June 2015 Birchbox: Step Outside with French Sole

C: after seeing lots of advertisements from Birchbox, promising an amazing box with lots of make up samples, I decided to order Junes box. We also got to pick the patterned box and shoe bag this month which was a nice concept, and I enjoyed the floral print so decided to go for it…

FullSizeRender

As you can see the box itself is lovely, and I will be keeping it for storing bits and bobs in on my dressing table. However personally I never used shoe bags so the additional extra, whilst pretty is pretty pointless to me!

FullSizeRender-2

Penhaligon’s Iris Prima Perfume – this actually smells rather nice… but considering its £85 a bottle, I won’t be buying it! I also don’t really like getting perfume samples in a beauty box as you can pick them up for free basically anywhere!

Cowshed Body Lotion in Gorgeous Cow – this was one of the products I was hoping to get after seeing other peoples boxes, as I love rose/floral scented products and I haven’t tried many items from Cowshed. It is also a generously sized sample and I can’t wait to get using it!

STY London Temporary Tattoos – I am not sure where to start with this one. I genuinely don’t understand why anyone would want these. I know they are currently fashionable, but I have real tattoos so I very much doubt I will ever use these!

Premae Mild Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub – another product I wasn’t particularly excited to see. I find any scrub thats apparently suitable for face and body suspicious. The skin on our face is very different to the skin on the rest of our bodies, so I don’t understand how it will work. I will however, be giving this a go and will review it for you all I am sure!

Hip Ultra Shine Shampoo – I don’t really like receiving shampoo samples without the matching conditioner, as I don’t feel like you get a true feel for the products effectiveness. But atleast I will actually get some use out of this product and can use it!

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Poppy – as the only make up sample in the whole box, I found this very disapointing. Although it is a product/brand I haven’t used before and therefore am interested in trying, this sample is absolutely tiny! So tiny it was underneath the shoe bag and I didn’t actually notice it was in there! I also cannot open it… hopefully one day I will manage to do so and I will review it for you!

So overall, a pretty disappointing Birchbox experience considering it was my first resubscription in over 6 months! What did you guys think to the box? I have already cancelled my subscription for next month, I will wait and see what other peoples boxes are like before I consider ordering one! #twolittleowls

Chloe’s January 2015 Empties!

C: Another month (year), another set of empties! As Christmas brought lots of beauty related treats I have been trying super hard to use up lots of my stash this month (L said he was gonna throw stuff away if I didn’t use it… ridiculous). As you can see I have done a pretty good job really! For me anyway!

photo(34)

1. Yes to Cucumbers Face Wipes – Annie gave me these out of one of her Birchboxes as she hates the smell of cucumber. So do I, but apparently she isn’t bothered about my scent preferences. Anyway, I didn’t love these, didn’t hate them. They were effective at removing make up, but I wouldn’t say they had any skincare benefits – I was always led to believe that face wipes are bad for your skin (and the environment!)

Repurchase? No.

2. S&G The Righteous Butter – one of my favourite S&G products, although I think I now prefer the Butter Yourself scent. This sinks into the skin easily for a body butter, smells nice and moisturises well. For a reasonable price (which is also normally on offer too!) you can’t ask for more! Love it.

Repurchase? If I hadn’t received about 3 for Christmas then of course.

3. Dead Sea Spa Magik Bath Shower Gel – I am suspicious of any products that have multiple uses… Jack of all trades, master of none and all. But this was okay actually, it smelt like a spa and made me clean/I wasn’t allergic. I kept this in my swimming/work bag and it did the job perfectly.

Repurchase? No just because I didn’t love it and it isn’t the normal fragrance I would choose.

4. Silk Honey Shea Butter Hair Mask – another Birchbox product! I got a couple of uses out of this sample size and I enjoyed it actually. It smelt nice and did a good job of moisturising my hair without it feeling greasy.

Repurchase? For £55 (yes… said that correctly!) no! Too many pennies for a hair mask, but I did enjoy using it!

5. Benefit Posietint – I haven’t actually used this up, I was just going through my stash and found this tucked at the bottom looking battered and old. As I have no idea how old it is I shall be throwing it away! I do have another though and I love it. The perfect cheek and lip tint, I don’t find it particularly long lasting but as its easy to re-apply this does not bother me

Repurchase? Already have!

What have you guys been using up this month? Has the increase in Christmas beauty stashes resulted in lots of empties for you too?! Make sure you send us links to your empties posts! #twolittleowls

Chloes 2014 Beauty Favourites!

C: This has been our blogs first Christmas, and therefore our first New Year! To celebrate our first year (almost!) of blogging I have decided to do a post on my favourite beauty/make up items of 2014. Some of these I already loved before starting the blog, whereas others are new discoveries through twolittleowls! I have split these into several sections, because apparently blogging has been bad for my bank balance and I now have loads of favourites that I cannot live without!

Base:

photo 2-22

ELF HD Powder – my new favourite powder that is super cheap and lasts forever! I have used this every day since I got it 6 months ago, and it is still half full! It keeps shine at bay all day and makes foundation look super natural!

The Balms Mary Lou Manizer – I won’t go on about this, as I reviewed it here but it is definitely my new favourite highlighter!

Benefit Hoola Bronzer – another blogger favourite that is the perfect bronzer for pale skin!

Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – never thought I would be someone who wears an eyeshadow primer… I originally thought they were a bit of a lie/con! But they really do work! I received this in a Birchbox and it has lasted for ages, so I will definitely re-buy it when it runs out!

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer – this has always been a favourite of mine. Covers spots and darks circles perfectly. Heaven.

Benefit Professional Primer – never knew I was such a Benefit fan until I started this… but hey ho. This is perfect for covering up my pores. I wouldn’t use it every day as it does clog up my skin a bit but it is perfect for nights out and special occasions!

Brushes

photo 1-22

You can’t have nice make up, without investing in nice brushes! My favourite this year has to be my DaVinci Rondo foundation brush. It makes applying a smooth perfect base so easy! I love it! I have also become a massive fan of all Real Techniques brushes, and this precision eye shadow brush from The Vintage Cosmetics Company. All of these bad boys make my make up look almost like I know what I’m doing!

Eyes

photo 3-11

ELF Eyebrow Kit – another beauty product I never thought I would love! I never used to fill in or do anything to my eyebrows (don’t panic I did pluck them), and now when I look at photos I freak myself out! This is comparable to the Benefit Browzing’s and a fraction of the price!

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette – won’t go on about this too much, as there will be a review coming shortly but I am now in LOVE!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – oh look. Another Benefit product! Perfectly separated, massive lashes. The only downside is its so long lasting that its super hard to remove!

Lips

photo 4-5

Model Co Lipstick in Kitty – another Birchbox discovery that I have since repurchased! This is the perfect pinky nude for me. It is long lasting yet hydrating, and definitely the product that sparked my love for lipsticks!

No7 Lip Crayons – I am not putting the shade, as this is a general love for all of them! I have a couple now, and they are amazing. They are highly pigmented, moisturising and long lasting. Definitely the perfect alternative to the Clinique Chubby Sticks if you are looking for something a little cheaper!

Laqa & Co Lip Lube – another surprise favourite. Purple lip lube you say?! never! But I love it! It is moisturising, pigmented and fades evenly so you dont need to worry about it being all over your face/looking horrendous.

So guys, what are your 2014 favourites? Any the same as mine? #twolittleowls

Review: Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream

A & C: both of us received Balance Me’s Wonder Eye Cream in our July Birchbox (click here to see the full box!) and chloe has been testing this bad boy out so we can post a review for you! Neither of us previously used an eye cream (I know… naughty/lazy beauty bloggers) so it was really interesting to try this out.

photo 2-9

Perfect for: Perking up the eye area whilst helping to keep visible signs of ageing at bay.

Key benefits: Our eye cream is rich but light and absorbs beautifully to help to reduce the appearance of fine lines. We have blended virgin coconut, rosehip and carrot oil to soften skin, and Roman chamomile and cucumber oil with non-alcohol witch hazel to smooth away dark shadows. Super hydrating hyaluronic acid and anti-oxidant rich spruce knot plump and boost the delicate skin around your eyes.

C: As I hadn’t tried an eye cream before I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this. I have been using a tiny amount (it costs £20 for a large tube than this, but lasts ages!) each night before bed, patting it under my eye from the outside in to reduce puffiness. I found this worked really well at reducing my bags – niiiice, sorry. I’m always tired – and for keeping my under eye area moisturised. Since using this I have found that my concealer/foundation applies much more evenly and no longer creases, unfortunately as I am so young and youthful (don’t mock) I cannot comment on its anti-aging properties. However, I shall keep using it in the hope that I never develop any wrinkles!

Have any of you guys tried this? Do you have any other eye creams you recommend? #twolittleowls

Review: LAQA & CO Lip Lube

C: When I first received this in my Birchbox I was super unimpressed. Purple Lip Lube? Couldn’t think of anything worse so it got thrown into my lipstick drawer (yes, I have so many they have a full drawer to themselves) and forgotten about. Annie eventually persuaded me that purple would suit me, so I tried it out and fell in love. True love.

photo 1-16

Apologies for the used product photo, it wasn’t something I ever thought would be featured on here so I didn’t take any photos before I used it. The packaging is lovely and bright, you just have to twist the bottom for more product. It is also easy to apply as it is so moisturising, its texture is comparable to a Clinique Chubby stick but in my opinion it is more pigmented (and tastes of mint!) which you can see in the swatch below.

photo 2-18

The colour really is beautiful and bright, which is scary for some. However, I really would recommend this to anyone who is looking to start wearing brighter lip colours, as its wears evenly and doesn’t stain your lips. Meaning you don’t have to worry about a high maintenance lip colour that looks horrendous as it starts to come off!

For such a moisturising product it also lasts a surprisingly long time. I get about 3 hours wear from this before I need to reapply. This is reduced when I am eating/drinking, but I am super pleased with its performance. I loved it so much that I wore it to the #bloggersfestival which you can see in the photo below, and I have been reaching for it every time I go out in the evening. Perfect.

Have you guys tried any of the Lip Lubes from LAQA & CO? What do you think of this colour? #twolittleowls

Annie’s First Empties Post!

A: This really is my first empties post ever. It’s taken me 10 whole months to collect enough empties to write about and review…because I like using new stuff too much. I have a problem. So here it goes.

photo 1 (1)

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – £4.99 from Boots

This is one of the cheaper micellar waters on the market at the moment. I have tried quite a few but I must say that this is my favourite. It feels super clean to use and is not greasy at all and leaves my skin feeling cleansed and ready for the day – and is great for sensitive skin too. It doesn’t have a scent, which suits me perfectly because these can sometimes irritate my skin. The 400ml bottle advertises 200 uses – in theory just 2p per use, which is massive value for money. I would highly recommend this for removing your make-up if you’re a fan of the micellar waters.

Re-purchase? No, but only because I have changed my cleansing routine recently. This actually didn’t help improve my skin and it’s blemishes – something which my new routine has done (don’t worry – I will be posting an updated night time routine soon!).

photo 2

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions All Over Clearing Treatment – £25.00 from Boots for the 3 Step System

I bought this 3 step system from Clinique as a last ditch attempt when I was feeling super low about my spots and blemishes. I was stuck in a relentless circle of permanently having bad skin and assumed this would solve all of my problems because all of the online reviews said it worked for them. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me. At all. If anything, it made my skin worse – especially for the first few weeks, I was expecting this so I powered through – but it didn’t improve . The scent, texture and packaging really do make them a nice product to use – particularly this clearing treatment. It sinks into your skin almost immediately and and makes it feel refreshed and super soft so I am disappointed this didn’t work for me – it obviously just contains something my skin doesn’t agree with. I don’t want to put any of you off of using this – please give it a try if you think it might suit you and read other reviews!

Re-purchase? No!

Beauty Protecter Daily Shampoo and Conditioner –  £14 each from Birchbox

These were in one of my Birchbox’s, and shampoos and conditioners are one of my favourite things to receive because they are perfect for nights or weekends away. I saved these for a weekend away we had planned and was excited to use them as a treat for my hair and because they smelt SO good (although a lot of Birchbox products all have a very similar scent?). Sadly, they were a little heavy for me and left my hair feeling lank and dull – not silky smooth and voluminous like I was hoping. I still haven’t found my HG shampoo and conditioner – and actually buy one from Aldi because it suits my hair the best (embarrassing but true). Have you got any shampoo tips for me?

Re-purchase? No, sorry – a little expensive too I think!

photo 4

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate – £12.99 from Birchbox

I won’t bang on about this too much because I actually reviewed it a while ago on the blog, so if you want to know more – click here!

Re-purchase? Yes!

photo 3

Urban Veda Radiance Exfoliating Facial Polish – £8.99 from Urban Veda

I love a good exfoliator and this is one of my favourites. It ‘naturally brightens and balances skin tone’ – which I really think it does! Plus it has lots of scrubby beads in it and for me, there’s nothing more annoying than an exfoliator with not enough beads.

Re-purchase? Yes, but I have a few more exfoliators to use first!

photo 2 (1)

Bare Minerals Original SPF15 Foundation in Fair – £19.95 from Feel Unique

This is my favourite product. I have included this in my Every Day Make Up Look (you should click the link, even if it’s just to lol at my selfie), but never actually dedicated a whole post to it – but it deserves it. It’s perfect for minimal coverage, but also for applying as much as you need. I really do love it as a foundation – and I don’t get on with liquid foundations because of my insane amount of freckles. If you have freckles, please try this!

Re-purchase? Without a doubt! (already have two in stock from the Feel Unique sale!!)

Have you tired any of these products? #twolittleowlsblog

An epic haul week!

C: as I have been saving recently hauls have been non existent! So apparently all of that saving has led up to a massive haul and lots of new treats! Here is what I have been buying:

20140825-150503.jpg

So these little beauties were bought in 2 sittings (which makes it more acceptable). First up I had some Birchbox points to spend and had a 20% off code as a birthday treat! So I ordered a models own set of tweezers as mine have disappeared and I keep having to wait until I get to Annie’s before I can pluck my monobrow. I also picked up the benefit Boi-ing concealer and the chacha balm. I have only just started trying these but first impressions are amazing!

Feel Unique then decided to mess with my bank balance by having a massive sale. I finally gave in and ordered the Urban Decay Basics Palette. It took me ages to decide which palette to get, but as I want all of them I figured I had better start with the basics! I also saw that the Vintage Cosmetics Company brushes and had to have one. The precision brush seemed pretty apt for my non existent eye lids so I went for that! Both of these for £19 with my birthday coupon!!

Anyway I shall stop waffling, have any of you guys tried these products? Can’t wait to review them all for you! #twolittleowlsblog

Birchbox – Away We Go (August 2014)

C: I received my Birchbox today, usually this is a super exciting day for me (I know… must get a life) but the past couple of months I have been a little disappointed with my boxes. I am not sure if this is just because the initial novelty of my beauty box subscription has gone, or… the boxes have got worse?! So here is what I got this month, and please let me know what you think!

photo 1(10)

So this is how my box came packaged. You can’t see the products very well in the photo but I just wanted to show you all the cute make up bag everything came in. It is super cute and goes well with this months holiday theme, however I must point out that its quite small and being a beauty addict my every day products wouldn’t fit in here! (Update: my little make up bag just broke after using it for the second time!) But anyway, here is what I got:

photo 2(10)

And a little close up of the eyeshadow:

photo 3(6)

So lets start with the eyeshadow. This is from “Wild about Beauty” and is in the colour “Fern” – Full sized and costs £13. I thought I had the wrong colour in the box, as to me ferns are green… but I checked on the Birchbox website and this is indeed the Fern colour. I like it actually though, especially the little bee!

Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect – RRP £20 sample is worth £3. A leave in conditioning spray to help detangle and protect against sun and heat damage. My hair is super knotty and I always have to use a detangling (is that a word?!) product so I will definitely try this out.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Refreshing Bath Shower Gel – RRP £7.15 sample is worth £0.51. I have heard of this brand before but it has never appealed to me. I can certainly get some use out of this sample – everyone washes – but to me Birchbox is about trying brands that are more high end so you can try before you invest.

Sarah McNamara Miracle Skin Transformer Hydroactive Microderm – RRP £25 sample is worth £7.35. A product I have never heard of before, however microderm products are usually too harsh for my sensitive skin – something I have filled out in my beauty profile – so I will try this, but doubt it will work well for me.

And lastly I received a sample of the Liason De Parfum in Stay With Me and the first chapter of The Proposal by Tasmina Perry – something that I wont read as I will be super annoyed if I like it and then have to wait for the rest of the book to be delivered!

So the total worth of the box is £23.86 plus the make up bag and little extras which is very good considering the box cost me £12.95 including postage. However, I am still not excited about it? I will get some use out of all of these products but nothing jumps out at me as being super amazing. So what do you guys think? Should I keep my subscription or try out something new? I am leaving it down to you! #twolittleowlsblog

End of an Era

A: Last Monday was a big day for me. I decided to cancel my Birchbox membership. I’ve been a bit disappointed with the boxes for the last couple of months, and Julys purple lipstick just pushed me over the edge. Purple lipstick does not go with my ginger hair and freckles.
But there was a plus side to this fatal decision – £20 of Birchbox points, which is basically like Christmas! I went straight to ordering some goodies and my delivery came today and here’s what I got.

20140806-181933-65973363.jpg
Firstly, the Benefit They’re Real Push Up Mascara. I don’t need to tell you about this because I’m sure you’ve heard about all the reviews, which is what made me choose to spend my Birchbox points on it. It does cost £18 though, I’m not sure whether I’d spend real money on it to be honest. But I haven’t tried it yet, if it’s amazing as everyone says I may just change my mind. It does look rather scary to use though…review to follow soon!

Next, the Natio Aromatherapy Rose and Chamomile Gentle Skin Toner. To be totally honest, I typed toner in the search bar on the Birchbox website and this was the first thing to catch my eye. I love anything with rose or chamomile in, and this has both so I added it to my basket straight away. I can’t wait to use this, and I’ll be reviewing it as soon as possible!

I’ve decided to replace my Birchbox subscription with the You Beauty Discovery Box. You can find out about it here, and hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow so I will be able to show you my first thoughts and tell you all about the subscription.

Have you tried the You Beauty Discovery box? #twolittleowls

Embroylisse Lait-Crème Concentrate: a review

A: I received this in my June Birchbox and I thought it was about time a shared a review with you all.

embryoliss-lait-concentre_1_

So what do Birchbox say about this product?

“Take a peek in any make-up artist’s kit and you’ll spy a well-loved tube of Embryolisse’s cult Lait-Crème Concentre. Since we’re just as picky as the pros, you’d better believe we’re fans too. This velvety moisturiser is rich without being heavy and gives skin the ultimate silky finish, thanks to generous amounts of soothing shea butter and aloe vera. It absorbs quickly without any residue. Plus, it doubles as a makeup remover, post-shave soother and all-over body lotion. Who says beauty isn’t practical?”

I’ve been using this for just over a month now and I’m quite picky about moisturisers so this is pretty good going. It has a really thin texture which I like in a moisturiser and the shea butter keeps my skin super hydrated throughout the day and feels lovely, plus it acts as a primer so for those everyday make-up looks, you don’t have to use product after product and can let your skin breathe throughout the day. My sample was pretty small so I couldn’t use it as an all-over body lotion like Birchbox suggest, but I did use it to remove my make up once or twice and it worked really well which I was surprised about – we all know how stubborn ‘they’re real’ can be!

I was hoping it would help with my break-out situation that seems to be going on and on forever. Although it hasn’t reduced my break-outs, it hasn’t made them worse either –  I have had a pretty stressful month with exams so I’m inclined to forgive it of this one. But I do have sensitive skin and this has been really good for soothing because it’s scent free and doesn’t cause any irritation = happy Annie!

Overall, I’m really happy with this as a moisturiser/make-up remover/primer – Birchbox have done good! I hadn’t heard of this brand before and it is renowned as a cult classic in virtually all of it’s reviews so I’m really excited to have discovered it.

It’s priced at £12.99 for 30ml on the Birchbox website, which I think is pretty reasonable for such a multi-use product. I’m pretty sure it’s helped me decide on what to spend those lovely Birchbox points on!

What do you think to this beauty must-have?
