The Lust List: Annie’s Part 1

A: Recently I’ve been lusting over so many high-end products that I thought I would put together a series with my top branded products – starting with MAC.

creme

Cremeblend Blush

“a blush that manages to make a simple blush state-of-the-art. Creamy, easy to blend medium coverage formula imparts a natural finish that’s smooth, dewy-fresh and long-lasting.”

I love a good cream blusher and this is top of the list for me. It looks really buildable, which is perfect for Summer as you can apply as little or as much as you need – depending on your tan (I still need a lot, pale and pasty is an all-round-year look for me). I think my favourite colour is ‘posey’ because it’s a dusky pink rather than a red-pink, which would suit my skin tone perfectly. It’s currently for sale on MAC’s UK site for £18.00 here.

green luxe

Verluxe Pearlfushion Shadow: Greenluxe

“Five complementary shades that glide on and blend beautifully for infinite day-to-night looks: light peach, bright champagne with pearl, dark olive, blackened green with gold pearl and deep forest green with pearl. Matte to highly pearlized finish.”

I have only just started to get into my eyeshadows (I know!!), and this looks b-e-a-utful. I love wearing goldy/blacky/shimmery tones on my eyeline and blending them out with subtle shimmers so this would be perfect for me. It’s quite pricey at £30, but I think it’s totally worth it. You can find it here, along with lots of other shades.

brush

168 Large Angled Contour Brush

“For expert application of cheek contour. This brush is a large angled contour – the fibres form a buffed edge and are soft and firmly bundled. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature birch, linden and ramin wood handles, nickel-plated brass ferrules.”

Contouring is my new favourite thing, so I obviously need a new tool. This is perfect and I have other MAC brushes so I know they are amazing quality. The angle is ideal for contouring and blending – it is £27, but MAC brushes are super long-lasting so I wouldn’t mind spending that much. You can find it here.

sochaud

Matte Lipstick: So Chaud

“Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.”

I just had to include a lipstick, you can’t have a lust list without one can you? Orange is my favourite colour at the moment, and I can’t even explain how much I need this. I have a few MAC lipsticks already, in nude and wearable colours so a bright would be perfect to add to my collection. At £15 I may just have to treat myself. Kiko Cosmetics: An Introduction

C: my lovely mother (number2) got home from Italy yesterday and got me an amazing present from Kiko Cosmetics! I was super excited as obviously I love make up, and who doesn’t like a nice treat? So here is what she picked for me:

photo(19)

So firstly, a little introduction to Kiko Cosmetics as although I had previously heard of them I didn’t have any of their products. Kiko is rooted in Italy where they originate from but they now have stores in London and you can order from their super easy to navigate website. Kiko describe their brand as: “Be What You Want to Be.” Through its extraordinarily wide and diversified range of products, KIKO allows everyone to express their own personality with custom-made products. A variety of colours, effects and sensations that are unique in the market to suit your style, skin tone, skin type and specific requirements, at every phase of your life.

So what products did the mother pick me? First up is this amazing Nail Lacquer in 301 – Grass Green. A beautiful bright green that I cannot wait to try out – it is perfect for summer! Kiko also have an amazing colour selection available, and from comparing this nail polish to the swatches available on their websites, the colour samples seem very accurate.

I also received a Luscious Cream Lipstick in 501 Light Rose which is a beautiful nude colour and the formula is amazingly hydrating. However, lets just talk about that packaging! As soon as I took this out of the box I was super excited about how high end this looked – so high end I couldn’t work out how to open it and mother2 had to help me! This looks amazing in my make up bag and is really sturdy so you won’t have any squished lipstick incidents – perfect!

So my overall first impressions? 100% Kiko! I shall be doing full reviews when I have had a chance to test these bad boys out, but please do let me know if you have tried them before/what you think! #twolittleowlsblog

Annie’s Summer Wishlist

A: So Summer has arrived and hopefully the Sun is going to stay for a while. I thought I’d put together a wish list of all the things I’m lusting after at the moment because I haven’t done one in a while.

genie_lip_paint_large_2_1

Firstly, this Genie Lipstick from Barry M. I spotted this on The Oxford Owl’s blog and have been looking out for it ever since, she posts some really good product reviews – click here and check them out! Don’t worry – this isn’t green lipstick. Well, it is BUT is magically changes colour when it’s applied – to you ‘perfect personal shade of pink’. The formula adapts to the Alkali in your lips, to give you your own individual shade of lipstick. Clever hey?! It’s meant to be really long lasting too, so I’m looking forward to giving this a go! I’ve found it for £4.49 on the Barry M website here.

High_Beam_Hijab

Next, I’m after a highlighter. I really want to try out the ‘dewey’ look and I think one of the best ways to achive it is with a cream highlighter. I know I’m pretty late to the game with this one, but as far as I can see, Benefit’s High Beam is going to be the best. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know!!

62C03GNAV_large

I’ve been looking for a midi-length skirt for a while now, and I think this navy spotted one by The Whitepepper at Topshop is perfect. I love the button through front panel and the way that it sits – high and on the waist. It’ll be perfect for those days that I want to cover up but still be summery. It’s £48 and can be found here.

Lastly, I am 100% going to be buying an ice-lolly mould this summer. I love making ice-lollies at home because you can make them exactly the way you want, and this Lollyring mould from Lakeland is adorable! You can make 6 rings in 3 different designs, and I know my nephews and niece will love making them. The set is £4.99 and you can buy it here.

What’re your Summer must haves? #twolittleowls

F.O.T.E

A: for all of you followers, you will know that we went to a Ball on Saturday evening with our other halves (see the full post here – with extra funny photos). Today, we are going to give you a quick run down of the make up we chose for the evening.

We had totally planned to do loads of photos for this post, but we ended up having about half an hour for make up application/getting dressed/choosing accessories/having a glass of Prosecco/AND choosing lipstick. I know right. I’m suprised we were even able to leave the house, so unfortunately this is the best photo we got of our make up. Sorry!

20140608-153412-56052935.jpg

A: so I’m the ginger one on the left for those of you that didn’t already know. I went for a dramtic lip colour and subtle eyes. I started off with my MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream. This stuff has amazing lasting qualites so I knew it would look good for the whole evening and because it’s a BB cream, it doesnt make you look like you’ve got tonnes of make up on. I then moved onto eyes, using my Elizabth Arden pallette, and a dark green with a pale gold just on my eyeline. I tend not to wear too much eyeshadow, and I like the look this gives. I then added liquid eyeline with flicks and some gold dust shadow which I received in my December Birchbox. I applied this to the line of my eyeline and in the inner cornes of my eyes and just underneath. This is super glittery and looks really pretty with just a little shadow. Mascara used was the favourite – Benefit’s They’re Real. You can’t go wrong with this because it lasts so well and doesn’t smudge, but gives a really dramatic look.

After this, I used my Bare Minerals foundation in ‘fair’ (the palest one you can get!), to help hide those pesky blemishes – damn them! They cover up really well with this though, and I do find that it helps the healing process too, and the Bare Minerals concealer brush is perfect for cover ups. I finished with a light all over dusting of this of this, just to take off any shine. Next, was the contouring, blusher and highlighting. I used my Bare Minerals powder in ‘warmth’ for contouring and buffed with my ‘flawless face’ brush – also Bare Minerals. I then added my blusher, I chose the Elf in ‘rose’. After this I borrowed Chloe’s MAC highlighter – and was super impressed…may have to make an investment!! I then blended these together to give a more natural look.

Eyebrows slightly filled in with my pencil, and then to The Lipstick. Capital letters are necessary – lipstick is pretty important to me. I chose the Clarins Joli Rough in spicy cinnamon. I LOVE Clarins lip products – they are really moisturising and pigmented, so the colour lasts ages. I only had to re-apply 3 times all night, and we ate a three course meal! If you’re interested, the link to Clarins is here!

C: so I am the non-ginger one if you didn’t already know! I always wear more make up than Annie (I get excited) so apologies in advance for how long this post will be!

I started off by applying my benefit Porefessional as my primer as my pores are basically the size of moon craters and it creates an amazing base for foundation, and makes your make-up last all day/night. I then used my Mac Matchmaster foundation and Soap & Glory’s Kick Ass powder to set it. My Mac foundation is one of my favourite products in my make up kit because it gives such a natural but perfect finish.

I then filled in the eyebrows with the ELF eyebrow kit in dark before moving on to my eyes (I LOVE this product and always include it in my FOTD and make-up essentials posts). I like a dark smokey eye for a night out so after using Benefits Stay Don’t Stray concealer I used a Body Shop black eyeliner under my eye to make them look a little wider and then Barry M eyeshadows in black and silver, which is a perfect combination. I used the black eyeshadow on my outer eye lid and along the crease and the silver on the rest of the lid. I then finished off with a flick of Rimmel eyeliner (my fav is featured in my recent empties post) and Benefits They’re real mascara, which as Annie already said is our go-to-mascara.

I then moved on to my contouring – I’ve been super excited about contouring recently because it can change your look so dramatically. I think it’s best to contour last so you can see how it looks with the rest of your make up/you don’t end up clown-esque, very easily done. I used Benefits Hoola Bronzer, the BALMS Mary Lou Manizer highlighter and a bright pink blusher from Mac! Lastly I used my No7 lip crayon in a dark pink just to add a little colour to my lips. I went for a more dramatic look on my eyes rather than lips – this is my usual look and Annie always does the opposite!

What’s your favourite look for a night out? #twolittleowls

Annie’s May favourites

20140531-174618-63978059.jpg
A: Following Chloe’s May Favourites, it’s now my turn to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

My latest Yankee Candle purchase, this is more of a lifestyle choice but I LOVE candles and have them burning all the time. I’ve had a super stressful time since my holiday with exams and study but this has helped keep me calm. It’s Yankee Candle’s Wild Rose. Rose is one of my favourite scents – it reminds me of summer and it’s just so floral and pretty so this candle always puts me in a happy place – and you can never go wrong with a Yankee Candle. I got this from a local outlet too, so it was a bargain at £6.98.

20140531-175539-64539932.jpg
My next favourite is this Avon corrector palette. I mentioned this in a haul post back in April but I haven’t had chance to review it yet. Quite simply, it’s brilliant. It has four different colour concealers which cover all of your cover up needs. I have really spot prone skin, so I need a good balance of concealers at all times. I have used the yellow one the most, as you can probably see – because it reduces redness. The orange is for dark circles, the pink is to act as a highlighter and the beige is a standard concealer. The palette comes with a small concealer brush which fits in the compact nicely and has a sturdy lid which isn’t likely to break easily. The consistency of the products are all the same and apply really well, without being clumpy or too drying but it is still long lasting. The only thing that would make this perfect would be to have a mirror on the inside of the lid. It was in a flash sale when I purchased it for £6.00 but you can buy it here for £10.50.

The next product, I have reviewed briefly before. It’s The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Facial Wash. I have been using this for a month now and I have fallen in love. Tea Tree has natural healing abilities so it’s perfect for those pesky blemishes. I use it morning and night, before applying and after removing my make up. It smells lovely although it does smell strongly of erm… tea tree. It lathers really well when you massage it into your face, and washes off easily, and it’s worked wonders for my pores! I did expect it to be drying but it isn’t at all, it’s cleansing and soothing. I do have sensitive skin but it hasn’t affected it in a bad way and my face feels super clean after I’ve used it. You can find it here for £5.00. Bargain!

20140531-181724-65844242.jpg
Okay I’ve saved the best till last. I was lucky enough to receive this MAC lipstick for my birthday in matte Taupe. I can’t tell you how much I love this. The colour is beautiful and so wearable, although I obviously save it for special occasions! It’s super long lasting and has a really creamy texture, which is unusual for such a matte colour. Matte lipstick is my favourite and I have bought quite a lot (too many!!) but this is the best consistency by far. All I can say is if you haven’t got a MAC lipstick already, you should definitely treat yourself. You won’t regret it, they are little beauties.

How ‘Bout Them Apples – A Birchbox Review

A & C: We recently received these super cute samples in our Birchboxes and after giving them a whirl we are ready to share our thoughts with you guys! We both received the colour “Pie” which does not seem to be available on its own but the palette containing 6 shades is £26 from Birchbox.

Image

C: so firstly… how super adorable is this packaging? I love the BALM’s vintage feel packaging and I especially like that all the colours have apple themed names. I’m unsure on the naked men part but we won’t get in to that. So how did the product work? I have never used a cheek creme/cream blusher before so I cannot compare it too other formulas but I can say how easy it was to apply for a newbie. I dotted a little on my cheeks and then blended with my Real Techniques blusher brush and it lasted all day! I also tried it as a lip colour and I really liked it for that as well. It was a little bit drying on the lips and lasted about 2 hours, which for a multi-use product is pretty good going!

A: I really like the BALM’s products that I have had before in my Birchbox so I was really excited to receive this in my box this month, especially because I have been lusting after a cream blusher for ages. I wouldn’t normally choose this colour to go with my skin tone because it is pink based and I usually go for a brownish toned blusher but this is actually really lovely against my skin tone. I took the same approach as Chloe (except I did it as soon as I opened my box – I get way too excited about new things and have to use the straight away but Chloe has to save them…little bit strange), and dotted onto my cheeks and blended with a brush and found that it lasted all day because if it’s staining quality, but it was also easy to remove with make up remover. I do prefer to use it on my cheeks rather than on my lips, the whole dual use thing freaks me out a bit and although the shade looks good on my cheeks, it looks totally wrong on my lips. I would quite like to use the ‘crisp’ colour as a lip stain, and I really like the idea of being able to buy the whol palette so you get a choice every day – what more could you want!!

Have you tried this or any other products from the BALM? #twolittleowls

MODEL co BB+ cream

20140519-181817-65897858.jpg
A: a couple of weeks ago, I posted a review of my MAC prime and perfect bb cream, which you can find here, so now I thought I would give you a review of another bb cream I bought by MODEL co. I actually ordered this from Birchbox, hoping it would come in time for my holiday but it didn’t so I obviously had to buy a new MAC one at the airport…

Firstly, it’s quite pricey. It was £15 but I didn’t mind too much because I had some Birchbox points to use but at the time I didn’t realise how tiny it was – the full size product is 35ml. I never think of this brand as being high end, but it is close to high end prices, and it wasn’t a lot cheaper than MAC so I was expecting a lot from this product.

Thankfully I’ve still got lots of freckles from my holiday so I don’t need to apply too much, it’s a really nice silky texture and suits my skin tone well once I’ve blended but it is quite difficult to blend. I resorted to using my fingers because my foundation brushes just weren’t working – this might be easier if you haven’t got a pigmentation like freckles because it just made them look a bit weird and smeary (I know that’s not a real word but you all get what I mean). I have found that it lasts well though, once it’s applied it lasted me all day, after applying bare Minerals mineral veil to hold my make up in place. It doesn’t clog my pores, which is perfect for regular use and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing lots of make up, which is a bonus when it’s been as hot as it has today!!

I would say that this would make a good every day make up , I like to save my more expensive make up for fun things rather than just work, but I think it is a little out of the price range for every day wear for me – but I am still a student!
If you have more pennies than me and you’re tempted by the MODEL co brand, you can find it here on Birchbox’s website (their lipsticks are lovely too!).

Have you got any bb cream recommendations? #twolittleowls
