The Starting Over Tag

C: now I didn’t actually get tagged to do this, but saw this on Katies Blog (Plus+Beauty), and thought it was a great idea! Basically, you have to pick 16 products that you would first re-buy if you lost all of your make up collection – the perfect post for someone that is new to make up and wants to start a capsule collection of the essentials! I have tried to include a mixture of drugstore and higher end products, and haven’t included brushes etc just make up, so lets get started:

photo-31

1. Rimmel BB Cream in Matte – a bb cream is an essential in my make up bag now, for those days when a full face of make up isn’t necessary. For the drugstore price, this is perfect! It covers imperfections and doesn’t irritate my skin. Perfect for any bb cream/foundation newbie (it does need a setting powder though!) (Check out my previous review here)

2. Mac Matchmaster Foundation – my current favourite foundation that is one of the only ones I have ever repurchased. Although expensive compared to some, this lasts absolutely ages and I love using it.

3. Benefit boi-ing Concealer – another repurchase here for me. This is too thick for me all the time, but when I am having a break out I cannot cope without this. It literally covers anything and everything, and lasts all day.

4. Benefit Professional Primer – probably not an essential for other people who do not have problem pores, but it is for me on a night out/occasion. I don’t use this every day, but it really does help create a flawless base and make up lasts much longer. (For a full review click here)

5. ELF High Definition Powder – I wasn’t sure on this when I first bought it, as if you use too much you end up with a white moon face. But now I have got the hang of it I love it. Seriously. Love. It sets my foundations perfectly and keeps shine/make up slip at bay all day!

6. ELF Eyebrow Kit – now I will be honest, this is the only eyebrow product I have ever tried, but it works so well I have never felt inclined to try any others. Sister in law assures me it is comparable to Benefits Browzings at a fraction of the price, perfect.

7. Benefits Hoola Bronzer – another blogger favourite, that is perfect for pale skin. Easy to blend, not orange and gives a lovely contour. I have been using the sample size in the photo for about a year now, and still haven’t hit pan, so it is well worth the investment!

8. The Balms Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter – another cult beauty product that I also love! Gives a beauty glow that lasts all day – review here if you are interested!

9. Mac Blusher in Stay Pretty – it was hard to pick a blusher, but I love all the ones I have tried from Mac and I think this is my favourite colour. It is so girly and pink, but looks super natural if blended well.

10. Benefit Stay Don’t Stray Eyeshadow Primer – never thought I would be the type of person to have an eyeshadow primer on my essentials list! But seriously, this is some good stuff. It enhances the colour/pigmentation of your eyeshadow, reduces creasing and makes it last longer.

11. Rimmel Eyeliner – I don’t have a favourite eyeliner, but I always have a black one to hand, and normally buy them from Rimmel, Cheap and do the job.

12. Rimmel Glameyes Liquid Eyeliner – super black, easy to apply and I am not allergic like I am to most other liquid liners. This is a constant repurchase for me, and I am not sure what I would do if they discontinued it!

13. Urban Decay, Naked Basics Palettes – its UD and a neutral palette. Enough said when compiling an essentials list.

14. Benefit They’re Real Mascara – another product I have previously reviewed and love. Click here if you want to have a read!

15. Model Co Lipstick in Kitty – my favourite every day lipstick. It is super comfortable on the lips, lasts a long time and is perfect for any occasion. This lipstick sparked off my love of lipsticks!

16. MUA lipstick in Shade 01 – a capsule make up collection is not complete until you have a nice red lipstick in there. This costs £1 and is the biggest bargain ever for such a beautiful lip colour.

So there are my essentials! Any you agree/disagree with? Would love to hear! #twolittleowls

Chloes 2014 Beauty Favourites!

C: This has been our blogs first Christmas, and therefore our first New Year! To celebrate our first year (almost!) of blogging I have decided to do a post on my favourite beauty/make up items of 2014. Some of these I already loved before starting the blog, whereas others are new discoveries through twolittleowls! I have split these into several sections, because apparently blogging has been bad for my bank balance and I now have loads of favourites that I cannot live without!

Base:

photo 2-22

ELF HD Powder – my new favourite powder that is super cheap and lasts forever! I have used this every day since I got it 6 months ago, and it is still half full! It keeps shine at bay all day and makes foundation look super natural!

The Balms Mary Lou Manizer – I won’t go on about this, as I reviewed it here but it is definitely my new favourite highlighter!

Benefit Hoola Bronzer – another blogger favourite that is the perfect bronzer for pale skin!

Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – never thought I would be someone who wears an eyeshadow primer… I originally thought they were a bit of a lie/con! But they really do work! I received this in a Birchbox and it has lasted for ages, so I will definitely re-buy it when it runs out!

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer – this has always been a favourite of mine. Covers spots and darks circles perfectly. Heaven.

Benefit Professional Primer – never knew I was such a Benefit fan until I started this… but hey ho. This is perfect for covering up my pores. I wouldn’t use it every day as it does clog up my skin a bit but it is perfect for nights out and special occasions!

Brushes

photo 1-22

You can’t have nice make up, without investing in nice brushes! My favourite this year has to be my DaVinci Rondo foundation brush. It makes applying a smooth perfect base so easy! I love it! I have also become a massive fan of all Real Techniques brushes, and this precision eye shadow brush from The Vintage Cosmetics Company. All of these bad boys make my make up look almost like I know what I’m doing!

Eyes

photo 3-11

ELF Eyebrow Kit – another beauty product I never thought I would love! I never used to fill in or do anything to my eyebrows (don’t panic I did pluck them), and now when I look at photos I freak myself out! This is comparable to the Benefit Browzing’s and a fraction of the price!

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette – won’t go on about this too much, as there will be a review coming shortly but I am now in LOVE!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – oh look. Another Benefit product! Perfectly separated, massive lashes. The only downside is its so long lasting that its super hard to remove!

Lips

photo 4-5

Model Co Lipstick in Kitty – another Birchbox discovery that I have since repurchased! This is the perfect pinky nude for me. It is long lasting yet hydrating, and definitely the product that sparked my love for lipsticks!

No7 Lip Crayons – I am not putting the shade, as this is a general love for all of them! I have a couple now, and they are amazing. They are highly pigmented, moisturising and long lasting. Definitely the perfect alternative to the Clinique Chubby Sticks if you are looking for something a little cheaper!

Laqa & Co Lip Lube – another surprise favourite. Purple lip lube you say?! never! But I love it! It is moisturising, pigmented and fades evenly so you dont need to worry about it being all over your face/looking horrendous.

So guys, what are your 2014 favourites? Any the same as mine? #twolittleowls

Our Favourites from the GQ Awards

A & C: We love a good awards ceremony, and last night the GQ Men of the Year Awards was no exception. Red carpets, shimmery dresses and flawless hair and make up – the ladies really stole the show. Here are our favourites;

Sheridan-Smith-GQ_02Sep14_rex_b_592x888_1

Sheridan Smith suits this cute 70’s retro look perfectly. A gorgeous lace panel smock dress with nude heels and statement clutch.

Jourdan-Dunn-GQ_02Sep14_rex_b_592x888_1

Model Jourdan Dunn wore a sheer Zuhair Murad gown, and no one can deny that this girl looks amazing. We aren’t sure we would go for the sheer evening dress look ourselves…(still working off that pesky Christmas weight in September is acceptable right?) …but if we looked as hot as she did we’d be wearing them all the time.

Rita-Ora-GQ_02Sep14_rex_b_592x888_1

Rita Ora has outdone herself again with this beaded slashed-to-the-thigh dress. Another Zuhair Murad creation with a strong shoulder and jewels to die for. 100 smokey-eye points to your make-up artist too Rita.

Amber-Le-Bon-and-Yasmin-Le-Bon_glamour_3sep14_rex_b_592x888

Amber and Yasmin Le Bon both looked super-stylish, but Amber’s cream embroidered full length dress was our favourite. We love that she’s teamed it with huge chandelier earrings and sweeping curled hair. Very sophisticated.

Johnny-Depp_glamour_3sep14_rex_b_592x888

We had to include a few of the guys too, and Johnny Depp looked as cool as ever with his all-black suit and shirt combo and trademark sunglasses.

Jonah-Hill-and-Bradley-Cooper_glamour_3sep14_rex_b_592x888

These two are some of our favourites, Bradley with his manly stubble and open necked shirt made all the girls swoon. And Jonah look dapper in his tux – is that a knitted tie we spy? A guy after our own hearts.

July’s Empties

C: look how good I am doing at using up my stash/not buying more stuff?! There should be some sort of beauty blogger medal for that… well I’m impressed anyway. So here is what I have been using up this month:

photo(24)

1. Lush Tea Tree Water Toner – I wont go on and on about this as I have reviewed it before here

Repurchase? Yes once I have tried some of the other Lush toners, as I am interested to see if they are as good/better than this one!

2. Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter: yes yes I know… more S&G. I have issues okay? Love this stuff. It smells like Summer and it is super moisturising without making you feel sweaty/greasy.

Repurchase? Already got 2 more tubs to get through!

3. Beauty Protector Shampoo & Conditioner: received these samples in my Birchbox and they were teeny tiny so I only got one wash out of them, so can’t really comment on their effectiveness/hair saving qualities. They do smell nice though and my hair was clean… which is a winner?

Repurchase? Probably not as i didn’t get to try them properly but I do know other shampoos that work well for me.

4. Vasanti Nutrient Rich Purifying Facial Cleanser: another Birchbox sample that I actually enjoyed using. This did not irritate my sensitive skin and made it feel soft, smooth and clean.

Repurchase? I would do if I didn’t have loads more cleansers to use up/that are on my list to try.

5. Soap & Glory Scrub of Your Life: one of my favourite shower gels. I love the scent and its delicately scrubby… meaning you can use it everyday without irritating your skin but it keeps even elbows and knees soft!

Repurchase? 100% I have withdrawal symptoms already.

what have you lovely readers been using up this month? Let us know! #twolittleowlsblog

More June Favourites

A: Following Chloe’s June Favourites post, I’ve decided to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

Avon Ideal Luminous Shimmer Block

I got this a couple of month’s ago from my lovely Avon lady for just £6, an introductory offer price (this is something Avon are always really good at so keep an eye out on their new products!). It’s really nice to use because the colours are so blendable and also super versatile. I’ve been using the darker half as bronze/contour and the lighter colours as highlighter/eyeshadow, and they last all day. Perfect for some extra colour in the Summer, find it here.

Collection Hot Look Nail Polish

I got this orange colour for my birthday in April and I’ve been saving it for Summer. The shade is called ‘scorched’ – it looks really good on, with a slight shimmer. It dries super quickly and is pretty long lasting too, even without a top coat – impressive considering I’ve found it on the Boots website for £1.99 (here).

Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm

This is pretty boring I’m afraid, but with all of this warm weather we’ve been lucky to have, I like to keep my lips super hydrated and this has been my go to balm for years (probably about 10 – that’s pretty scary). I don’t need to go on about it, it does what it says on the tin and I love it, my boyfriend even keeps some in his van (but don’t tell anyone I told you!). Available here for just £1.65.

Bomb Cosmetics Little Hottie Wax Melts and Oil Burner

This one is a bit of a re-discovery. My boyfriend bought me this last year (for Valentine’s I think?!) and I used it so much, but ran out of wax melts and never got any more so whilst Chloe and I were at our local shopping centre last month I decided to treat myself to some. Firstly, you need to buy a burner and a stash of (non-scented) tea-lights. You then choose your wax melts. There’s literally tonnes to choose from, and not only that but the combinations you can make are never-ending. My favourites are raspberry, chocolate orange, white chocolate and vanilla. You then place your choice of wax melt on the top of the burner, above a candle and let the relaxing start. The scents are yummy and really strong, and last for about 20 hours per melt. Pretty good going!

The website has so many choices of scents, but if you can find an outlet that’s even better because you can only pack four different scents in your box online but in a shop it’s like a pick-and-mix. You also get a little ‘recipe’ card, to help get the best scent combinations.

The burners are £8.99 and available here, and the melts are £6.99 per box available here, I think these make a really lovely gift – or you can just treat yourself!

Annie’s May favourites

20140531-174618-63978059.jpg
A: Following Chloe’s May Favourites, it’s now my turn to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

My latest Yankee Candle purchase, this is more of a lifestyle choice but I LOVE candles and have them burning all the time. I’ve had a super stressful time since my holiday with exams and study but this has helped keep me calm. It’s Yankee Candle’s Wild Rose. Rose is one of my favourite scents – it reminds me of summer and it’s just so floral and pretty so this candle always puts me in a happy place – and you can never go wrong with a Yankee Candle. I got this from a local outlet too, so it was a bargain at £6.98.

20140531-175539-64539932.jpg
My next favourite is this Avon corrector palette. I mentioned this in a haul post back in April but I haven’t had chance to review it yet. Quite simply, it’s brilliant. It has four different colour concealers which cover all of your cover up needs. I have really spot prone skin, so I need a good balance of concealers at all times. I have used the yellow one the most, as you can probably see – because it reduces redness. The orange is for dark circles, the pink is to act as a highlighter and the beige is a standard concealer. The palette comes with a small concealer brush which fits in the compact nicely and has a sturdy lid which isn’t likely to break easily. The consistency of the products are all the same and apply really well, without being clumpy or too drying but it is still long lasting. The only thing that would make this perfect would be to have a mirror on the inside of the lid. It was in a flash sale when I purchased it for £6.00 but you can buy it here for £10.50.

The next product, I have reviewed briefly before. It’s The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Facial Wash. I have been using this for a month now and I have fallen in love. Tea Tree has natural healing abilities so it’s perfect for those pesky blemishes. I use it morning and night, before applying and after removing my make up. It smells lovely although it does smell strongly of erm… tea tree. It lathers really well when you massage it into your face, and washes off easily, and it’s worked wonders for my pores! I did expect it to be drying but it isn’t at all, it’s cleansing and soothing. I do have sensitive skin but it hasn’t affected it in a bad way and my face feels super clean after I’ve used it. You can find it here for £5.00. Bargain!

20140531-181724-65844242.jpg
Okay I’ve saved the best till last. I was lucky enough to receive this MAC lipstick for my birthday in matte Taupe. I can’t tell you how much I love this. The colour is beautiful and so wearable, although I obviously save it for special occasions! It’s super long lasting and has a really creamy texture, which is unusual for such a matte colour. Matte lipstick is my favourite and I have bought quite a lot (too many!!) but this is the best consistency by far. All I can say is if you haven’t got a MAC lipstick already, you should definitely treat yourself. You won’t regret it, they are little beauties.

Chloe’s May Favourites!

C: this month has gone so quickly, only seems like yesterday I was writing about my April favs – so much so I edited this photo originally saying “Aprils Favourites!” oops! So here we go… I haven’t had many stand out products this month, I didn’t want to just include anything so a few of these are old favourites that I keep on coming back too!

Image

So first up we have LUSH’s Let the Good Times Roll which is my go to exfoliator at the moment. I won’t bang on about this as we did a full review on it here but I have been reaching for this lately to exfoliate my skin and prep it for make up without irritating my skin!

Benefits Hoola Bronzer- a beauty blogger favourite. I have really got into my contouring recently and I would recommend this for anyone with pale skin. It is the perfect bronzer that isn’t orange at all and blends really easily! Perfect for a contouring novice like me!

Elf Eyebrow Kit – I love this bad boy and it is a massive bargain. Perfect for filling in my non existent brows and keeping them tame all day long. You can use as little or as much as you want for a natural or dark brown look. Love it.

Laura Mercier Vanilla Ombre Body Butter – I received this in one of my Birchboxes a while ago and have only just got round to trying it. The scent is AMAZING. I love vanilla scented things anyway but this is just heavenly. The smell lasts so long and it is really moisturising as well. I keep putting it on before bed so I can fall asleep surrounded by the beautiful scent and wake up too baby smooth skin.

Last but certainly not least we have Model Co’s Party Proof Lipstick in “Kitty”. I love these lipsticks (I now have 4 in different colours) as they are long lasting, have a smooth application and are the perfect nudes for every day wear. What more could you want? These are available for £15.50 on the Birchbox website for 3 nude or bright colours.

So what have you guys been loving this month? Let us know, we love to hear from you! #twolittleowlsblog
