Advent Calendar Wishlist

A: With the weather taking a sudden Autumnal turn, we are all super excited about cosy knitwear, lovely candles, hot chocolates with marshmallows and warm nights in front of the fire, so to help you even more to get into the spirit I thought you’d like to see a few favourites of mine from the amazing advent calendars on offer this year.

Benefit Cosmetics Candy-Coated Countdown – £60

This is a very strong contender, adored by beauty bloggers everywhere. I have only ever tried a few Benefit products so I would love to have this. It’s packed with 24 mini-versions of their Bestsellers, from Porefessional to ChaChatint and High Beam to They’re Real. Theyre also some super cute accessories tucked away behind the doors too. Unfortunately, I think this may be a little out of my budget but a girl can always dream. Available at www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk from October 16th.

Liberty – £149

Okay, I know this is way beyond most peoples budges – myself included (sigh!) but I couldn’t not include it. The inside is adorned with the a beautiful Liberty print and each draw includes a high-end beauty product, from companies such as Nars, Dermalogica, Weleda and Laura Mercier. If you’re lucky enough to buy this, it’s available on the Liberty website, and instore from November.

Selfridges Enchanted Spells – £85

At a slightly (!) more reasonable price is the calendar from Selfridges. This is packed with high-end products and is totally worth the month. Products from Kiehl’s, Urban Decay, Lancome and Yves Saint Laurent. The perfect way to spend December would be opening one of these little doors of goodness every morning. Available now on their website – just click here!

YOU Beauty Advent Calendar – £49.95

I’ve saved this one till last because I’m pretty sure it’s my favourite (although I won’t be buying it, it’s still out of my price range no matter how beautiful it is). You Beauty claim this is worth £240 – and I believe them. Brands such as Essie, Aromatherapy Associates, Liz Earle and Sisley have been included – and that’s just a few! Click here to see the full run down of what’s included. I really like that they have listed all of the products for you to see before you buy; if you are paying this much for an Advent Calendar it’s nice to know that it’s worth the money – and this certainly is. It’s available now, but I have a feeling it will sell out quickly!

Foodie Friday: Hello Fresh’s Mexican “Dirty Rice” with Chicken and Chorizo

C: We posted last week about our Hello Fresh boxes that we recently received (you can see the post here) and I have been testing out some of the amazing recipes they sent me!

Here’s the first recipe:

20141017-095118.jpg

And here is my attempt!

20141017-095200.jpg

As you can see I did a pretty good job! The recipe card was super easy to follow, meaning I got a professional looking meal that was easy and quick to make. It was super tasty, I’m not normally a big fan of rice so I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this.

The herbs and spices provided made this so yummy that the boyfriend ate 3 bowls full – a clear sign that tea was a success! I really enjoyed making (and eating) this, so the recipe card has been kept so I can do it again!

I loved my first Hello Fresh experience as it means you can try something you wouldn’t normally make, and although a little pricey you get to keep the recipes to do again! Perfect! Click here to head to the Hello Fresh website – they update their recipes weekly so there’s always something new to try!

What do you guys think of this? #twolittleowlsblog

Come Dine with Me?

A: So this is too embarrassing/funny/horrendous/amazing not to tell you all about.

Last year, I did the most ridiculous thing of my life, and if you’ve read the title you should be able to guess what it was. I applied for Come Dine With Me because when all of my family and friends (I use the term loosely – someone should have stopped me from making a complete idiot out of myself, especially YOU Chloe) saw they were looking for hosts in our local area, they all encouraged me to apply. I never thought I’d get on but by some miraculous form of a miracle/worst thing to ever happen to me, I got through to appear on the show and host. It aired for the first time on Monday 10th October and I have only just been able to watch it for fear of total embarrassment. I was the first host too – so it was super scary.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Come Dine With Me (where have you been?!), it’s a television programme where 5 strangers hold dinner parties for each other over the course of a week and mark each night out of 10. Pretty mental that I’ve now been on tv.

If you want to see me looking like a total weirdo, I’ve included a link to the 4oD website where you can watch the episodes online – just click here. Please be aware that I only had about 10 minutes to get ready every day so there is some serious splinge action going on.

Have fun!! #twolittleowls

You Beauty Discovery Box October Edition

A: This is a beauty box that I find myself unable to unsubscribe from. I’ve had it for the last two months now (you can see September’s here), and you get between four and five products each month, two of which you choose from a selection which the team at You Beauty have put together. The price of the box is £6.95 – including postage! So here is what I got this month, the first two items being the ‘extras’, the second two being my choices.

Gold Collagen Forte

“GOLD COLLAGEN® Forte is a new anti-ageing liquid beauty supplement; it contains a unique, potent blend of antioxidants (Q10, acai berry, pomegranate, lycopene, L-Carnosine and resveratrol) to reduce the oxidative stress associated with ageing in your 40’s.”

Okay this is weird. I actually opened this and smelt it before I read what it was, and I assumed it was a lotion because of it’s super sweet scent. Then I read that you drink it. WHAT?! This is a daily supplement, and it is recommended that you drink one bottle a day to support healthy looking skin, hair and nails. It’s also supposed to hydrate your skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and protect against oxidative damage (whatever that is). The flavour is Peach and Lychee, and I love anything that smells or tastes of peach but this really smells awful to me. The sweet, almost clinical smell makes me gag. There is no way I can imagine drinking this, and the retail price is £40 for a ten-day package. Not particularly cheap, but if it does what it says on the tin it’s probably worth it. It is aimed at the 40+ age group. Not quite there yet. Sorry You Beauty, this is not for me.

Cowshed Perfecting Night Serum

“Cowshed Anti-Ageing Perfecting Night Serum is the ultimate all-in-one anti-ageing treatment for busy women with busy lives. The innovative serum-in-oil hybrid is bursting with natural active ingredients and essential oils that work wonders on your skin while you sleep, so that you can wake up to a firmer, brighter and smoother complexion. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!”

This is a product I am much happier with. I’ve seen a lot of Cowshed products about and have been wanting to try them out for a while. I am at the age (argh) where I should start to use anti-ageing products, so hopefully this will encourage me. Prevention is better than cure, as they say. It contains natural ingredients, such as Rosehip oil and Evening Primrose oil for cell regeneration and Jojoba oil with skin-soothing minerals such as zinc and vitamins B and E. Plus the brand was founded in an actual cowshed. Amazing. It does come in a little pricey though, at £48, but You Beauty are offering a code to receive a Skin Care Starter Kit with every purchase from the Cowshed website (click here). I received a sample size version of this, and although it is a little small I will be letting you know what I think.

Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Tease

“Illamasque Glamore Lipsticks are colour intense lipsticks with a long lasting satin finish. They offer ultimate comfort and smooth application without compromising on colour. Long lasting with intense pigment payoff, these lipsticks ooze both glamour and sophistication.”

photo 2

I was SO excited when I saw these lipsticks were available and headed online as soon as I could to add this to my box! I’ve never had a product from this company before, but I was expecting good things. The packaging really is lovely, super sophisticated and posh (plus it makes a lovely clicking sound when you put the lid on, does anyone else get an insane amount of satisfaction from that?!). But I am disappointed with the colour. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nude lipstick – most of my collection is made up of nudes but because of it’s amazing colour pigmentation, this applies like a concealer. It’s really strange! I’m hoping I can make it work for me though because the consistency is perfect, it applies beautifully – so keep you eyes out for a make-up look including this! This retails at £18.50 – so more than double the price I paid for my whole box.

Wild About Beauty Power Eyeshadow in Alana

“These eyeshadows are enriched with skin conditioning Aloe Vera & Vitamins E & C, available in an array of wearable shades, ideal for creating a multitude of looks. Apply to eyelids with an eyeshadow brush. If you’re looking for a Wild About Beauty brush, the brand recommends the Tapered Eyesahdow Brush.”

photo 1

I received a Wild About Beauty lipstick in last month’s box and loved it, so when I saw this I know I had to go for it. Now, I’m not a massive eyeshadow fan. I just can’t get it to look right on me, but I do like to use it as an eyeliner. This colour however is so lovely that I am going to try and branch out and wear it in a smokey eye look (wish me luck!!). It really is highly pigmented, and the little bee is so super cute. I find it really handy that it has a little mirror too! These retail at £13.

Although I was a little disappointed with some of the products in this month’s box, I am going to try and make them work for me (not the Collagen stuff though…). I will persevere with the lipstick and the eyeshadow, and try to do a make-up look using them both, so keep following! The total value of this box is approximately £36 – a real bargain considering I paid just £6.95. If I’ve tempted you, you can head to the You Beauty Discovery Website by clicking here.

Have you tried this beauty box? What do you think? #twolittleowls

October’s Pink Parcel

C: okay okay I know I said last month I didn’t need another Pink parcel…  but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want one?! I have had such a lovely experience with Pink Parcel, they are always on time, they always send you a nice email to let you know your box is on its way. They are just lovely. If you would like to see my previous Pink Parcels then click here and here, but lets get on to this months box!

photo 1-9

As usual you get a little bag of 5 tampons that says “for now” to put in your handbag and two boxes “for later” which both contain 10 tampons of your choice. Saving you from going out and buying your monthly essentials as well as containing a box of treats “for you”. This is the exciting part, and here is what I received this month:

photo 2-10

The first thing I noticed was the Loreal Revitalist Multi-active Daily Moisturiser that targets the 10 signs of ageing. This is a full size, 50ml bottle that retails for £15.99 – covering the cost of your box without even including those essentials. Amazing value and a product I am super excited to try out, prevention is better than a cure and all that.

Being a nail varnish collector (hoarder) I then noticed the OPI nail polish in “girl colour”. Not something I would normally go for, but beautiful all the same. It is a very pale glittery pink which I have already tried out as a topcoat over white… it looks amazing! Very Christmassy as it gives the perfect snow effect. Another amazing edition!

Included was also a Kubiss Lip Gloss, a brand I have never heard of before. I do not normally wear lip glosses, just because I prefer lipstick but I like the colour of this so I am looking forward to trying it out. I also received a sample of Yardley’s Uplifting Daisy body lotion which I can’t wait to try as well as the usual tea-pigs tummy tonic and a chocolate bar from Daisy & Dom. If you haven’t tried their chocolate  before then you need to seriously get some – it’s amazing!

So what did you guys think of this months Pink Parcel? I loved it as usual, amazing value for money and their customer service was spot on as usual. We have some exciting news coming your way about Pink Parcels future subscription services, so make sure you follow us so you can keep up to date! Foodie Friday: Hello Fresh!

A & C: Welcome to another Foodie Friday! This week we’ve decided to share a new discovery with you; an amazing company called Hello Fresh. We both received vouchers for Hello Fresh in our You Beauty Discovery boxes last month and they were for a whopping £25 – which is super generous! We hadn’t actually heard of the company before, and just in case you haven’t either here’s a bit of a back story.

Hello Fresh was set up by Patrick, who had a dream of changing the way the nation eats. He spends time prepping new recipes each week, sources the best ingredients and puts them together for his customers – who can hop onto the website, order a box of their choice and have it delivered straight to their door. No stressful shopping queues, no time wasted and easy recipes to follow with literally everything you need. There are three boxes to choose from; the Classic box, the Veggie box and the Family box. In each box, you get a choice of how many meals you need; 3 meals per week for 2 persons, 3 meals per week for 4 persons or 5 meals per week for 2 persons. The starting price for these boxes is £42, which works out to be £7 per person per meal. A bargain for such yummy food delivered direct to your door.

Because our vouchers were for £25, this meant that we got all of this for just £17 – ah-mazing! We’ve decided to break this down into a few posts, because there’s just too much info and photos for one, so in today’s post we will show you what we received in our boxes with a run down of each recipe, and over the next few weeks we will show you the delicious food we made and let you know how successful the recipes were. We both cook every day, and love cooking – but it can become a chore so these boxes are such a treat for us – they really take the stress out of meal-times, planning your food, shopping for food, working out how to cook it, checking you have the ingredients etc. So here’s what we received!

A:

imageimage (2) image (3)photo 2 (1)

The boxes are absolutely jam packed with goodies. I couldn’t quite believe the amount of food that amount been delivered to be honest, and it even came with it’s own cooler bag which is super re-usable (my boyfriend has been taking his pack-up to work in it!). The cooler bag had the meat; chicken, beef and salmon in it, as well as other ingredients that needed to be kept cool. I even got little sachets of tomato ketchup and mustard, as well as a sachet of peppermint tea leaves – so cute!

C: I ordered my box a week after Annie, so I received different recipes to try.

photo-21

First up… look how full of food the boxes are! I love anything in miniature (I have a problem) so I loved the little mini pots of herbs etc – the boyfriend isn’t so happy as I have kept them for when I will obviously need them again. Hope you enjoy having a look through the recipe cards I received:

We are so excited to get started with these and can’t wait to show you our finished recipes! Keep following Foodie Friday’s to see how they turn out!

A Review: Autumn Nails ft. Oriflame

A: We had the pleasure of meeting the lovely members of the Oriflame team at the #bloggersfestival back in September and they had such an amazing range of their make-up with them. Oriflame was established in 1967 – so they know a thing or two about the beauty world. Their nail polish collection ‘The ONE Long Wear Polish’ really caught our attention, from the amazing choice of colours to the beautiful packaging – and we were lucky enough to be sent some samples to try*!

photo 1

Because the weather has suddenly turned very Autumnal, whilst sitting in front of a roaring fire with a hot chocolate in my pj’s, it only felt right to prep my nails for the cold days ahead – and this gorgeous Ruby Rouge is perfect. The photos really don’t do this polish justice, but it is really hard to pick up it’s glossy berry tones with a picture – you will have to trust me on this one!

photo 4 (1)

Firstly, the pigmentation is amazing. This was after two coats, but the second coat only makes it darker – if you prefer the lighter ‘pinkish’ colour then one coat is opaque enough.  Application is super super easy. The brushes are such a lovely shape and fit to the shape of your nail bed really well. I’ve tried a lot of other polishes which advertise a brush which is the shape of your nail – but these are the best by far.

photo 1 (1)

photo 2 photo 3 photo 3 (1)

I also used some cute gems which we were sent from Born Pretty Store (we’ve mentioned them before on our blog here – they have an amazing range of nail art accessories!). These may be better and stand out more on a paler nail but I love them so much because of their iridescent sparkliness – they will be perfect for Halloween/Christmas nails! We will be featuring these again very soon, but in the mean time you can find the Born Pretty Store here.

We will be reviewing the other colours – Tiramisu and Breeze Blue, very soon so keep following! Click here to see Oriflame’s website – they really do have a beautiful range of products, and you can view their catalogue online too!

What are you perfect Autumn nails? #twolittleowls
