The August Cohorted Beauty Box!

C: Hi guys, an exciting day today…. I finally got my August cohorted box! I say finally as I ordered this on like the 20th July or something before they went out of stock and I’ve been super excited to get it! Apparently they were all dispatched on the 10th, so really delivery was super quick! So here is what I got:

So first up, I love the packaging! Sleek but looks super high end and beautiful! Not normally keen on the whole black/white theme but it works well and I enjoy the ribbon! Everything is also safely encased in shredded black paper to keep all your goodies safe!

Bare Minerals Bare Vitamins Skin Rev-er Upper RRP £15 – basically a skin perfector that also helps extend the wear of your foundation. This is one of the items I am most excited about trying! I haven’t used anything similar to this before and I love bare minerals as a brand so a thumbs up from me!

Bare Minerals Soft Focus Face Brush RRP £20 – another item I am pleased to receive, I love new make up brushes! This is super soft and I can’t wait to try it out! It seems like the perfect powder brush.

Cargo Eye Colour Quad Palette RRP £10 – when I first opened this I assumed from the colours that this was a blusher/bronzer palette! They don’t seem very eyeshadow like colours to me… But I haven’t tried anything from this brand before so I shall certainly be trying these out!

Molton Brown Relaxing Yuan Zhi Body Cream RRP £6 – I was a little disappointed with this addition to the box just because it is tiny! I don’t think I will even get two uses out of this, which isn’t much use when deciding if you like a product! I have however used Molton Brown body lotions before so I know I will love this, but if you hadn’t it would be hard to get a feel for the product!

Laura Geller Baked Impressions Duo Eyeshadow RRP £15 – I actually love the colours in this and don’t have anything similar in my collection, so I shall definitely be doing a FOTD using this!

So there we have the August Cohorted box, which contains £66 worth of products so is great value for money! My only criticism is that I got 6 eye shadows! I feel like there could have been a little more variety to the box, as I would have preferred a more diverse selection of products! What do you guys think of the Cohorted box? #twolittleowls

Review: February Pink Parcel

A: It’s Pink Parcel time again – it always comes around so quickly, but now thanks to the Pink Parcel brand I don’t dread my period every month! And this months Parcel is the best yet.
Pink Parcel provide a discrete package delivered to your doorstep every month, with all of the things you need to keep you going through your ‘ladies time’. A bag of towels or tampons to pop into your bag for now, some for later and also some for bedtime.

IMG_5444
The most exciting box though is the ‘for you’ box. This contains a selection of treats, which are chosen each month by the lovely team at Pink Parcel. This month, I got seven extras which is amazing!

IMG_5445
Firstly, an Organic Surge Skin Perfecting face polish. I’ve never tried anything from this brand before, but I’ve heard a lot about them and this is designed to ‘exfoliate and stimulate to soften, smooth and brighten the skin’ with rosemary and lemon essential oils – it sounds dreamy so I can’t wait to give this a go!
A Pop Heart lip balm, which is perfect to pop in my handbag. Another brand I haven’t heard of – or used before, but I know this will come in handy with this super chilly weather we are having!
Now onto the most exciting product, the MUA Romantic Efflorescence eyeshadow palette. This really is beautiful and I’ve been after a new palette for a while now.

IMG_5447
This has 12 shades in total; 6 matte and 6 shimmered. The colours range from taupe, to bronze, to copper and plum. There’s also a black – which for me is an essential in a palette. It does come with an applicator but it’s one with the sponge ends and I’m really not a fan of these. These are £4 on the MUA website, click here to take a look – and I promise I will be posting a review with swatches soon!
I also received a Bella Pierre Cosmetics eyeshadow brush – which I am really excited to use. I have a few brushes from this company which I bought in an eyeshadow set and I was really impressed with them. The cheapest I have found these for is £14.99 (here), but like the MUA palette – I will be posting a review of the Bella Pierre Brushes soon.
Lastly, a nail file – always handy! And a Divine Chocolate white chocolate bar – which I may have eaten before I even took any photos. Sorry about that but I can assure you that it was delicious!

My last Pink Parcel review can be found here, and if you’d like to know more about the company just click here! Pink Parcels have a monthly subscription fee of £10 – but your first one is just £5, a real bargain!

Have any of you tried Pink Parcel? We’d love to know what you think! #twolittleowls

You Beauty Discovery Box October Edition

A: This is a beauty box that I find myself unable to unsubscribe from. I’ve had it for the last two months now (you can see September’s here), and you get between four and five products each month, two of which you choose from a selection which the team at You Beauty have put together. The price of the box is £6.95 – including postage! So here is what I got this month, the first two items being the ‘extras’, the second two being my choices.

Gold Collagen Forte

“GOLD COLLAGEN® Forte is a new anti-ageing liquid beauty supplement; it contains a unique, potent blend of antioxidants (Q10, acai berry, pomegranate, lycopene, L-Carnosine and resveratrol) to reduce the oxidative stress associated with ageing in your 40’s.”

Okay this is weird. I actually opened this and smelt it before I read what it was, and I assumed it was a lotion because of it’s super sweet scent. Then I read that you drink it. WHAT?! This is a daily supplement, and it is recommended that you drink one bottle a day to support healthy looking skin, hair and nails. It’s also supposed to hydrate your skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and protect against oxidative damage (whatever that is). The flavour is Peach and Lychee, and I love anything that smells or tastes of peach but this really smells awful to me. The sweet, almost clinical smell makes me gag. There is no way I can imagine drinking this, and the retail price is £40 for a ten-day package. Not particularly cheap, but if it does what it says on the tin it’s probably worth it. It is aimed at the 40+ age group. Not quite there yet. Sorry You Beauty, this is not for me.

Cowshed Perfecting Night Serum

“Cowshed Anti-Ageing Perfecting Night Serum is the ultimate all-in-one anti-ageing treatment for busy women with busy lives. The innovative serum-in-oil hybrid is bursting with natural active ingredients and essential oils that work wonders on your skin while you sleep, so that you can wake up to a firmer, brighter and smoother complexion. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!”

This is a product I am much happier with. I’ve seen a lot of Cowshed products about and have been wanting to try them out for a while. I am at the age (argh) where I should start to use anti-ageing products, so hopefully this will encourage me. Prevention is better than cure, as they say. It contains natural ingredients, such as Rosehip oil and Evening Primrose oil for cell regeneration and Jojoba oil with skin-soothing minerals such as zinc and vitamins B and E. Plus the brand was founded in an actual cowshed. Amazing. It does come in a little pricey though, at £48, but You Beauty are offering a code to receive a Skin Care Starter Kit with every purchase from the Cowshed website (click here). I received a sample size version of this, and although it is a little small I will be letting you know what I think.

Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Tease

“Illamasque Glamore Lipsticks are colour intense lipsticks with a long lasting satin finish. They offer ultimate comfort and smooth application without compromising on colour. Long lasting with intense pigment payoff, these lipsticks ooze both glamour and sophistication.”

photo 2

I was SO excited when I saw these lipsticks were available and headed online as soon as I could to add this to my box! I’ve never had a product from this company before, but I was expecting good things. The packaging really is lovely, super sophisticated and posh (plus it makes a lovely clicking sound when you put the lid on, does anyone else get an insane amount of satisfaction from that?!). But I am disappointed with the colour. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nude lipstick – most of my collection is made up of nudes but because of it’s amazing colour pigmentation, this applies like a concealer. It’s really strange! I’m hoping I can make it work for me though because the consistency is perfect, it applies beautifully – so keep you eyes out for a make-up look including this! This retails at £18.50 – so more than double the price I paid for my whole box.

Wild About Beauty Power Eyeshadow in Alana

“These eyeshadows are enriched with skin conditioning Aloe Vera & Vitamins E & C, available in an array of wearable shades, ideal for creating a multitude of looks. Apply to eyelids with an eyeshadow brush. If you’re looking for a Wild About Beauty brush, the brand recommends the Tapered Eyesahdow Brush.”

photo 1

I received a Wild About Beauty lipstick in last month’s box and loved it, so when I saw this I know I had to go for it. Now, I’m not a massive eyeshadow fan. I just can’t get it to look right on me, but I do like to use it as an eyeliner. This colour however is so lovely that I am going to try and branch out and wear it in a smokey eye look (wish me luck!!). It really is highly pigmented, and the little bee is so super cute. I find it really handy that it has a little mirror too! These retail at £13.

Although I was a little disappointed with some of the products in this month’s box, I am going to try and make them work for me (not the Collagen stuff though…). I will persevere with the lipstick and the eyeshadow, and try to do a make-up look using them both, so keep following! The total value of this box is approximately £36 – a real bargain considering I paid just £6.95. If I’ve tempted you, you can head to the You Beauty Discovery Website by clicking here.

You Beauty Discovery Box September Edition

A: I received my You Beauty Box this week and as usual, I was really excited to show you what’s in it.

IMG_4338.JPG
I love this beauty box because you get to choose two of your products, and you receive a full size version of these. You then get a mixture of samples which can be skincare, hair care, make up or lifestyle products. This box is just £6.95 including postage and packaging – I think this is a massive bargain. Plus, YBD are celebrting their 1st birthday this month – so the boxes are even more exciting.

Wild About Beauty Nutrilips Colour Lipstick SPF15

IMG_4339.JPG
“Perfect summer essential. Wild About Beauty‘s beautifully lightweight lipstick will leave your lips with a wash of sheer colour and soft shine finish. With added beneficial ingredients including Wild Mango Butter, Argan Oil and SPF protection this lipstick doubles up as a nourishing and moisturising treatment for lips.”

This is one of the products I chose and I received it in the shade Eve. Sadly, when I opened this it was broken – the whole lipstick had broken off at the bottom so it isn’t very usable. I emailed the team at YBD and they replied super quickly saying they were really sorry and they will send a replacement out ASAP. The colour is a lovely coral which looks sheer but also build-able, and moisturising mango butter gives it a lovely scent so I can’t wait to use it! This costs £15 on the Wild About Beauty website.

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm

IMG_4340.JPG
“Packed with lip-loving ingredients, this glossy gel balm protects & hydates lips instantly. After the balm wears off, lips are left tinted with a flattering, personalized hue just for you (colour & intensity depends on pH level of lips). Twist-up crayon requires no sharpening.”

I’ve been wanting to try some Pixi products for so long so I was really excited when this was availabe to add to my box this month (I realise I chose two lip products – but hey, a beauty blogger can never have too many lipsticks, right?) I received this in the shade Unique Pink and I love it. It’s super sheer and will be perfect for every day wear. This costs £12 from the Pixi website.

Crabtree & Evelyn Afternoon Tea and NEW Green Tea with Blackberry

IMG_4341.JPG
“Crabtree & Evelyn recognizes that the English ritual of drinking tea is as intrinsic today as when it first became popular centuries ago. Each tea bag carefully tagged and enveloped and is carefully crafted to offer a quality blend.”

I do love a good fruit tea and I haven’t tried any from this brand before, I can’t wait to give them a go. A box of 25 sachets costs £3.50.

Toni & Guy Glamour Volume Pumping Hair Whip

IMG_4342-0.JPG
“TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Volume Plumping Whip is the ultimate hair treat to give your locks all-day body and bounce from the roots. The non-sticky formulation lifts hair for glamorous, voluptuous volume without any fly-aways.”

This was an extra product in everyone’s box this month as part of YBD’s birthday celebration. I LOVE big hair so this is a perfect product for me, and I received a full-size version. It costs £7.19 and can be bought from Boots.

Hello Fresh Voucher

IMG_4343.JPG

I also received a £25 voucher for Hello Fresh – a company which sources recipes and ingredients for you to make delicious meals – and delivers them straight to you door. I am so excited to use this, and after having a browse on their website I can choose their ‘Classic Box’ which offers 3 meals for 2 people for £39, meaning i have to pay just £14 with my voucher. I will be ordering my box this week and I can’t wait to share with you what I receive and make!

I also received a Foam Puff for make-up application, which is a handy little extra. These can be bought at all most drug stores for around £1.99 for 3.

This month’s box comes to a total value £60.13, which is £53.18 more than I paid. Amazing value for some amazing products. I can’t wait to test all of these and share my reviews with you.

Review: September Pink Parcel

C: my second Pink Parcel arrived today, and as my August review went down so well I thought I would write a little review on this months as well (if you would like to see my previous box click here). As mentioned previously this is a subscription based around your time of the month, supplying your period essentials as well as some extra little treats to cheer you up. This costs £9.95 (including postage) for each box, but you can have a trial box for only £5.95. You just update your cycle dates and Pink Parcel will make sure you have everything you need, you even get to pick your tampon brand/type and pads are being made available soon! So anyway… over to the box itself.

photo 1(13)

As I mentioned last month, the packaging is super discreet so any of you that are embarrassed by your time of the month (you shouldn’t be!) can rest easily as no one will be able to tell what the postman has brought. Each box contains a “for now” bag which contains 5 tampons to put into your handbag (I found this very useful last month as I ALWAYS forget, I’m not very good at being a girl), along with two boxes “for later” which both contain 10 more tampons – so 25 in total! Once again these are nice to put in your bathroom cabinet as no one can tell whats in them.

photo 2(13)

On to the fun part – apologies for the bad photo, the tree outside/clouds did not make it easy for me.

Elizabeth Arden, Beautiful Colour Maximum Volume Mascara – Described as being able to dramatically thicken lashes as it separates and defines. It is also claimed as being smudge-proof and lasts all day. I was really excited to get this (I had cheated and looked at a spoiler already!) as it is a mascara I haven’t tried before and a well-loved brand. 10 points to Gryffindor Pink Parcel.

Witch Naturally Clear Anti-Blemish Redness Relief Moisturiser – apparently corrects redness and helps soothe skin. Clinique is my HG moisturiser provider but I am happy to try out others, especially those that apparently will reduce redness! My father-in-law apparently loves Witch products so they must be good!

Garnier 5 Sec Perfect Blur Smoothing Protecting Primer – another welcome addition to my box! I am currently using Benefits Porefessional primer and previously used a Mac one so it is great to try something that is more affordable/pink so will look nice in my make up bag.

As some other little extras I also got a Teapigs, tummy tonic peppermint teabag, perfect to reduce bloating during this troublesome time of month (I’ve got a food baby from eating too much carrot cake earlier, so hopefully this will help!). I also got another bar of Doisy & Dom’s maca, vanilla & cacao organic dark chocolate, and although I received the same bar last month I am pretty happy about it as it is AMAZING!. I’m still not entirely sure maca is, so please do enlighten me if you know! And last, but not least I got a little voucher for a free glass of bubbly at Cafe Rouge when purchasing any main meal – winner!

Overall I am really happy with my Pink Parcel this month! Unfortuately I will have to pause my subscription this month as my bathroom is over run with tampons (any chance we can just get sent the treats?!) but I really do love this subscription. An absolute bargain at £9.95! What do you guys thing? If you fancy signing up/having a peek at the website just click here #twolittleowls

End of an Era

A: Last Monday was a big day for me. I decided to cancel my Birchbox membership. I’ve been a bit disappointed with the boxes for the last couple of months, and Julys purple lipstick just pushed me over the edge. Purple lipstick does not go with my ginger hair and freckles.
But there was a plus side to this fatal decision – £20 of Birchbox points, which is basically like Christmas! I went straight to ordering some goodies and my delivery came today and here’s what I got.

20140806-181933-65973363.jpg
Firstly, the Benefit They’re Real Push Up Mascara. I don’t need to tell you about this because I’m sure you’ve heard about all the reviews, which is what made me choose to spend my Birchbox points on it. It does cost £18 though, I’m not sure whether I’d spend real money on it to be honest. But I haven’t tried it yet, if it’s amazing as everyone says I may just change my mind. It does look rather scary to use though…review to follow soon!

Next, the Natio Aromatherapy Rose and Chamomile Gentle Skin Toner. To be totally honest, I typed toner in the search bar on the Birchbox website and this was the first thing to catch my eye. I love anything with rose or chamomile in, and this has both so I added it to my basket straight away. I can’t wait to use this, and I’ll be reviewing it as soon as possible!

I’ve decided to replace my Birchbox subscription with the You Beauty Discovery Box. You can find out about it here, and hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow so I will be able to show you my first thoughts and tell you all about the subscription.

July Birchbox: Sun, Sea & Sand

20140713-171556-62156072.jpg

A: if you’re one of our lovely followers, you’ll probably have seen Chloe’s July Birchbox first impressions a few days ago (if not you can find it here). Although I got the same in my July box, here’s my first impressions…

WELEDA MILLET NOURISHING SHAMPOO. Full size is £8.95, sample value is £0.85.
I’m a massive fan of this brand and I’m hoping this is going to be as good as it’s smells! It’s is a pretty small sample and I’ll probably only get one use out of it, but I’m looking forward to reviewing it!

BALANCE ME WONDER EYE CREAM. Full size is £20, sample value is £9.33.
I don’t actually use an eye cream in my beauty regime, but I will be adding this in to see if there’s any major advantages I’m missing out on.

LAQA & CO SHEER LIP LUBE PENCIL IN MENATOUR. Full size is £14.00, sample value is £7.57.
Okay I am going to be totally honest about this…it’s a horrible colour. I’m really surprised I got sent this colour because I’ve filled in my surveys on the Birchbox website and I can’t speak for all gingers out there but for me, purple is 100% a no go for lipstick. Or anything actually. Plus it’s got a really weird mint scent?! I won’t ever use this. Unless I’m going to a fancy dress party as a crazy witch/Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

GILCHRIST & SOAMES ENGLISH SPA SEA KELP EXTRACT MINERAL BATH. Full size is £11.25, sample value is £1.90
This is a pretty well known brand, and it smells lovely. It’s a pretty good sample size too, and in a hot bath I’m sure it’s going to be perfect for relaxing.

WHISH THREE WISHES LAVENDER BODY BUTTER. Full size is £14.50, sample value is £2.13.
I was a little dubious about this, although I love lavender – it is a little old lady-ish. But it doesn’t really smell of lavender – it actually smells super yummy. I almost want to eat it. I’ll be popping this in my handbag to use as a hand cream, and it should last a while because it’s a good size!

ULTRADEX ORAL SPRAY. Full size which is worth £3.65.
This was my favourite product this month, which is a little weird as it’s classed as the lifestyle extra. I’ve already tested it and it tastes really good!

The total value of this months box is £25.43, and it cost £12.95 including p&p – this is really good value and Birchbox even included a sneak peek card of what’s going to be included in the August box which is exciting! I’m reasonably happy with this months box, but the theme of Sun, Sea & Sand was a little off as I can’t see how the products follow this.

What did you receive in your Birchbox this month? #twolittleowls
