Hillary’s #blindofthemonth Home Makeover Competition

A: When I spotted this competition, I knew I had to enter it – I love anything to do with interior design, and my boyfriend are currently in the (very long) process of renovating our home so this is amazing inspiration for me.

Hillary’s have put together this competition to design your bedroom at home using their Blind of the Month, the Monochrome Midnight. Not only do you get to have fun with designing, but there’s also an amazingly generous prize up for grabs – a selection of products worth up to £1000!

mono-midnight-blind-hillary_featuredBecause this is a blackout blind, I have based my design on cool and calming colours and themes. It’s also a pretty bold design, so I would firstly layer it with some voile curtains.

I love these ones because the layered lace give them a feminine and vintage feel – which would balance with the bold, masculine print of the blind perfectly. Voile curtains look so pretty in a window, with the sunlight drifting through them whilst they flutter in the breeze, they are a perfect addition to any bedroom with a blind as they let the sunlight in during the day, but the blind serves it’s purpose at night time whilst not looking out of place.

This wood-look vinyl flooring wood be perfect in a room with these colours, it’s really realistic and so easy to look after too, and I love this Belgravia Berber Cream carpet from Hillary’s – it has such a thick pile so will feel super cosy and add some comfort to the room with some rugs made from this.

For a statement wall, I would use this pretty floral wallpaper. The idea of clashing patterns in a room is one of my favourites; not too much but just enough to create an unusual and interesting look. The colours in this particular paper are perfect with the Monochrome Midnight Blind; because the pattern has a ‘sketched’ look, it has tones of black and grey which echo the palette of the blind. It is such a pretty design and would look beautiful on any wall, and I really like the fact that it has a cream background; white and black together can be a little harsh but cream and black has a much more calming effect.

I’ve put together a mood board for accessories and finishing touches. I love the warm colours that these floral fairy lights give so used this as inspiration for soft furnishings, like the rose and peony cushion and cream bedding. I would also use dark wood furniture to enhance the rustic, vintage atmosphere I want to achieve. This, along with cute vintage mirrors, hessian stag cushion and mason jar lighting would really give the room a calm and cosy feel and it would be the perfect place to escape for some peace and tranquility.

When I first saw the colours of the Blind of the Month, I wasn’t sure how I would put a room theme together. Blacks and greys are not my colour of choice for home decor – but I love the way my mood board has come together. In fact – I think I may use this as inspiration to decorate our bedroom because I love it so much.

If you want to find out more about entering this competition, click here – but hurry, it closes on Sunday 17th August.

Regis: Holiday Hair Beauty must-haves

A & C: Regis Salons have recently launched their *brand new* online store, and we’ve had a bit of a gander to find our favourite products for sun protection in this lovely weather. We both have long, super thick hair so hair care is pretty important to us, and after we saw their competition lauch – we knew we had to give it a go.

DESIGNLINE Ultimate Radiance Shampoo

“Achieve beautiful, vibrant, energized hair with DESIGNLINE Ultimate Radiance Shampoo 350ml which revitalizes and protects your hair.”

DESIGNLINEUltimate Radiance Conditioner

“Get the beautiful, vibrant hair you want with DESIGNLINE Ultimate Radiance Conditioner 355ml which instantly detangles, heals and conditions hair.”

We had to include these as a pair, because they are SUCH bargains and it’s always nice to have a shampoo and conditioner as a set. Designline is also Regis Salon’s own line of hair care. The shampoo has a sulfate free formula which removes chlorine (perfect for days spent in the pool!) and impurities without stripping the moisture from you hair.

And if your hair is feeling dry because of too much time in the sun, Regis recommends the conditioner because it replenishes hydration and provides ultimate smoothness – leaving your hair with a radiant shine. What more could you want? They cost just £8.99 each – a baragin and available here if you’re as tempted as us.

DESIGNLINE Olive Oil Restoring Oil

“Rich in vitamins and antioxidants DESIGNLINE Olive Oil Restoring Oil is just what you need to create sleek, smooth styles with no frizz.”

Another pick from Regis’s own range, olive oil based products are perfect for sun and uv protection. This has been designed to soften and hydrate your hair, leaving your hair looking and feeling amazing. You can find it here for £11.49.

DESIGNLINE Hydrating Balm

“If your hair is in need of a bit of moisture then our stylist recommend DESIGNLINE Hydrating Balm 250ml which will leave your hair touchably soft, moist and supple.”

Regis introduce this as a ‘spa day’ for your hair, and after you’ve worked hard for all those hours relaxing in the sun, your hair would be in a need of a treat – and this looks perfect. £11.49 is pretty reasonable for such a luxury, you can find it here.

M and Co Capsule Holiday Wardrobe

A: After finding this really fun challenge on M and Co’s blog, we decided we should definately give it a go.

We have an M and Co in our local town and it’s somewhere I head to regularly if I am in need of a new outfit because they have such a wide range of clothing and accessories, and always have pieces in that are high fashion – they are really big on the tribal print at the moment, which is a trend I absolutely love.

The challenge is to put together a capsule holiday wardrobe from M and Co’s online Holiday shop for under £100. So here are my must have holiday peices.

Image Image

Obviously swimwear is top of the list, and this polkadot bikini (thankfully it’s not itsby, bitsy, teeny, weeny or yellow – yellow is NOT a good colour for us gingers) is perfect for me. I want a bikini to make me feel covered, comfortable and safe, so if I want want to do a dive bomb in the swimming pool, I can. It has got removable padded sections and has a really lovely shape to offer support. It’s a bargain too, the top is £16 and the bottoms are £14.

Okay so I LOVE these beach trousers. I would wear palazzo pants all the time if I could because they are super comfy and are perfect for hot countries because of their light fabric, in the day or evening. These would look amazing with just a bikini top for lounging around the pool, with a simple white blouse for the day time or with a black vest and some boho-style jewellery for the evening. Perfect for a capsule wardrobe because they can be worn for so many occassions. They are £26, and totally worth every penny.

I always try to pack a good pair of comfortable and practical shorts for a holiday because my boyfriend gets bored pretty easily and we normally go on lots of excursions, which can involve anything from climbing Mayan pyramids to sliding down Jamaican waterfalls – and I like to keep my dignity if I can. These are ideal for warm weather because they are made from linen, and are really versatile so can be worn with anything. They are new in at M and Co, part of their ‘High Summer ’14 Catalogue’,  and come with this really cute belt (again – a perfect addition to a capsule wardrobe because you can wear it with dresses, trousers or anything else you fancy). They are £26.00.

Lastly, I have chosen this blue swing blouse as part of my holiday essentials. This is such a lovely colour, described as ‘Wedgewood’ and will go perfectly with the white linen shorts I have also chosen. It’s made from a lightweight polyester and has a really flattering but comfortable shape, and a statement necklace worn under the collar will really dress this up for the evenings. This is in the sale at the minute, and its £18, reduced from £26.

So that’s my choices for my holiday must-haves, 5 pieces for exactly £100, which are all really versatile and wearable. Perfect! Head to M and Co’s website to have more of a nosey at their holiday shop (click here), we’d love to know what you would choose! #twolittleowls

Spring Nails

C & A: Now that the days are getting sunnier and (slightly) warmer, we’ve decided to show you our favourite Spring Nails as part of Julep’s Spring Nail Art competition (they have beautiful colours, go take a look!).

A: I’ve gone for a daisy and polka dot look using a pastel blue as a base. I started with the usual cleaning, filing and buffing and then after a clear base coat, I added the blue. After this, I used a nail dotting pen wo add the white petals of the daisies on my ring finger and thumb. I then added the polka dots to my middle finger using the same technique.

After these has dried, I added extra coats as necessary as the white doesn’t show up fantastically on the blue. I then added the yellow centres of the daises with the dotting pen and did the usual top coat. I hope you like them! I’m really pleased with them because they look really fresh and spring-like but still subtle enough to wear for work, and the blue matches the colour of my car perfectly so I am totally colour coordinated!
