Chloe’s March 2015 Empties.

C: oh hallo March! This year is going crazy quick, but atleast I am sticking with one of my resolutions and have been using up some of my crazy beauty/skincare stash ready for my house move. I think I would need about 10 boxes just to empty the bathroom/dressing table cupboards! So here is this months empties:

photo-33

Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Base & Top Coat – personally I wasn’t that keen on this. It made a good base coat and protected my nails well but I wouldn’t say it made my nail polishes last any longer. In fact this is still half full, and as I haven’t used it in so long it has gone gloopy and horrid.

Repurchase? No.

The Body Shop Moringa Shower Gel – I received a few of these for Crimbo from one of my work colleagues, and I was most excited about using this one as I had not tried anything from this range before but knew it was quite popular. Obviously the formula was as lovely as all Body Shop shower gels but I personally thought it smelt like my nan… soz.

Repurchase? Not this flavour, no.

Lush Eau Roma Water Toner Water – I bought this after trying the Tea Tree Water toner from Lush, thinking that this might be better for my sensitive skin. I really enjoyed using this, and found that it did calm down my skin beautifully, but did not help with my blemishes. So I now use this in the morning to calm down any redness, and the Tea Tree Water in the evening to combat spots. Perfect combo.

Repurchase? Yes.

Gilchrist & Soames Mineral Bath – I received this in a Birchbox, and was never that excited about using it. I left it in my over night bag and ended up using it several times whilst at my parents – we just have a shower at our apartment. It was a lovely formula, but once again the scent just wasn’t for me. I prefer sweet, vanilla-ry scents.

Repurchase? no.

Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara – this was in the giant S&G box I got for Crimbo last year! Mental. I keep stuff for too long apparently. I really enjoyed using this, it took a lot of getting used too as the brush is quite big for my tiny squinty eyes, but once I got the hang of it I loved it. It really thickens lashes, is super black and lasts all day. It doesn’t quite trump my Benefit They’re Real Mascara but as a cheaper option this is perfect.

Repurchase? Yes, I would happily pick this up again.

So there we have my March empties! Have any of you guys tried any of these products before? What did you think of them? #twolittleowls

Review: Essie Crocadilly

IMG_5542
A: Chloe bought me this varnish for Christmas and this is the first time I’ve used it. To be honest, I wasn’t totally sure about the colour because it looks silver in the bottle and silver isn’t really a colour I usually wear. But when Chloe and I spent the afternoon drinking tea and painting our nails last weekend, I decided to give it a go. And then I realised why Chloe had chosen it for me.

Okay I realise it doesn’t look silver once it’s on; but this is because of the handy little magnet attached to the top of the bottle. The varnish is magnetic, and once you’ve done the usual buff, file, base coat and first coat of colour, and then add the second coat; you hold the magnet over the wet varnish for a few seconds. Once you take it away you can see the pattern it leaves, which is made up of tiny diamonds. This is the point where I understood the name behind the varnish – it looks like the skin of a crocodile!! The silvery black tones of the varnish separate from the green, leaving outlined diamond pattern or ‘crocodile skin’ effect.
I have used a Barry M magnetic varnish before, which doesn’t give as much of a definitive pattern as the Essie one and it is easy to use although does take a little bit of practice. The varnish also lasted a good few days without a top coat, but Essie are known for their high quality products. I would definitely recommend this product, and it was fun to use!

Have you used any magnetic varnishes? #twolittleowls

How To: Ombré Nails

C: so I love a bit of ombré/tie dye, and although I have always liked the ombré nail art I have seen, I have never given it a go before! Please bare in mind that this is my very first attempt, so although it isn’t perfect I wanted to share it with you guys so you can see how easy/not so easy it is! So here it is:

IMG_2100-1.JPG

So to do this, I followed a couple of super easy steps:
1. File, do a base coat. The usual stuff.
2. Paint your nails with your base colour. Usually the palest colour you are using! Allow to dry.
3. Apply your next colour to a make up sponge and start from about one third up your nail. Just do short dabbing motions. Then reapply your nail polish to the sponge and layer up the colour towards the tip of your nail.
4. Once happy with the ombré effect, apply a top coat and allow to dry!

I only used two colours for this, and the ombré effect isn’t super obvious. So I am guessing if you use a third, darker colour then it will be much more obvious!

Let me know what you think of my first attempt! #twolittleowls

Februarys Empties 2015

C: After a mixture of beauty related Christmas presents and January sales shopping, I decided it was finally time to sort through my stash. This has resulted in me throwing away several items because they have been opened too long, and in using up the many samples I have floating about from subscription boxes etc. All in all, this has resulted in a lot of empties this month! So here we go!

photo(35)

1. Lush Ultrabland Cleanser – one of my current skincare essentials! I won’t talk too much about this as we reviewed it here, but I absolutely loved it. If you have sensitive or problem skin then you need to check it out!

Repurchase? Yes once I have used up some of my stash!

2. Merumaya Iconic Youth Serum & Melting Cleansing Balm – two samples from one of my You Beauty boxes I believe. I only got one use out of each sample, so I cannot really comment on its skincare effects. However, both smelt amazing and I did not react badly to them (I have sensitive skin).

Repurchase? I shall definitely be doing a little research into the brand.

3. Yardley Uplifting Daisy Body Lotion – another You Beauty sample. I wasn’t that eager to try this out, and to me Yardley is an old person brand that my nan uses! However, I am happy to admit when I am wrong! This smelt amazing and did a super job of moisturising my stupidly dry skin.

Repurchase? Yes if I didn’t have about 20 body butters/lotions to use up first!

4. Mac Prep + Prime – another product we have previously reviewed here

Repurchase? Hella yeah.

5. Rimmel Nail Polish 500 Disco Ball – I bloody love this nail polish but it has gone gloopy. I have had it for well over two years though so I cannot complain! It is super glittery, easy to apply (but not remove unfortunately) and lasts a long time. Perfect.

Repurchase? If they still do it, I would happily repurchase.

6. Avon Glimmerstick Eye Liner in Blackened Night – I bought this ages ago and then kind of forgot about it, but now I love these! They aren’t too glittery so you can get away with wearing them every day, they are super black and easy to apply. For the price you can’t complain!

Repurchase? I already have another!

7. Aromatherapy Associates Revive Body Gel – now I received this in my first Birchbox, and even though I love the smell I still don’t understand what the point of it is. Like seriously, it says apply to problem areas such as thighs, feet etc but doesn’t actually say what for. So now its going in the bin. So if anyone knows what its for please do tell me!

Repurchase? Nah!

Well, that was a long empties post today! What do you think to the products I have mentioned? Have you tried any of them? Let us know! #twolittleowls

Review: Oriflame Nail Polish

C: We were lucky enough to get sent three different nail polishes in such beautiful colours from Oriflame to review for you lovely readers. So… I thought I would also do a few nail looks with them to share with you at the same time (Annie posted about one she had created here)! Both are super simple and easy to recreate – trust me, I am no expert!

photo-23

Look at these amazing colours! I have “swatched” (do you say that for nail polishes?!) them above for you, so you can see the beautiful colours after one and two coats. Before I get on to the looks I created with these bad boys, I just wanted to mention how lovely they are to use. The brushes are a perfect fit for your nail, so you have full coverage in two swipes. After two coats the colour is completely opaque and even without a top coat it lasts a good 3 days without major chipping. What more could you want for just £7 (they are currently available here). There colours we received are: Ruby Rouge, Tiramisu and Breeze Blue.

 photo 2-13

To create this look, I started by painting my nails (after filing, base coat, the usual business) with the gorgeous Tiramisu shade and allowing it to dry. I then applied a straight nail sticker for doing a french mani, which you can buy from ebay for like 50p and painted the Ruby Rouge colour on the rest of the nail. Once it has dried, peel off the sticker carefully (else all your base colour comes of with it) and you are left with this simple but effective nail design!

photo 2-14

I won’t patronise you all by telling you how to do this… I am sure you are well aware! All you need is to buy a dotting tool and paint your accent nail a different colour and use the other shade to apply the dots. The Tiramisu & Breeze Blue shades go so well together, I loved having this combo on my nails.

What do you guys think of these nail polishes and looks? #twolittleowls

Chloe’s Second Christmas Haul Post

C: As I mentioned in my previous Christmas haul post (which you can see here) I was very lucky this year and received so many goodies I have split it into two posts! This post will be the beauty items I received this year. Now I am aware I got super spoilt so once again this is not a form of bragging, I just have a very large family and we all enjoy buying each other lots of presents so we all end up with lots of goodies!

Nail Stuff

photo 1(21)

Soap & Glory Nail Call Gift Set – my little bro got me this badboy! I love S&G and I love painting my nails so it was a good bet! The gloves freak me out a bit, but I will give them a go and report back. I have also never used S&G nail polish before so I am excited to try those!

Studio London Nail Polishes – these were from my sister and were all individual packaged in mini crackers! What a great idea!

Models Own Nail Polishes – these were from L’s Auntie! They are Hyper Gel, gel effect polishes which I am guessing means they are super shiny and hopefully long lasting! Once I have had a chance to try them out I will post a review.

Skincare Gift Sets

photo 2(20)

S &G: The Soapremes, All the Right Smoothes & Soap for the Best Sets – As you can see my family (and L) are aware of my love for S&G! I think I have enough bath stuff here to last me until next Christmas!

Lush Sets: Best Wishes & Secret Santa – Secret Santa contains a Father Christmas bath bomb which I have never tried before and Honey I Washed the Kids soap – which is one of my favourites! The Best Wishes box contains a Cinders and a So White bath bomb and a Hot Toddy shower gel. I got lots of Lush stuff as when we move into our new house (hopefully March!) I will finally have a bath! Don’t worry… I do wash, we just only have a shower in our apartment so it will be nice to have a nice relaxing bath again.

Beauticology Set – I have seen a lot from this brand but never tried anything from it myself. It contains some amazingly scented shower gels, body butters and a shower puff! Can’t wait to try them all!

Random (but fun) bath stuff

photo 3(12)

Okay so the most exciting thing here (other than the Hello Kitty body spray obvs) is the Winter Spice Sugar Scrub which L’s mum made me! It looks/smells amazing and I can’t wait to try it. She will be writing you a nice post soon on how she made it so you can all have a go!

Make Up

photo 4(8)

Clinique Party Lips & Nails Set – I love Clinique chubby sticks for a moisturising hint of colour so I was excited to receive this from my Aunties! It also contains to nail polishes – and I have never tried any Clinique ones before. I shall be posting a review of this soon!

Sleek Highlighting Palette – from Annie! She was so excited to give me this and I can see why! I have taken photos of this for a review, but just to warn you… Annie is such a good friend/liked this so much that she stuck her fingers in to try it before giving it to me! If it wasn’t funny I would tell her off.

MAC Rebel Lipstick & Woodwinked Eyeshadow – I gave out a little scream of excitement when I opened this! So so so so excited to own these! I feel like these are bblogger staples that I needed to own and I bloody love them. Reviews/swatches coming soon!

Fearne Made You Look – this contains 3 beautiful eyeshadows, a glitter pot and an eyeshadow base stick. It truly is beautiful and I would recommend getting your hands on it if it is still available from Boots (or even better is in the sale!) I shall be posting a look I made with this soon!

So there we have it… the longest Christmas haul ever! Let me know what you think, and please comment links to your Christmas hauls as I love reading them! #twolittleowlsblog

Christmas Nails

A: It’s only 8 sleeps to go until Santa comes!!!! In case you hadn’t already guessed, we are both so super excited for Christmas. And Christmas nails are always a must. Chloe posted about hers here, and so I thought it was time to show you mine.

 photo 3

I used three polishes, The Body Shop clear as a base/top coat, the Colour Club Gala’s Gems nail polish, and the Barry M Limited Edition silver glitter polish (probably the best glitter polish in the world). I also used some cute silver snowflakes which I bought off eBay last year for a couple of pounds.

After the usual nail prep, I used the base coat and then applied the blue polish as a colour base (this only takes one coat – not sure if all of Colour Club’s polishes are this good but this one is super pigmented). After this was dry, I used the snowflake stickers on my little finger and middle finger nails. I then added the Barry M glitter to my middle finger nail. I then added my top coat.

I’ve included a close up of the glitter, to show you how pretty it really is. This is amazingly just one coat!! There are other companies which do a similar polish but because this one was  a Limited Edition last year, it isn’t available anymore 😦

We’d love to see some of your Christmassy nails! #twolittleowlsblog
