Review: Instablur from The Body Shop

A: Now this is a product I’ve fallen in love with over and over again and it’s now an everyday staple for me. It’s not the cheapest of primers; priced at £14, but after having it for over a year (I just checked my emails for when I placed my last Body Shop order and am in shock at how well this has lasted me!), it is obviously well worth the pennies.

When they introduced this product last year, The Body Shop did a massive campaign about how this would be the only make up you wear, and that it perfects all skin. I watched the you tube ads and it did look impressive, so I was super excited when it arrived. The only other primer I had used is Porefessional, and I loved that so I was expecting good things but to be totally honest I was really put off by the texture of the product, it’s thick, gloopy, and plasticky. I was pretty sure that smearing this all over my face wouldn’t do it any good.

But I decided to give it a go, because of the amazing press coverage – surely it had to be good and I had spent fourteen hard earned pounds on it! Im so happy I persevered, the first time I used it I was super impressed. It blended my pores out, blurred my pesky blemishes and evened my skin tone, and mattified my skin too! I thought I was onto a winner, and carried on using it – waiting to see how it would effect my skin and if it would give me any crazy breakouts. I’m very prone to spots and acne, so was expecting the worst – but my skin stayed pretty much the same so I was very happy – and still am!

I use the tiniest amount when prepping my skin for make up, and after cleansing and toning (to avoid too much getting into my pores). And on good skin days – I just use this and clear powder as my base and its perfection! It doesn’t feel plasticky or gloopy once applied – it feels velvety and smooth and evens my skin so beautifully, plus it’s light and comfortable and lasts ALL day. And I mean all day – I put my make up on at 7am and rarely get home before 6pm/often go out straight after work and I don’t have to worry about touching up at all.

So all in all, if you’re looking for a primer you should go buy this. Cause it’s amazing! Click here to head to The Body Shop website if you want to know anymore/can’t wait to get your hands on one!

Review: Bourjois Java Rice Loose Powder

C: now I know, I am pretty late to the party with this one… but still anything this good is still worthy of a review on this blog, even if I am about a million years too late! I got this in my recent haul post (which you can see here if you fancy), and I basically picked it up because I liked the packaging. Which is ridiculous really, but I also always use a powder to set my make up so I figured it would definitely get some use! This powder is £9.99 from Boots here, but is also often on offer so keep an eye out for a bargain!

“Bourjois celebrates its 150th birthday by reinventing its best selling cult classic from 1879! The delicately scented feather-light powder boosts skins radiance, smoothes the complexion and sets make-up. One transparent shade suits all!”

First of all shall we just admire the packaging? I absolutely love that they used the original design for the packaging, all they did was upgrade from the original cardboard packaging to a more sturdy plastic pot which I definitely appreciate!

When you first open this it looks very pink… which is quite scary. But when applied there is no pink tinge! All you get is perfectly radiant looking, beautiful skin! It lasts all day, and manages to do an amazing job of keeping my shiny, oily skin in control whilst giving me a beautiful luminous complexion.

I don’t want to get too excited… but I think this might just be my new HG powder! Since trying it, I have also been looking at lots of reviews online (mainly cos I was originally scared I would have a pink face) and I can’t find any negative reviews! So it really must be good! Plus if you don’t like it, it would make a lovely addition to any dressing table, just for the packaging alone!

Has anyone else tried this? If so what did you think? #twolittleowls

Chloe’s Current Make up Base!

C: Since starting this blog, my love for make up/beauty products has got a little crazy… meaning I have a large collection of make up and items tend to get forgotten about. So recently I decided to have a little make up shake up and I have re fell in love with several products and changed my every day make up a little. I personally love seeing what base products people are using (mainly as an excuse to buy more), so thought I would share my current favourites with you!

Mac Matchmaster Foundation in 1.0 – this rarely changes as my favourite foundation, just because it is the one foundation I have found that completely matches my skin colour but doesn’t make me look like a ghost! It is true love and I will continue to repurchase this until I am old and grey or Mac stop making it. Whichever comes first.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer in Shade 1 – another old favourite that until recently I had forgotten about. I always like trying new concealers but in the end I always return to this. It literally covers everything and anything and lasts all day. You hardly need any product, so 3g of this lasts ages!

Soap & Glory Kick Ass Instant Retouch Pressed Powder – I won’t go on about this as I reviewed it here – but this goes perfectly with my Mac foundation. I buff it in with my RT Buffing Brush and together this duo makes my skin look flawless! It gets rid of any telltale foundation marks and keeps shine at bay all day.

So there are my make up base essentials! Any of you guys use these products? Or have any recommendations on what I should try next? #twolittleowls

FOTD: ginger2’s hen do!

C: I went out for the beautiful Nadine’s hen do on Friday night – it was amazing! Well… Strippers are gross but I had an amazing night with the ladies! So here is how I did my make up:

I went for a full base (mac of course) and a silver/grey smokey eye. Because I went all out with my eye make up I went for a pink tinted lip rather than using lipstick. Which was one of the no7 lip crayons – amazing chubby stuck dupe.

Base: Benefit Porefessional, Mac Matchmaster foundation, rimmel powder, Benefit Hoola Bronzer, the Balm Mary Lou Manizer highlighter and Mac blusher.

Eyes/Eyebrows: ELF eye brow kit, Korres Mineral eyeliner, Rimmel liquid eyeliner and Dior eye palette.

Lips: no7 lip crayon.

Mac BB cream: a review

A: hi everyone! I’m back from my holiday (photos will follow shortly, I’ve already posted some on Instagram so take a look) and I just had to give you a review on this MAC prep & prime bb cream. I bought it from the airport on my way to Jamaica from the duty free shop so it was a little cheaper than usual and cost £19.50 so it was a bargain.

I’ve never used a bb cream before but I thought I would give it a try because I knew I would get super freckly whilst I was in the sun, but would still want some make up coverage in the evening.

I am super impressed with this, it is lovely to apply (especially with the MAC brush which I obviously had to buy) and feels so light in my skin. It builds up really well but doesn’t clog your skin at all and feels like you have nothing on at all, whilst still letting my freckles show through (foundation covered freckles is not a good look) and it’s also a primer so it lasts all day. I travelled for 24 hours yesterday and my applied this before I left and it still looked pretty good when I got home today! Chloe also stole some today (she was basically waiting for me to get home because she was so desperate to see me) and she says she needs to buy some immediately.

I have also bought a modelco bb cream so I will posting a review on this soon, and Chloe has a no. 7 one too – so keep following!!
