Chloes August Empties 2015

C: another empties post for you this month! I have done an excellent job of using up products again for you this month and I am finally getting in control of my stash! So here is what I have been using up, and my mini reviews for you.

photo(47)

Soap & Glory Clean on Me Creamy Moisture Shower Gel – this was in one of my Christmas box sets which I receive basically every year now as everyone knows I love S&G stuff – I am not complaining by the way! I love this stuff, it smells nice, it makes you nice and clean, I’m not allergic and it helps keep your skin moisturised. What more could you want?

Repurchase? I have some more hiding away in my stash, but if I didn’t then yes, definitely!

The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel – another Christmas prezzie! I love stuff from the Body Shopm and although the formula was as excellent as ever this scent just wasn’t for me. I am not keen on citrus-y scents anyway, but this was just way too strong for me! Possibly due to my pregnancy nose, who knows (ha that rhymes) but I just wasn’t keen.

Repurchase? Not in this flavour, no!

Urban Veda Radiance Exfoliating Facial Polish – this is a Birchbox sample (which I will finally start getting through even though I cancelled my subscription ages ago!), and I actually really like this! It smells really fruity, and although it is an exfoliator it is really gentle on your skin. My skin felt very soft and clean after using this, and my make up applied beautifully.

Repurchase? Yes!

Aromatherapy Associates Hydrating Rose Face Mask – I got this sample free in a magazine, which is a great way to try out new products as on paper this sounds like exactly the product for me! Rose scented and hydrating? Perfect! This was not the case however, and this isn’t actually an empty I am just having to throw it away! As lovely as it smelt, this made my skin super itchy and I had to wash it off straight away! I tried it again and the same thing happened the second time too, so clearly this didn’t suit my sensitive skin!

Repurchase? No.

Whish Body Butter – oh hello Birchbox samples! Annie reviewed this here if you fancy reading her review, but on this particular product our opinions are quite different! We both absolutely loved the scent, but Annie found it too heavy (she prefers a body lotion to a butter) whereas I found it perfect for my super dry skin. I am actually super sad this has ran out, the scent is so beautiful I would wear it as perfume!

Repurchase? Yes! I will be repurchasing once I have used up some more of my stashed body butters!

Acqua Di Parma Tris Noble Sublime Perfume – never heard of this brand/perfume before which is the only reason I have bothered to include this! As this just isn’t the right scent for me! If you like floral perfumes though this would be perfect for you, it was just a little too mature for my sweetie/vanilla scented preference!

Repurchase? Nope!

Phew, a long empties post for you this month, but mostly a positive one! Have any of you guys tried these products? If so what did you think to them? #twolittleowls

Septembers Empties!

C: Jeeeez, I can’t actually believe that it is October? Crazy. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I say that at the end of every month… so I’ll just get on with my empties! I have once again done pretty well with using up my stash this month, so I am pretty proud of myself (/good excuse to buy more).

1. Nip + Fab 365 Body glow Fix. I haven’t actually finished this, but I won’t use it again this year and I know it will make my skin delightfully green or something next year if I leave it open and use it again next Summer! I really liked using this and it was brilliant at sorting out my dodgy tan lines!

Repurchase: yes! Next Summer though.

2. Aromatherapy Associates Renewing Rose Cleanser. I got a free sample of this in a Magazine at some point – free beauty items is pretty much the only reason I buy them! I really enjoyed using this as I love the scent of Roses, but I wouldn’t be able to say how much of a differences it made to my skin from this little sample. On the plus side I didn’t react to it, so I would say it was suitable for sensitive skin!

Repurchase: yes! Would love to try the full size version.

3. Gilchrist & Soames Shower Gel. I received this sample in one of my Birchboxes and although I like having little shower gels for going away this wasn’t for me. The scent was just a little too “mature” for me? If that makes sense? I like to smell like vanilla and sweets like the 12 year old I apparently am.

Repurchase: no, just due to personal preference.

4. Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre. Another Birchbox sample here! I really liked this, it provided the perfect base for my foundation and I miss it already. The only reason I haven’t re-bought it yet is because it isn’t quite moisturising enough for my dry/eczema-y skin so I wasn’t sure. I think if I used this in the morning and my Clinique in the evening though it would be perfect!

Repurchase: yes.

5. St Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Moisturiser. Another life saver for sorting out my farmers tan, I used this up before I started the Nip & Fab bottle and I really enjoyed using it. It was super moisturising and didn’t have the usual fake tan smell (which I normally hate) and it didn’t make me orange! Yay!

Repurchase: yes.

A very positive empties post today then apparently! Let me know what you guys have been using up or if you have tried any of these products (particularly if you have any Embryolisse tips please!) #twolittleowls

May Birchbox Review

A & C: we were super excited to receive our Birchbox’s today, and we both got the same goodies so we thought we should do a joint review.

Image

So firstly, the box is beautiful. The theme this month is the Great Outdoors, and the ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ print is really bright and colourful. The beauty guide this month is full of inspirational looks which use the products in the box so you can re-create them yourself. Perfect for Birchbox’s Share + Win competition to get involved in sharing pictures of how our samples help you enjoy the great outdoors. Chloe and I have some epic ideas for this so please follow our Instagram account else you will be missing out majorly!

So to the box contents…

1. Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil, sample size 3ml £2.13 (full size 55ml £39)

Annie thinks this smells lovely but Chloe thinks it smells like the stuff her mum used on her hair when she had nits…. anyway, we really like the fact that it’s dual use and can be used in the shower or the bath. We’ve used quite a few samples from this brand, and it is a high end product so we are both looking forward to using it (Chloe will just have to hold her nose).

2. Beauty Protector Protect & Shampoo Protect & Condition, sample sizes 30ml £1.86 each (full size 225ml £14 each)

Okay we both like the smell of this, first time ever. These are a Birchbox exclusive, and are a brand that appear a lot in Birchbox’s but this is the first time that both a shampoo and conditioner have been included. We were both happy about this because it gives you a chance to use both products to their full potential, however the size of the sample is pretty small and we both have quite a lot of hair so we will probably only get to use these twice and that’s if we are being careful.

3. Liz Earle Beauty Co. Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, sample size 30ml £3.98 (full size 100ml £13.25)

There’s been crazy amounts of hype about the Liz Earle brand, especially the Hot Cloth Cleansers so we were really excited to see this in the spoiler. This cult cleanser ‘leaves skin perfectly cleansed and prepped. The muslin cloth and polish ensure a beautiful glow’ so we are obviously super eager to use it. We will be reviewing this as soon as we have both used it as part of our routine so keep following to see what all fuss is about!

4. Soigne Nail Lacquer, full size £11 (yay!)

The most important thing about this is that the packaging is amazing. Like really amazing. It makes you feel like you’ve received a really high end product, and we all love that feeling. We both received the Persimmon colour which is an amazing deep orange (it matches Annie’s hair which is an added bonus). Both of us have ridiculous nail varnish collections, and this is a new brand so it is a perfect addition for us.

5. Benefit They’re Real Mascara, sample size 3g (full size 8.5g £19.50)

Chloe swears by this mascara, and reviewed it here a couple of months ago but it isn’t one that Annie’s used before. She actually bought some from the duty free on the plane home from her holiday yesterday because Chloe kept telling her how good it was, so we are both happy because we’ve now got enough mascara to last us forever, and it’s Benefit. Win.

So we both were really pleased with this months box, it contained a great mix of products (and we are always happy when we get a full size ginger nail varnish). The total value of the box is £27.88 which is really good considering it only cost £12.95 including postage and packing! If you are thinking of signing up please use this link (click here) and we will both get £5 worth of points to spend in the online shop. If you sign up before the end of the month you will also receive May’s box which will contain similar items to these!
