautiful. A bright pillarbox red which is super wearable and has a really rich tone. The first time I used this, I didn’t pre-moisturise my lips which is a rookie mistake. Because of its super matte finish, using a lip balm before you apply is really important! So here’s how it looks…

I can’t even comprehend how long-lasting this product is. These photos were taken three hours after I applied it. And it’s still pretty much perfect!! It does start to bleed a little around the edges after a while, but I haven’t used it with a lip liner yet and I’m sure that would help stop any issues. It’s super pigmented, and dries pretty much instantly, at which point it turns from a gloss to a matte. Drinking and eating doesn’t budge it either, which is always a bonus!! It does stain your skin though, so if you don’t get it right the first time you will look like Heath Ledger as the Joker from The Batman. And I’m telling you that from experience.
I love the finished look of this so much, but there are some things which I’m not so happy with. The applicator for one thing could be better. I prefer the ‘heart’ shaped applicators when it comes to ‘gloss’ style packaging. This is just a little awkward to use because it’s just a straight nib. Also, it is incredibly drying. After I’ve used it, I always use the Lush Lip Scrub and plenty of moisturiser to try to get my lips back to some kind of normal state.
It isn’t something I would wear on a regular basis, but it is so good for special occasions where you know you will need to be able to rely on a long-lasting, durable product.

Have you tried any matte lip creams? I’d love to know because I’m desperate to find some more, I’m addicted now! #twolittleowlsblog

Make up look: everyday

A: so following Chloe’s make up look, I thought I had better post mine (you can find hers here). Although we are both super pale, we have different skin types so our routine make up is fairly different from one another.

So here’s my super freckly face, I don’t normally look this orange but I’ve just got back from a holiday in 35 degree heat and surprisingly, I don’t tan – I just turn into an Oompa Loompa.

I’ve taken two photos for my make up steps, the first one is what I use on my face and the second is eyes and lips.

So firstly I use a primer, at the moment I’m using benefit’s stay don’t stray. This is really good to use as just a concealer if you’re in a rush (or feeling lazy), and a primer. I use this under my eyes an on my t-zone to help cover those pesky blemishes.
I then use Avon’s corrector palette. This is an amazing product because it has all the concealers you need in one compact. I use the yellow to tone down any redness and the pink and brown to brighten dull areas.
After this, I move onto a bb cream. This is a MODELco one and I bought it from Birchbox a few weeks ago. It’s good for every day use because it isn’t really heavy so doesn’t block pores, but you can build it up really easily if you need to. I use my mac foundation brush to apply.

After the base is applied, I move onto my eyes by using Avon’s glimmerstick diamonds in black ice. This is another good product from Avon, it’s a really pigmented colour and lasts all day. I apply it to my eyelids and then use a liquid liner to add flicks, this one is from a brand called W7 and it’s from a local beauty shop. I’m really particular with liquid liners but I love these as the brush is really stiff and allows to create really fine lines. I then use benefit’s They’re Real mascara. I don’t need to rave about this because we all know how amazing it is, it’s a must have beauty product. After my mascara is dry I add some of the glimmerstick eyeliner pencil along my lower lashes.
I then move onto contouring, using bareMinerals warmth powder. I always pull a stupid face when I contour, a bit like Dori off of Finding Nemo? Because this makes it easier to define your cheekbones. And it’s pretty funny. I use Chella’s Ivory Lace Highlighter on my cheekbones, which I need a lot of at the moment because my skin is so orange (and matches my hair – not cool). I use an e.l.f blusher in rose tea once I’ve finished contouring.

Finally I use bareMinerals Mineral Veil to set my make up and tone down any shiny parts with their Flawless Face brush. I then add a nude lipstick, my favourite at the moment is the Lasting Finish range by Kate Moss for Rimmel in shade 03, Chloe bought me this for my birthday and it’s really long lasting and smells lovely!

We would love some feedback on these features as it isn’t something we have done before, and it’s pretty scary putting a massive picture of our faces on the Internet for all to scrutinise. We are thinking about a going out face of the day post, should we go for it? #twolittleowls

Spring Lip Colours

C: as the seasons change so does our choice of colours/finishes of our make up. As the weather gets sunnier I tend to stop wearing the dark matte colours of winter and lean towards a brighter, glossier lip! So to celebrate such seasonal changes I have picked out my top favourite lip products that are currently at the top of my lip product drawer!

So from the far left we have:

Model Co Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Strip Tease – £12 and available here

Clinique Chubby Stick in Whoppin’ Watermelon 06 – £17 from here

Mac LustreGlass in Venetian B62 – £14 from here

Kate Moss Rimmel Lipstick in 110 – £5.49 from Boots

Maybelline Baby Lips  in Pink Punch – £2.99 from Boots

And now for the swatches:

So firstly we have the Model Co Lipgloss. This is a sheer nude gloss, with hints of glitter/shimmer through it which gives a perfect “your lips but better” look! It isn’t sticky and lasts a surprisingly long time for a gloss! Perfect for a day time or night time look.

Next up we have the Clinique chubby stick, which is a beautiful pale pink that can be worn as a subtle colour, or layered up for a more striking look. I used this all the time, as it has good pigmentation when layered up, but is less high maintenance than wearing a lip stick when you are going out for lunch etc.

Well we couldn’t have a lip product post and not mention either Mac or a red lip could we?! So we have combined both! This Lustre Glass by Mac is a highly pigmented gloss in bright red. A perfect way of updating your favourite red lip from a dark matte colour to a Spring inspired glossy lip!

Next up we have the Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick in 110. This is the perfect coral shade for Spring, and lasts forever! The only thing I would say is that if you aren’t a pro at putting on lipstick, I would be wary of going out the line, because this stuff does not come off your skin (not ideal for drunken lip stick application!)

Last but not least we have the Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch, I won’t go on too much because every beauty blogger and their mother have heard of these. Pink Punch is a bright pink lip balm which is the perfect way of looking after your lips and giving a pop of colour this Spring. This bad boy hasn’t left my handbag all month!

So what lip products are you guys using this Spring? Let us know/if you have any recommendations! #twolittleowlsblog
